"The one year I played for South Australia it was probably the biggest and best game in my career outside of Grand Finals and finals ... I played for NSW months after I represented SA and realised I'd never do it again cause it's not worth risking injury and your career with the Kangaroos. But if the rules stayed as they were I'd have played for South Australia every year" - Wayne Carey on 5AA right now.

What a gem.

anyone who watched him play against victoria in 1992 knew how he felt about it.

one of the best games I've seen anyone play, and the stats don't reflect the influence and degree of difficulty of what he was doing.

they gave the medal to david hynes. pah.

And really that tells us what we all know. For us there is no better game than SA Vs Victoria and from WA point of view WA Vs Victoria.

This concept of allies, while admirable in wanting to give other players recognition, its a flawed exercise and this All Star crap that AFL have come up with is laughable!

I would love to see SOO back but I would rather not have it at all than have this hybrid piss weak concept of all stars

And isn't it ironic that the rules got changed after Carey dominated against Victoria in that game he played for SA.

Not sure he is telling the complete truth but makes for a feel good thread :)

He said practically the same thing on the "Carey - The Story So Far" highlights DVD produced 7 or 8 years ago.

At the time of the match in question the Roos weren't a finals team and he was always envious of Collingwood vs Carlton vs Essendon blockbusters - that Origin game was the first time he'd played in such a massive encounter.

One of his biggest regrets in footy was the redrawing of the eligibility.

Just happened to watch the 1993 SOO final SA v Vics this morning and man it brought back some great memories. Particularly the magic of one D Jarman. Good times.

The rules didnt seem to be a problem when Dunstall was playing for the Vics

Does anyone know the actual reason for changing the rules ? I mean the one that the AFL gave at the time ?
