Note this is not directed at local league umpires. You do a tough job on bugger all pay and for the most part do it well. You have my utmost respect.

This is to the absolute idiots that are AFL umpires. Get the f--k out of the way. You are NOT part of the game. You are NOT important. You are a neutral party brought in to bounce the ball and decide free kicks. THAT'S IT. Your job isn't to be the players friend. Your job isn't to commentate the play. Your job is to stay out of the way and blow your whistle for a ball up or for a free kick when it's there. I can't stand these idiots who seem to think they're part of the game. Piss them off.

End rant.

Mate, they ARE part of the game (we couldn't play without them!), but I agree with your sentiments 150%. They think they're the BIGGEST part of the game. They think people go to the Footy to watch them. They are prima donna's who are completely unaware of the term 'be seen but not heard'. Someone, ANYONE, needs to tell them to pay the obvious free kicks, and then STFU. Be UNOBTRUSIVE. DON'T overumpire. Let the players PLAY. They are sadly ignorant of these concepts.:thumbsd:

Well if it's so easy to hack it to pieces, then do it.

What would I know, I only go to the game every week and have done so for the last 5 years...

Well there are 3 sentences right there which are incorrect.

Umpires are part of the game, they are important.

Football - Umpires = No Game

what a bunch of idiots...they are the most important part of the game. the no umpires=no game term has been mentioned a lot here, and its 100% true.

ATTN-You guys....get a life, youre amatuer umpire observers, who have nothing better to do than ring SEN after the game and tell them where the umpires went wrong grow up!

By part of the game, I mean they aren't what people go to see. They should just stay out of the way.

And del_horno, the players are the most important part of the game. That's a ridiculous thing to say.

You can't have the game without players, you can't have the game without umpires. I'd say they are just as important as each other. No one goes to the game to watch the goal posts, but it doesn't mean they aren't important.

Umpires are part of the game.
Umpires are important to the game.
Umpires have to be seen and heard. If they aren't it would be impossible to make decisions and police the laws.

There is some educated criticism on the umpires and there is some irrational crap. A lot of the stuff on here is the latter.

It's just as pathetic as the cries of bias when umpires make mistakes.

I don't think umpires should sledge, use sarcasm and/or try to be funny in their communication with the players. That doesn't mean that they should not think that they are part of the game and shouldn't be seen or heard.
