This next month will be the real litmus test of our defense, with no TK, a not fully fit Leo, a height deprived backline, and a Roos strategy that up till now, has been built from defense up. This has been our fortress, and we still hold the second best defense in the comp. But just how good are we down back this year when the heat is turned up will be interesting to watch. Wouldnt be surprised to see Goodes dropping back more and more over the next few weeks, to bolster a vulnerable backline, as we have seen is the past.

Your correct that it certainly is a test and it has been concerning our coaching staff to have been looking for new ideas such as testing Grundy up back. It may be that Brennan will be a better long term prospect backman than Grundy and hence his inclusion from the rookie list.

Last week though we passed the test, Craig Bolton led the defense brilliantly and Ted Richards stepped up his game again and Bevo refound some form that had been missing for a while.

I thought Kennelly was improving from his injury bit now were missing him too and I'm not sure Mal is not playing with some sort of leg injury, i'm still worried Mal is carrying some sort of upper leg - groin injury but hope to see a lot of running from him tonight.

The midfield have to carry some of the burden now, ensure there is pressure on the opponents midfield to ensure the ball does not come in cleanly to our opponents forward line and I still think we will have enough for the rest of the home and away season and hopefully we have our guys back by September.

well, our backs held up beautifully, conceding only 63 points, thats a winning defense. What the hell ever happened at the other end of the field is anyones guess. I think top 4 is now shot, and we only have our forwards to blame for that!

We had forwards? Oh that's right, we had people marking the ball in the 50 that didn't know how to kick a goal. Barry.. you are a goal kicker, you are being paid to kick goals. 1.5 isn't a goal kicker, it's a joke.

Our defenders did their job last night. And have been doing their job all year despite some serious injury hiccups along the way. :thumbsu:

As I mentioned in another thread the defenders didn't cost us last night. When you kick 4.11, 6.12 and finish with 8.15 you're always going to be cactus when the gameplan leads to fewer inside 50's.
