View Full Version : Our form, tell me the truth.

I've only been able to check the end results for the last 5-6 Sydney games, and our winning margins, albeit against the weaker sides, has been positive from a statistical point of view, plus we ran an almost full-strength WC side to withinn 2 goals, away from home, but i feel like i'm not getting the entire story on our form.
How well are we playing really? In which areas do we need to step-up? Who are the top 8 players and who are the worst 5? I hope this creates a lot of discussion so i can get an idea of where we're at. Thank you fellow Blood supporters!!
:)
Defensively, we've played a a pretty sensational year despite struggling through some tricky injuries. We seem to have overcome some of the structural problems losing player like Tige, LRT and more recently Leo presented by juggling a few player's roles. Our depth has really helped in this area.
Our general fitness has abeen amongst the league's best. Without running off to the stats, anecdotally I'd say that our second halves - in particular our last 4th qtrs - are right up there with any team in football.
But it has been in our forward area and in the midfield that we've really struggled to make headway this season. But in the last month (against terrible oppososition for the most part) many of the players who've had trouble kicking straight and getting their hands on the pill have seen vast improvements.
McVeigh, Schneider, Jude, Goodes, ROK (goal kicking wise), Amon, Ablett, Mathews and at long last Hall have all been playing close to their best football of the season. And that is about as promising a report as it gets.
Where does that leave us? Well we're better able to survive the occassional shootout quarters that have burned us earlier in the year (Kangas for example with that horror 7 goal 1st qtr) - and that was something that preserved us in the last two seasons.
But this month is the big test.

One word that best soums up our form of last is PATCHY.
Against the Eagles it was the usual close tight encounter in the first half before we got blown away in the third. We were able to peg bag some resrectability in the final quarter but it was too little too late.
The Richmond and Melbourne games were very similar except the in the Richmond they stuck with us in the first half before Hally blew them away with 6 and we romped away in the second half.
In the Melbourne game we looked set for a 100 point victory at half time however we slacked off in the second half and the margin stayed about the same and it turned into a very boring game to watch.
As it stands at the moment we still can make the top 4 if we win at least three of our next four games probobly all 4 and its still possible we can make the top 2. Having said that a loss this week or next week against either St Kilda or Brisbane and we could struggle to even make the 8.
How that can bring you somewhat up to speed on how were going.

shyte! Illusionary. poor against most top 8 teams. kicking a few goals in the last 15 mins to make a respectable scoreboard is not good form. This week will tell all.

Sadly you may be right. But I'm hoping not. I see plenty of upside for us but this month will see as as contenders or outed as pretenders.

True, and as of the current ladder, Sydney has only defeated 3 teams of the 7 teams in the top 8. :thumbsd:
