Werribee vs. Geelong
Saturday 18th August
Bartercard Oval at 2:00 PM

Shell's talentless hacks:

B Callan S. Hunt J. Hunt
HB Enright Spencer D. Johnson
C Davenport Byrne Varcoe
HF Gardiner Playfair Lonergan
F Grima Hawkins Blake
R King Gamble Byrnes
Int Mumford McArthur Bedford Thompson Cheep Hollmer Urie Hogan Clarke
R. Butler Foss West

Werribee:

B T. Sheringham Henderson Pask
HB Power Tiller D. Addison
C Wormald Young Rockefeller
HF Skipper McDougall McMahon
F Gleeson Podsiadly Robbins
R Street Castello Faulkner
Int Chisholm Hill Eddy
Baird Ericksen Harbrow
Gardiner Batchelor Wight
Lavars Hughes Lynch

As Jub mentioned, Vegas successfully challenged his sanction for rough conduct on the grounds that he'd confused Sharkey with Leigh Harding. The tribunal nodded understandingly and dismissed the charge.

Highlighted players were named in the firsts.
Djerrkura WILL NOT RETURN before the VFL finals.
Phil Read's cut his foot.
The Mummy from Bunyip's a chance to back Blake and West.
Grudge match? Sheringham and Batchelor are lining up for Werribee.

Rizzophiles can hear his dulcet tones broadcasting the Port Melbourne/Willy match on 1611.

It's not on 1611 but supposed to be on 97.7 3SER. So for those who need it could we all add updates for those who need them.

Remember when the expeeeeerienced AFL-listed Todd Grima conceded a stupid, stupid, stupid free to a diving Nick in the granny?

Up the other end of the ground was Big Al Nicholson, Ryan Ferguson and Chris Lamb.

Grima's just nailed his fourth, re cat.

Game over

Cats: 20-19-139

Werribee: 10-10-70

All AFL listed players seemed to play well. Callan dominated, Vegas was great early. Grima did well also with 4 first half goals, 2 in the second half.

Charlie got 5, Hank 3, Hawk 2, Callan Hogan Davenport 1.

Most of the afternoon Werribee couldn't hold Grima, however as soon as they did, Gardiner and Hank popped up and took over. Both slotting most of
their goals after half time.

Was too easy in the end. Hogan, Davenport and Bedford seem to do ok, most got a bit of the ball. Callan and Grima appeared to be BOG though,
with most others doing the team thing and just finishing off.

Werribee came back at the start of the last, Lonners did quite well with Pods, but he popped up early in the last to lead the charge. It seemed to kick start most of the Cats players and they just opened up the floodgates and it was all over in 10 minutes.

Sam Hunt seems to have a bad ankle injury.

The only one that came over the radio was Hunt, appears to have a bad ankle injury. Rest seemed ok.

Vegas really struggled in the last quarter, think fitness was a concern after halftime. I think he had about 14 or 15
possessions in the first quarter. Second was just as good.

Nothing other than that from the radio. In fact they've just confirmed by talking to one of the coaches that
Hunt is the only real injury at this stage.

Byrnes got a bit of it today, however on a few occasions the commentators said he 'should' have done better with his disposal.

I can remember a few plays where Byrnes was by himself to only kick it to the opposition or along the deck in front of Hank/Hawkins.

The other post about Thompson, he was quite lively too. Great to see some of the young guys perform well also, Davenport, Bedford
and Hogan appeared to get amongst it. Urie was ok too.

So even some of the VFL listed young guys played well, Mummy seemed to be ok in the ruck.

Great to see our non-AFL listed players doing well (Thommo, Urie etc.) because come finals time, they will be required due to the success of the seniors.

Good to see Hawkins get a couple but he should have gotten at least four, missed two easy ones down the end we were at including a poster and missed a fairly difficult one up the other end as well.

Alright turnout also, Werribee supporters were very quiet.

Good to see a lot of the seniors there also, with Selwood, Wojac, Egan, Kelly, Varcoe, Djerkurra (i think), Prismall, Bartel and even Sanderson there standing near us behind the goals.

Sam Hunt seems to have a bad ankle injury.
Unpleasant news, that's Owen and Hunt in successive weeks. Fingers crossed the injury isn't that serious. I was looking forward to Sam emulating his rampant finals form from last year, he's a key driver from our backline with his pace and long kicking. Maybe Loners can play a replacement role, but we're unlikely to be swinging H forward as often.

will the VFL listed players get much game time if say (hypothetical unlikley to happen) geelong afl gets bowled out in straight sets in the finals? is there a limit of afl players who can play in the vfl like the regular season and is the limit the same??
on that note how did chris urie play? i saw he got in the best - any chance of a rookie listing there?

I think Chris Urie is a decent VFL player from what I have seen of him. Any idea how old he is? I'm not so sure a rookie listing is really in order though. At the moment we have an abundance of talls who would probably be ahead of him, although a couple will probably be delisted at season's end... but I'd say we'll pick up at least one KPP in the national draft to replace the ones that go.

he's turned 20 this year i think.
i mean does he have the abillity to be rookie listed? it would be mighty hard to be rookie listed into a premiership team at the end of the year ;) but could it be an option for other clubs?

I hope we pick up Chris because I have seen him play quite a few times this year now. He has a lot of potential. Hope to see him on the cats list in 08 but there are so many good young players out there. It really depends on how many players we are allowed to rookie. Anyone know?
