Minson the racehorse to make his comeback this Saturday is apparently over his 'back' issues and has a new trainer who is none other than David Hayes. So, find those pennies and place a few dollars on him.

Hopefully our Minson the footballer is close to making his comeback from injury and perhaps make it into the Bulldog side soon.

Here is the article on Minson's namesake....

Minson back in the ruck! It’s a headline Western Bulldogs supporters would like to read in an AFL match preview, but for ten team supporters it will be a reality when their racehorse Minson returns to racing’s big league at Caulfield on Saturday.

The racehorse named after Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson will make his comeback in the $100,750 weight-for-age Taralye Foundation Bletchingly Stakes (1200m.). But footballer Will Minson is still sidelined with a hamstring injury and will not line-up for the Western Bulldogs.

Premiership trainer David Hayes, the new “coach” for Minson, is hopeful the five-year-old gelding has recovered from a back injury that caused him to lose form in five starts from mid-August last year to mid-February this year.

“Minson had back issues when I took over his training in the autumn and I gave him a couple of months off to recover,” Hayes said. “He has been in work for 10 weeks and the signs are good that he is back on track.

“But with injury problems like this you never know whether the recovery is successful until they are put to the test, but the signs are good.”

Hayes said he had been surprised by the test Minson would face in the Bletchingly Stakes when he clashes with Australia’s most valuable racehorse Haradasun (Coolmore stud paid $22.5 million for a half share) and Caulfield specialist Apache Cat.

“There is no way Minson had opposition that strong when he won the Bletchingly last year,” Hayes said.

That race was Minson’s sixth race start and his sixth win but he was unplaced at five subsequent starts before a stable change from Michael Hibbs at Geelong to Lindsay Park.

Hayes said he was a huge fan of Apache Cat and was sure he would test Haradasun.

“If Apache Cat is ready to run a forward race then he will make it tough for Haradasun.”

Apache Cat has won nine of his 22 starts for $1,545,975 in stakes. Haradasun has raced 10 times for six wins and three seconds for $2,003,350.

It’s a timely reunion for Minson and his rider Craig Williams who teamed to win the Bletchingly when first up after a six month break last year. Again, injury aside, Minson is coming off a similar absence from the track.

Its timely also that Craig Williams and David Hayes on Saturday will receive Melbourne Racing Club’s Masters’ Awards sponsored by Yalumba. The presentation of these annual awards will be made by MRC Chairman, Mr Peter Young and Yalumba National Business Manager, Mr Alan Gatehouse.
Williams won awards for being leading jockey at both Caulfield and Sandown racecourses for the season just ended. Last year he won the Sandown category on the points per race grading allocation basis.

Hayes won the Caulfield Master Trainer Award for the first time, ending Lee Freedman’s run of three successive awards. Freedman, however, extended his Sandown dominance to a fourth year.

Final tallies for the Master Awards were: Caulfield – Trainers: David Hayes 272 points, Lee Freedman 121, Peter Moody 114 and Mick Price 107. Jockeys: Craig Williams 221, Damien Oliver 125, Luke Nolen 112. Sandown – Trainers: Lee Freedman 158, David Hayes 150. Jockeys: Craig Williams 145, Sebastian Murphy 95.
