Whats some of the best covers you have heard a band do.

I've downloaded quite a few live versions of songs by other artists, the best one i've got is definetaly Jimi Hendrix doing Stairway to Heaven, its awesome, but im really pissed off because it cuts out the last (and best) minute of the song, and i can't find a version which has it

Other good covers are Van Halens version of Stairway to Heaven, while Led Zeppelin have done a very good cover of Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

U2 and Bob Dylan do a really good version of Dylans Knocking On Heaven's door, even though i dont really think you can call that a cover when Dylan is playing in it. Nirvana, Sonic Youth & REM play the Beatles Twist and Shout together, which i reckon is defientaly worth downloading.

Stairway to Heaven was recorded by Led Zeppelin and released on their fourth album on November 8, 1971.

Jimi Hendrix died in September 1970.

One thing about downloading unofficial live material is that a lot of it is labelled deliberately wrong to mislead people!

You can't go past Rolf Harris' cover of Take a walk on the wildside (I think that's what it's called.)
All the cover girls go do do-do do-do didgerido!

His version of Stairway was the best

Primal Scream did a good version of "Kick Out The Jams" when I saw em in 2000.

Fave cover on an album would be "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" covered by Nick Cave on Kicking Against The Pricks.

Other Honourable Mentions: Rowland S Howard - White Wedding, Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground, Faith No More - Easy....many more, can't think.

Oasis
Cum on feel the noize
I am the Walrus

Both fantastic covers. Infact I reckon 'cum on feel the noize' was alot heavier than the original.

Judas Priest's Green Manalishi has been a part of their live set for a long time, even though it's not an original, and doesn't appear on the original releases of any of their studio albums.

Manowar do a sensational Lady Marmalade when they play in France.

And I always thought Dio-era Rainbow did a very good Mistreated even though I prefer the Deep Purple "California Jam" version.

Nope....Live in Europe (Blackmore's last show in Mark III) is the best....the way they segue into B.B. King's Rock Me Baby and out again is excellent.

Yes, totally agree.

As well as Drugs Don't Work

Also Me First & The Gimme Gimmes do some excellent punk reworkings of famous musical hits such as Phantom of The Opera and A Few Of my Favourite Things

Bon Jovi (featuring Bob Geldof) - I don't like Mondays is a favourite of mine.

Guns N Roses - Knocking on heavens door, the Live version on their double live cd is great.

Tesla's version of Signs (old Five Man Electrical Band song), plus they have been doing a cover of Black Sabbath's War Pigs in a lot of their recent shows, which in the words of people who have heard it, "f*ckin' rocks"

Saw The Celibate Rifles do a rollicking version of Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" at the espy early last year. They also do a stellar version of "2000 light years from home" aon the live album "Yizgarnoff".

Gun's & Roses cover of Dylan's - Knocking of Heaven's door
Rolf Harris doing Stairway to Heaven

22 Jacks covering Message in a bottle.

Pennywise covering Minor Threat on their live at the Key Club album, but even better - I've seen them play covers of TNT, Fight for your right to party and Nirvana's Territorial Pissings, and they all WENT OFF!

The Rifles have also done a great version of Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" as well as "Everyone's a Winner Baby" by Hot Chocolate. Pure class.

There seems to be a bit of an anti-Pearl Jam club at BigFooty (I don't mind 'em), but I reckon their live version of Rockin' In A Free Word (Neil Young) is f*cking awesome!!

SOD (Stormtroopers of Death - featuring members of Anthrax & Nuclear Assault) do a short, sharp live version of Territorial ****ings too... bit of a cult favourite, that band and their albums.

The Scorpions do a version of The Cars' Drive on their Acoustica set (as the title suggests, it's an unplugged-type thing), and it works really well.

Deep Purple do a very good version of the Stones' Paint It Black. I especially like the one on the Scandinavian Nights double-CD, which was recorded in Stockholm in 1970. The six minute drum solo in the middle is a little out of place, but Ritchie Blackmore's guitar on it sounds sensational.

The Celibate Rifles are one of our finest bands. "Yizgarnofff" is one of my alltime favorite live albums, and their take on "2000 Light Years......craps all over ther original Stones version.

The Cosmic Psychos are another great 'cover" band. Once saw 'em at the Prince Of Wales give......don't laugh.......Racey's "Some Girls" the treatment and it really worked. Other great Pyschos' "covers" are Buffalo's "Sunrise" and Lobby Lloyde's "GOD" which appear on their "Palomino Pizza" E.P.

where's wally?

Ross Knight from the Psychos has another band called Dung who do an awesome version of Buffalo's "I'm a skirt raiser (not a shirt-lifter)". I always get up and do the Sharpie Shuffle to it.

Can I nominate Brittney Spear's cover of "I love Rock and Roll" as one of the WORST.

I've always said that the All Saints should be hung, drawn, and quartered for what they did to Under the Bridge.
