To be honest you did get some stiff calls but they didnt make your team turn over every kick. You guys were just really off the boil today, and Lucas didnt look 100%

Some bad calls both ways. The Keiran Nicholls/Matty Lloyd love affair is really coming along nicely - I expect there'll be dinner and a movie later tonight.
Anyway........ :)

100% agree. I hate they way talk to the players "get it out, get it out", "thats in the side, thats fine", "no prior opportunity there", "both holding, play on"....they should just shut up and officiate the game. The only time they should speak is when saying what the free kick they awarded was for, eg. holding the ball, hands in the back (to go next year hopefully), etc... also, the holding the ball rule needs to be fixed. A player needs to be given a genuine and relatively consistent opportunity to dispose of the ball and players should not be rewarded for dragging the ball under another opponent and holding it in under them.
And most of all, they should try and keep their influence to a game at the minimum. I find that umpires actually tend to officiate the game better in tense final quarters, as they are less reluctant to award soft or 50/50 free kicks - they let the game flow. They should adopt this philosophy 100% of the time!

Armies of Bombers fans came to hang it on anyone who complained about the Umpiring in bombers close wins earlier this year and now look at this.

Some decisions were frustrating but our inablity to hit a target or handle the ball cleanly was more frustrating. Complaing about the umpires after a big loss is futile. That is the domain of the Hawthorn supporters on this board.

I concur. Pathetic effort today particularly with the season on the line. We were run off our legs and smashed at the clearances. The umpiring made little difference.

I recall quite a few frees to Lloyd that werent there. Everytime there was a contest, Essendon dove, Maybe the umpires actually had their contacts in today so they weren't paying all of em.

For mine, the game was over-umpired.
There seemed to be a lot of decisions made without any real point to them. The inevitable result is that both sides feel hard done by even though it was fairly balanced.
It was ordinary umpiring, but in no one's favour and it certainly didn't take away from Hawthorn's victory.

There I was thinking it was the Hawks who belted Essendon by 63 points .... 63 points ... because we are the better team, when all the while it was the umpires who defeated the Bummers.
I had to laugh when Lloyd had hold of Young's jumper, the whistle went and Lloyd automatically ran back to get the free kick as if it was his divine right. The look on his face was priceless when he saw he wasn't getting a free.
I used to be a huge fan of Lloyd, but all I see him doing now is looking for the soft option .. not good for a captain.
As someone else said ... Essendon supporters whingeing about umpiring is the final irony.

The umpiring was atrocious today. Both teams had atrocious decisions against them. The one just on half time for holding the ball without any prior opportunity awarded to M Lloyd was ludicrus, as was the free kick against Lloydy 2 minutes earlier that went to Croad for holding the man. There was crap paid all day, and some crap not paid and it went both ways.
That said, I don't think it effected the outcome, you guys were pretty bad today!

there was a point in todays game for about 10 mins where in every contest there was a free kick paid. One clear one that stands out 4 me was the push by buddy franklin on paddy ryder i think that resulted in a jarryd roughead goal in the 2nd quarter. The umpire was about 10m away directly inline with the contest and didn't call anything. Umpires don't seem to take prior opportunity into consideration when paying holding the ball anymore aswell.

Read what I said, I'm not just talking about our game I’m just as easily talking about the Richmond game, that people complained about the umpiring and Essendon fans hung masses amounts of crap on anyone who dared say Essendon got the bettor of any umpiring and to a level no other club on this forum does.
Go look at my posts if you read if you want to see where I said it cost us our game because you won’t find it. You will find a post about our skill errors from that match.
I am pointing out the fact that Essendon fans are now taking their time to whine as well and that fans who copped it from Bombers supporters for pointing out umpiring inequities from Richmond, Melbourne and Sydney matches (at least).
It’s also very big of you to finish with a "you know nothing about" statement.

Unless I've missed something, I can't see a single Essendon supporter on here saying the Bombers lost the game because of the umpires. Or that the umpires 'deliberately cheated' to give the Hawks the premiership points.
Which makes for a fairly significant difference from much of the hysterical garbage that was posted on here following each and every one of our games against the teams you mention. (And I might add this is before we even get to arguing the toss about whether Essendon got the rub of the green in those games in any case.)
And, as for your inference that Essendon supporters whine and complain in umpiring threads more than any other set of fans? Puh-lease.

Stay tuned for some other great threads including:
1/ StKilda lash out at other teams' ugly game-plan.
2/ Blues suspicious that certain teams are tanking.
3/ Eddie McGuire labels opposition fans "ferral"
4/ Eagles certain that drug use is rife on the Eastern sea-board.

You begin by complaining of a passage where you said there was a free paid at every contest, with your example being a free kick that wasn't paid?
Do YOU know what you're on about?

There's ALWAYS going to be the odd one or 2 that are wrong. Nothing wrong with it.
Hawthorn 20- Essendon 22.
Seems preety fair to me. It's not like it won hawks the game or anything & had a major impact on the game.

Not what I said at all.
What I said was the number or Essendon supporters who gang en masse to attack and attempt to humiliate anyone who says Essendon got the better of the umpiring e.g. After Richmond, Melbourne and Sydney matches.

Sunday was quite possibly the worst umpiring display I've ever seen, towards both sides. That ****wit Ray Chamberlin should be sacked immediately. It's pricks like him who think they're a part of the game that I can't stand. They're killing the game.
