Perhaps it is just my imagination, but I believe that recently the umpires have begun to pay a lot more 50m penalties because of late contact after a mark. I've noticed a significant increase in very 'soft' penalties of this nature in the last couple of weeks. The incident today where Ben Dixon exaggerated the contact from a marginally late-bump (and succeeded in getting the 50) is a very good example of this.
Have the umpires been instructed to be more wary of this or is it just a strange case of the interpretation changing for no reason?
