View Full Version : Northern FL Division 3?
Is there any chance of a division three next year?
We had a competitive game against Panton Hill last week and even though we still lost it was so much better than losing by 20 goals or more. It would only benefit the teams near the bottom of the ladder to have a chance of winning EVERY week. Surely the financial and social benfits are obvious.
Other leagues, such as the Eastern, are growing and becoming stronger while the old Diamond Valley is shrinking. I know some of the bigger clubs will say "that's great, I hope Kinglake go aswell" but that does nothing for the long term future of the league.
The new committee, through their actions (or inactions) has done virtually nothing to encourage Heidelberg or any other team thinking of leaving to stay next season.
Anyone got any constructive solutions or ideas?
P.s. please try to refrain from just abusing Kinglake on this thread, I know we struggle and 'no' we don't know how to put the scores in (lol)

I can see 1 of 2 things happening next year. If we have 24 clubs in the NFL next year there will be 3 divisons with 8 clubs in each. If we have less than 24 clubs they will promote 2 clubs to divison 1 to even out the number of clubs between the 2 divisons. Personally I'd prefer the 1st option but they need at least 24 clubs for it to happen properly.

Lakers i think you are the smartest person to come out of the lake, i agree wholeheartedly with what you have had to say although i feel if a certain ding dong was in the 1s last week we might have just got up.

OMG - Someone from Kinglake with a computer !
I'm going to make some constructive critisisms about your club, whether you take them on board or not........
Does Kinglake know what a committee is and what it means ? It's a group of people who offer their committment of service to the club to ensure that it runs smoothly & effectively for not only the club & it's supporters, but also for visiting opposition teams & their supporters.
I know you guys only have 3 people on your committee and I commend them for taking on the role of about 10 people, but you guys need more
people putting their hands up to assist. It's a shambles.
If you want to know how to login the results after each home game, you need to have a computer. Does Kinglake have one ? I'd suggest not.
Get one or we'll continually mock you.
The results are entered in through the www.nrl.org.au (http://www.nrl.org.au) website
Some of your supporters are boofheads and they need to pull their heads in. I think they are more embarrassing for your club with their attitudes towards the opposition rather than supportive towards your own team.
Your club rooms are a disgrace. I walked in there early June and was
not impressed with how grubby your carpet was and filthy your toilet was.
Present your rooms a little better , take a leaf out of Heidelberg FC to see how they present.
Now I finished with my views of how to start running a club, this may just infact attract some outside players to your club who may get you maybe 1 or 2 wins, if in fact there was a 3rd division.
If you don't change the current way you do things, Kinglake would
not win a game in 3rd division, and how demorolising would that be
if you were a player. I just hope you guys actually survive and retain
your players, as if I was a player, I would consider going elsewhere as
losing aint much fun.
That's my view, take it or leave it

Tank, I think that your opinion's about Kinglake are quite ignorant, because they have the unique problem of being a country club playing in a suburban competition.
Kinglake, like most clubs have trouble finding enough people to run the club properly, which sadly does lead to the situation with the lack of scores coming from their home games.
Surely, you can't compare Heidelberg with Kinglake, because unlike the Lakers, they have the money men and the council clout in order to get the facilities they need, and sadly because of Kinglake's lowly stature in the eyes of some, they won't get any assistance, even though they need it a lot more than the likes of Heidelberg.
Tank, do you really think that what you said here, is anything new to those who actually run a club, of course they would have considered and tried to do all of those things you suggested, but if you don't have the man power to do these things, they will always be a pipe dream.
And if you have any idea about trying to run a struggling club, with little to no support, where survival is the most important factor, then your lame arse opinions carry no weight.

And back to the original thread, of course the NFL should have a three division set up of 8 teams each (provided that Reservoir & Fawkner Park reform), because ultimately you have the give the lowly clubs hope for the future, and under the current set-up, the NFL offers none.
I have an interest in both Mernda & Panton Hill, and anything that would give both clubs a realistic chance in playing in finals every year, is something that I will support.

Lake, it would seem there will be a third div next year. Good idea I think.
I'm inerested to know about your list. How many. Ages etc. How many members in your club. How many sponsors. Who are they.
Sounds like your club needs some cash flow. There's some serious cashed-up people up your way.

Firstly, these are not lame arse opinions. They are constructive critisisms.
My comparisons to Heidelberg Football Club are not motivated by money men or council clout. It was about the presentation of the rooms and how uninviting they were - suggest you go back and read the thread.
Maybe if some of those load mouth bogans who continually abuse the
opposition get off their arses and actually supported the club as volunteers, things might look up for Kinglake.....
But hey, just keep doing what your doing as it's obviously working - not !
Tank the reason behind this thread was to float the idea of a division 3, not to abuse other clubs. Yes, Kinglake is a struggling club, yes, our facilities aren't great, yes, we need more people to help, no, we will not give up.
Thanks Wayde, you made all the rebuttals necessary.
I was speaking to a well connected friend from Hurstbridge on the weekend who said that they had had a run in with the NFL and were told that the NFL was looking to merge with the Essendon FL. The idea was both would look to cull some 'weaker' clubs and the leagues would combine into 3 divisions.
Any truth to this rumour?
good thread this one.. what would people think if the 2 bottom sides from div 1 got relegated leaving it as 8. then have div 2 as 8? then the remaining numbers in div 3 or there abouts in regards to the 3 divisions and team allocations. the two bottom sides, espeically epping arent very competitive.. just a suggestion what do others think?

3 Divs the way to go. Bigger is better. Will provide numerous opportunities amongst the clubs in the 3 Divs.
At the end of the season:
Bottom 2 teams from Div 1 to Div 2;
Top 2 teams from Div 2 to Div 1; and
Top 2 teams from Div 3 to Div 2.

yep great idea for 3 divisions, cant see it happening at the end of this year tho! imagine the uproar if the second bottom side gets told at the end of the year they are suddenly in division 2 now. my guess would be they would have to make it known to all teams at the start of next season that at the end of the year the bottom 2 sides will be relegated!
on the subject of rooms tho, heidelberg dont exactly make it inviting for opposition teams by putting them in a shack out in the sticks no where near the ground.......

It would be a storm in a tea-cup. They'd get over it and get on with it.

p.s. While the rooms may not be the best the're certainly not the worst.
Div 3 is a must.
Kinglake cannot keep getting belted by 20+ goals everyweek and expect to get sponsors or players rocking up to get on board.
As bad as Kinglake are on the field they are for most part a good bunch of blokes off it.
If it takes div 3 for them to get a few wins lets hope it happens

Division 1 needs to have 10 teams
With 24 teams it would have to be a 10/8/6 split.
With 25 team it could either be a 10/8/7
With 26 team it could either be a 10/8/8 or a 10/10/6
A division 3 would have Kinglake, Wallan, Panton Hill, and Heidelberg West,
And then between 2 and 4 of Hurstbridge, Mernda, Reservoir and Fawkner Park
On the Merger with EDFL
the NFL has 24 clubs
the EDFL has 24 clubs
add fawnker and Rese thats 50 which would make 5 divisions of 10 clubs.

surely fawkner park would start off in div 3.. and reservoir although not a bad team before going into recess should probably start in div 3 also.
could clubs like craigieburn, warrandyte maybe, sides around the outer fringes of the nfl, be forced to move into the nfl to ensure a stronger competition now that the nfl is basically run by afl victoria? bring back the old research and fairfield football clubs i reckon!
not a bad site this in regards to old clubs from the northern area, interesting to see how they got teams together.. look up the whittlesea district football league, panton hill and diamond valley leagues and others from this area, shows that suberbs such as doreen, st andrews, donnybrook, yan yean, kangaroo ground, arthurs creek and more had sides..? http://www.footypedia.com/LST00029.HTM

Fawnker and Reservoir would both go into a 3rd division ahead of Mernda and Hurstbridge but if they don't get enough players they won't be playing next year.
Templestoe and Warrandyte were both founding members of the DVFL.
They are both struggling at the bottom of division 3 in the EFL. One of will most likely relegated to division 4, they might consider NFL division 3 better than EFL division 4.
In the ammo's Banyule are in the middle of D2, Ivanhoe are near the top of D3, Eltham is top of D4. Not sure if any of them would leave the VAFA for the NFL.
Research do have a strong Junior club but their affilated with Lower Plenty. If were to field a team what affect what would that have on Lower Plenty?
Would any of Farifield, Doreen, St Andrews, Donnybrook, Yan Yean, Kangaroo Ground or Arthurs Creek be able to get the 50 odd players necassary to field two teams every week? And do they have a suitable ground to use?

good points you make here.. these struggling div 3 sides of the EFL that are around the NFL border could quite possibly make the move and join in a possible NFL div 3.. most likely not as strong as the EFL div 3.
the ammos clubs uve mentioned also in the northern region could foresee a future in the NFL, i dont see why not, rumour has the ammos are taking over the southern football league, so why not disband these northern clubs to the NFL, they have enough clubs as it is. if these teams were abit uncertain whether they wanted to play div 3 NFL in an ordinary standard, then for one year to ensure that clubs are playin in appropriate divisions offer 4 round "grading games".
Fairfield would have fairfield park where its now a soccer/cricket club and would struggle to field teams due to Parkside and its reason for going into recess(money). most of the clubs listed have grounds but whether they are suitable for senior football is another question... its just hard to believe that these suburbs, in the 50s and 60s fielded teams with the lesser populated areas compared to what it is now, hence the point i make that i dont see why not these clubs could start up in the future in areas where development is taking place such as doreen. a suggestion valid i believe?

yeah u would think doreen would be a good option for a new team, or the Plenty Football Club!! they have a ground to use and i reckon they could find enough players to make a few teams!!

I think you will find that Mernda is located next to Doreen.
If anything, Mernda would probably relocate there

yeah doreen have a ground n all no rooms from memory. plenty football club wuld be a good option as u say with the ground and all and in an area thats developing i dont see why not. all in all wuld be great to see clubs be revived and have a 3rd division
I believe the problem with the div 3 idea was that div 2 sides didn't want to just be told you will be in div 3 next year, because you finished in the bottom 8 or so.
1 year would not be enough warning for this to happen.
Give all clubs a 2 year warning, set up a plan, clubs that cant set a structure and improve to avoid relegation to a 3rd div will be relegated, obviously they cant match it in div 2. It is very hard to build a club in 1 year, generally a 3 year plan should see a club move near the top of a ladder without spending plenty of coin on outsiders.
As for the kinglake issue yes it will stop them getting belted by the top div 2 sides but will it help them win more games against sides they are already playing? maybe not but atleast they may be more competative therefore a little more confidence. Do they have a junior affiliate.
