Aussie crowd abuse just spurs me on - Murali
August 16 2007 at 08:49AM Sydney - Muttiah Muralitharan has warned that any abuse from Australian crowds will only spur him to break Shane Warne's world record in Sri Lanka's cricket tour here later this year.
The heavily-scrutinised Sri Lankan spinner has dared Australian fans to heckle him as he chases the nine wickets he needs to pass Warne's world record tally of 708 in the Australian great's own backyard.
Sri Lanka take on the world champion Australians in Tests in Brisbane and Hobart in November and a one-day tri-series with India and Australia early next year.
"He is comfortable with what Australia is like," Muralitharan's manager Kushil Gunasekera told Melbourne's Herald-Sun newspaper Thursday. He understands the harassment given by spectators will only make him more inspired and motivated. It will help him bowl better.
"Murali is happy to be taking on that challenge because Australia is a real test. He will come to Australia."
But while Muralitharan is within touching distance of Warne's record, he has a poor record playing on Australian wickets.
In three Tests in Australia, Muralitharan has taken eight wickets at 63.12.
Muralitharan has endured a turbulent relationship with Australian crowds since he was no-balled for throwing by Australian umpire Darrell Hair in the 1995 Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
After the 2005-06 tri-series, Muralitharan claimed Australian crowds were the world's worst and a disgrace to cricket.
He had vowed in 2003 he would never return to Australia after the abuse he received during the one-day series.
Even Australian Prime Minister John Howard labelled him a chucker.
Sri Lanka play Australia in Brisbane from November 8-12.

He has just dominated the Aussie's in Australia. He throws it and frankly taken so many wickets agains the poorest of opposition his record will be meaningless.

It will just make Aussies look silly on the world stage. No different from Indian crowds throwing things at opposition players from over the fence. Classless act - cant say the rest of the world would be surprised though. Aussie cricket team rarely show true sportsmanship - why should the uneducated crowds?

havnt seen the Aussie cricketers throw jelly beans on the pitch or walk off in protest yet.

Yes thats right. The sun shines out of the Aussie cricketers a$$. There is a way to win and lose. Not arguing that Australia want to win but the way they go about it is all jacked up.
If you want to see real men of cricket play, go back to the 60s - 80'. Michael Holding - ruthless but a gentleman. Richie Benaud - passion for success but a gentleman.
The current batch of Australian cricketers led by chief tosser Ponting may be one of the best but they are also a collective group of di****ds with the exception of Bracken, Hogg and a couple of others.

Shame that he didn't thought of it as a "spur" last time he went the coward's way out and opt out of the tour

It's all subjective.
I like Michael Holding but there's a lot of people would say that the way he played the game was anything but gentlemanly or how it should be played.
I take you back to 1976 when he subjected two 40 year olds in Close & Edrich to one of the most violent batteries of short pitched bowling ever seen towards the close of play one evening.
Brian Close in particular was pummelled with bruises all up his back.
There was more than some concern that one of them might have got killed that night (not a helmet in sight).
Now some people would day that's not what they want to see.
It's all opinions.
Let's just say hypothetically he had put one into someone's temple & killed them how would he stand as a gentleman now?

"No ball"
Holding also cried like a baby when Ian Chappell was given not out to him in 75-6.

thats not my point, my point is other countries are no angels either the way they play their cricket. People only point out Australia because they win a lot.
if Richie was such a gentleman he would of called back the west indian who got bowled when his hat fell off his head and bowled him.

lol a bloke sticking up for murali is using benaud as his example?
Benaud was at the front line in his time when it came to chuckers, he refused to bowl any player the acb picked if there was doubts about his action.
I laugh at all these murali fans anyway, just wait another 15 years when you have kids all over the world using his action.
The ICC lacked the balls to stand up to the Asian block over murali and it's going to cost the whole game dearly in years to come, batter up take me out to ball game because cricket it sure won't be.

He's a cheat, and he'll get carted if he actually has the balls to come here for a change.

Read the post. Murali's action has been approved by the ICC. Is it Murali's fault? The funny thing is you blow wind up Warne's a$$ but he is as much of a wa***er as Wayne Carey - adulterer and s*x fiend. How you can look at him as a hero of Australian cricket either says a lot about our culture or a lot about you. Every player has faults but I stood and applauded Warney for his achievement despite him being a fwit off it. That is showing basic respect for a great individual sporting achievement

it's pretty easy to clear somebody when you just change the goalposts.
Murali throws the ball, his action is 15 degrees when he's just using rat power in an out of game tests bowling balls that didn't even spin.
Imagine just how bad it is during a match when he needs a wicket and he's hurling down the doosra.
As i said just wait another 10 or 20 years and you will have 100 bowlers with his action then the shit will really hit the fan.
