UFO - Rock Bottom (Michael Schenker)
UFO - Lights Out (Michael Schenker)
Judas Priest - Dreamer Deceiver (Glenn Tipton)
Judas Priest - Painkiller (Glenn Tipton & KK Downing)
Megadeth - Hangar 18 (Dave Mustaine & Marty Friedman)
The Eagles - Hotel California (Joe Walsh & Don Felder)
The Scorpions - Catch Your Train (Uli Jon Roth)
Arch Enemy - Silverwing (Michael Amott)
Uli Jon Roth - Mighty Wing Cadenza

I agree one hundred percent here. What's amazing is Pagey did it in one take. He used a Fender Stratocaster (a blue one).

Jimi Hendrix - 'Voodoo Chile' (the slower bluesy version on
the 'Electric Ladyland' album.

I love to cover this tune. My favorite Hendrix solo(s) are the ones he did on 'All Along the Watchtower'

Keith Richards (The Rolling Stones) - 'Sympathy For The Devil'

Great Tune. The soloing is a perfectly understated job in E minor. I think the entire composition makes the soloing parts sound more interesting. Of course you could say that for any Stones number.

Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) - 'Child In Time'

For my money, I'll take Ritchie's efforts on 'Highway Star' or 'Lazy.' Ritchie was one of the first classic rockers to start integrate Jazz & Classical modes/scales into his playing.

Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) - 'I'm Goin' Home'

Eric Clapton (Derek And The Dominoes) - Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?

My favorite Clapton solo is the one he lended George Harrison's Beatles track - 'While my Guitar Genltly Weeps.' I believe he used a 3 pick-up Les Paul. Unsure of the Amp.

Angus Young (AC/DC) - 'Bad Boy Boogie'

Drones one note for five minutes and makes it work! I also like Angus playing 'The Jack' live.

Johnny Winter - 'Mean Town Blues'

Stevie Ray Vaughan - 'Cold Shot'

My favorite SRV solo is from 'Texas Flood.' 'Lenny' is a great instrumental - also any Hendrix Cover by SRV.

Lobby Lloyde (Coloured Balls) - 'Human Being'

I'm going to add EVH 'Erruption' from the first album. At the time, it was completely shocking and innovative. Well, it still is. However, since that time we have heard so many shredders "borrow" these ideas, it has lost a slight bit of its edge.

Adding anything done by Randy Rhoades.

That'll do it for me.

Do you guys actually realise that guitars are used in genres OTHER than rock, rock, and more rock?

My favourite solo (not actually on a "guitar" so to speak...) is from El Cuarto de Tula (from the Buena Vista Social Club album) performed on a laoud (similar to a lute) by Barbarito Torres.

After that, my next favourite solo is in a song from a video game performed on a piano so i won't bore you with the details since it's probably not DISTORTED enough for you all. ;)

Mountain, what a great band! 'Flowers Of Evil' is a great album. Ever heard '74's 'Avalanche' album? 'Cover' versions of Jerry Lee's 'Whole Lotta Shakin' and a slower bluesier take of The Stones 'Satisfaction' are crackers. I also love the opening riff on 'Sister Justice'. Yep, Mountain were cool.

Have to agree with that one. No question about it. I've grown up listening to my dad's Eagles CDs and as much as you want to hate the music your parents listen to, sometimes its impossible!

Most of my favourite guitar solos come from the album Siamese Dream, by Smashing Pumpkins. Almost all of the songs has solos of some sort, and almost all of which are absolute defining moments of alt-rock of the 90's (IMO).

I also like the work of Pearl Jam and Radiohead, and Peter Buck of R.E.M. has also had a few good incidental moments.

Likewise, Nick McCabe also produced some great work, of a more experimental nature in his time with The Verve.

Apart from that, there are tonnes of other guitar solos which are more than appreciable! :D
