I appologise if this has already been debated. Just wanted to know what peoples thoughts are on Flint. Was it a mistake to elevate him onto our senior list as opposed to Jackson? Has he even been close to a senior call up at all this year. Its his second year now and you would want him to really start showing glimpses of being an AfL player... Will he be around next year and does this kid have a future at the might blues??

He will be around next year, people tend to forget that it's his first year on the list.

He needs time and opportunity.

Flint is a medium sized defender, around the 192cm mark. Doesn't have the body to play on the big guys, but can play on the medium-smaller forwards.

His form for the first half last year was excellent, and then he unfortunately broke his leg. He was elevated at the end of last year to the senior list, showing how highly he is rated at the club.

Unfortunately, hasn't been able to get back to the form that he was showing prior to the injury. Has had a few very good games which were suggesting that he was recapturing his form, but he hasn't been able to do it consistently.

Most types of players, when they come into the system, need to learn the defensive side of the game to succeed. Only a small amount come into the AFL system with a very sound defensive game, and need their offensive game to develop. Flint is one of them. Has a great defensive game, and has been learning the attacking side-when to run off your player and provide some dash through the middle of the ground to propel the ball forward.

Flint isn't spectacular at anything, but has a sound game. His skills are good enough, and whilst not overly quick, certainly isn't slow enough to be worried in the slightest.

Many people tend to forget or fail to recognize that it's only Flint's first year on the list, coming off a serious injury last year. I would be amazed if he wasn't on the list next year, and I'd be pretty disappointed with the list management staff if that was to be the case.

Why do we need to delist Flint?
How often have you seen a first year player delisted?

People want to put a broom through the cupboard every year and clean out 8 or 9 players.

It is only worth doing this if there are this many out there to pick up in the respective drafts.

By all accounts this years draft is not deep, and you have to ask, if you de-list Flint, are you going to get someone with as much potential in return?

Given that we would be letting him go for a 4th or 5th round pick or a re-tread the answer is more than likely NO.

He was elevated because he showed plenty of promise. He injured himself, and if you look at guys who have come back from broken legs it takes 12 months easily to recapture form.

He will get next year to develop over the pre-season and push for a game. If he doesn't break through for senior selection next season you'd think he'll be delisted then.:thumbsu:

Out of curiosity, how bad was the broken leg? We've seen how long it takes players to come back from serious injuries - look at Fisher, took him a while but now he's playing the footy we knew he could. I'd definitely give Flint another year.

Hasnt he been around for 2 yrs now?
Was rookie listed in 2006 then elevated in 2007...does that mean they gave him a new contract, or let his rookied 2 yr deal run?

Signed a two year deal when elevated.
Out of contract at the end of 2008.

Gone I reckon. Not an 18 year old and has shown very little. Austin, Bower, Jamison and Grigg all gone past him. Was promoted to the Senior list, not because he had earned it, but because he could not stay on the rookie list - was a "last chance" promotion and he has not taken the chance.
