View Full Version : Ben Hudson Ranks 3rd in the AFL for Hardball Gets
Can you believe that?
THIRD in the competition!
After 18 rounds, Hudson has an amazing 92 hardball-gets at an average of five per game.
This is just five less than competition leader Nathan Foley of Richmond (97) and three shy of West Coast superstar Chris Judd (95).

Quite easy to believe, and one of the reasons why Hudson is my favourite player.
He seems to have lost a little bit of effectiveness in the ruck since doing his knee, but his desire and hardness at the ball is second to none.
Can I ask why he was never picked up earlier?
He has only played 3 years of football(Missing out on all of last year) and is already 28yo, he seems to be an "Everything/Modern Day" Ruckman, can get disposals, is effective at hitouts, can tackle and by that stat gets the hard ball too.
Has been a good DreamTeamer as well, being so undervalued because of not playing last season, I have had him in my side all year.
:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
That amazes me.
"What Hudson says he lacks in skills he more than makes up for with grit, determination and sheer hard work."
Those 6 words sort of epitomized our win on Saturday night.

The stats don't surprise me at all. His second and third attempts are phenomenal. How many times do you see him roving his own ruck work? He has as much heart as the big fella Rehn.
I've been keeping an eye on this stat in the footy record, and he's always been in front with the hard ball gets within the club. Not often you see a ruckman in and under contesting the ball, great to see from Huddo :thumbsu:

Especially one who's come back from a knee reconstruction. ;)
Andrew Capel sat in on the same press conference as Ashley Porter did, by the look of things - it just took him 9 more days to write the same article!

Not surprising at all. People forget that this is exactly his strength. Before he did his knee he was amongst competition leaders for HBGs this despite having to split the time in the ruck with Biglands. Now he is playing for longer period and he is right up there again. Give him whole of this year to get over the knee and he will be even better next year.
It was so obvious that we missed his hardness around the ball last year. I have often said if we could somehow get Clarke's actual ruckwork and somehow install it into Huddo we would have the best ruckman in the competition.
A very interesting stat! He will be missed this weekend.

I know Huddo goes in for the hard ball but for those of you who say they aren't surprised, dampen your hand and give yourself a slap. A ruckman THIRD in the comp for hardball gets is extremely surprising, it's very disappointing to see him get suspended. A massive loss.

Not if every one of our guys goes in for one more extra contested ball than usual :) We can cover him in this area, he doesn't exactly turn games around due to his hardball gets.
