View Full Version : Will Ed Barlow play the next 2 games?

Will he play the next two games? This is extremely important for my dream team, as fletcher is injured, and I need to trade for a backman, and upgrade a forward, and he is extremely cheap and scored well.
So what are his percentage chances of playing the next two?
Who's spot is he taking, and if someone is to be dropped to make way for returning players, will he be the first go or what?
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
Unfortunately i dont like his chances of playing next week as Leo Barry will be returning and even though they dont play in the same position i cant honestly see Paul Roos dropping anyone else from the team. The only player who might get dropped for Barlow is Brennan but he has been playing some good football in the past few weeks and it would be difficult to justify dropping him.

It was mentioned in an article I saw somewhere that he is likely to play the final two games, and make way for Kennelly when he returns.

I definitely think that Brennan will make way for Leo this weekend and Barlow will get another shot. I don't know if i can see him playing both rounds, but atleast this weekend. I also think we'll see Dempster returning soon, possibly round 22 where Barlow will be dropped for him. Then hopefully we'll see Kennelly back in the first week of finals.. where possibly Schmidt could be on the chopping block?

He surely has to keep his spot after that kind of performance. Whether he will make it to R22, I think he will because Tadhg is out until then.
Who do you think will be dropped for Leo Barry?

As Barlow is such an agile player for his size is there any possibility that he may replace Paul Bevan.Ed has to be given a few games to be assessed fully so we must not see him dropped.I don't think Brennen deserves to be axed either as he is just finding his feet.We also have Jared Crouch to come in for his 200th.He played well in the two's on Saturday. The selectors will have their work cut out for them this week...for a change.

barlow will hold his place, and i'm not so sure leo will be back this week...if he does come in, there's every chance bevo will have to make way, i'd have thought for the future's sake, let's give brennan and barlow more opportunity
Given the variety of jobs he'll be able to do for us, I think there is a very good chance for Brennan going out for Leo rather than Barlow.
It'd be worth doing if for no other reason than to scare the shit out of the Collingwood forwards by making it seem that Craig Bolton is everywhere!!! :D

Bevan should be dropped. Tho he's been playing ok, hes replaceable and he was awful against brisbane. That free kick when he decided to take on the tackler, got done for holding the ball, and brown scored a minute later, was appalling.

Initially I thought the same but we probably need him this week against Collingwoods smaller forward line. Davis, Medhurst and Didak spring to mind

Barlow would be more valuable I think. He can play as a small. I hear he is lightning quick over 30m and also has the endurance, plus would kill anything that comes in high.

Sorry, but the idea of getting Barlow - a 194cm giant in his second game - to play on Leon Davis is laughable. Bevan will have his name inked onto the team sheet before the match committee even sits down. And he deserves it on recent form too, especially with no-one else available to play such a role. The way Crouch's body has been breaking down, I can't see them risking him until he's strung a few games together.
I'll also be amazed if Barlow gets the chop after that debut. He did everything that was asked of him and more.
Like another poster earlier in this thread, I am not convinced that Barry will be back this week, but if he is, Brennan or Schmidt will most likely make way, depending on the mix they want between defenders and mids.
I'd be surprised to see Barlow get the chop after 1 week and a performance like that.
I think everyone including coaching staff where happy with what they witnessed at the Gabba with Barlow.
They will probably talk to him about being aware of his opponents getting toward him faster than the ACT league but that will have to be something he gets used to himself and I can see no reason for it not to happen.
He'll play this week.

pies have got their own problems, by the way...fraser apparently is in real doubt, has some back problem to go with the other injuries he's had, and that's not good for a ruckman....and of course johnson's gone....
hopefully rocca and davis will have an "off" night.....and i also wonder if nathan buckley coming back into the side for the first time this year might prove a distraction in some ways, surely he'll sit in a forward pocket, but is that a good thing?
i'm actually quite confident this week, and in fact i'm looking at us winning our last two and seeing where we end up in the finals mix? might even be a good thing to finish 5th, we'd get a home final against the lame-duck team that finishes 8th (no disrespect but whoever finishes 8th will have basically fallen over the line)
and let the top 4 teams bash each other, while we get on a roll from 5th...
it can be done, people, winning a flag from outside the top 4, and if we CAN get on a roll, we can be that team
Well according to this article he'll definitely be playing this week:
http://sydneyswans.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArticle/tabid/7106/Default.aspx?newsId=49436
Paul Roos:
“He seemed to have very good composure and made some good decisions, had a couple of bloopers but that is expected, but certainly not many if you factored up his game under those pressure conditions.
“His first up effort was great and he will be clearly be in the team this week.”

yeah lets forget top 4, in fact i reckon thats Roosys secret plan anyway, finish 5th, get a home final, smash that 'lame duck', and get a roll on to the real finals game. fa gods sake, what r u on woman.......... if only it twas that easy, they'd all be playing for 5th. I like your enthusiasm tho, seriously. Shyte Ive done it now. :o

LOL. Good point.
The commentators were blinded by two Craig Boltons last weekend.

what a good young all around player i think hes a very good pick by the swans and i see he will be a very valuable player!
I loved how they were confussed by him and craig bolton i must admitt i had 2 double take a few times!
Assuming no miracles from Tiger, Brennan's injury should ensure that the "Cheese" will certainly be playing this week regardless of whether Leo comes back into the side as we all hope he will. Unless LRT and Dempster have finally done enough to get a guernsey again? If he does play, helping against Hawthorn's talls will be a massive job for a Rookie. It'll be interesting to see if he can step up and cement a spot for a final.

Am I the only one who thought he had an absolute shocker on the weekend? He wasn't running hard at all. His speed of disposal was terrible.

Not as good as his first game, Collingwood may have been more aware of him than the Lions and made sure they pressured the kids disposal more. It was not a game to set the world on fire but I was not upset with it.

I was there and thought he was horrible. 7 disposals for 6 clangers or something? Definitely was a night to forget for Cheese.

May be very unlucky to be squeezed out if Tadhg gets himself fit, but he deserves to play his first final next week.
It's going to be very hard to fit Hall, Buchanan and Kennelly back into the side that played today (if I had my way it would be Bevan, Mathews and Dempster that depart, but I don't expect to get my way). A nice problem to have.

What a difference a week makes. This time last weekend we'd have willingly dropped 19 of them. (And one who "earned" his spot after last week's game missed today.)
Ablett's injury will make one spot easier to clear.
Bevan is about as safe as anyone other than Goodes, Kirk and B2. And I thought Dempster was impressive out there today. There's no point rushing Kennelly in for the sake of it. He looked proppy for the first couple of weeks after he came back last time. It wasn't until the Saints game that he started to look more confident in his knee. It would be great to have the fit model back but I don't think a half-baked version would add much to the outfit we saw this afternoon.

I have no idea what Paul Roos is going to do. There is a small part of me that doesnt want Hall to play against Collingwood as i think his injury is hampering his performance too much. It would be extremely hard to dropped Dempster or Barlow as they both played really well today. Im not sure about Kennelly but i dont think he will play next week as he wonty be fully fit. It has to be asked wheather Buchanan is in good enough form to be automatically put back in the team in expense for Dempster or Barlow and in my personal opinion he isnt.

EB certainly deserves to play finals. It will be the greatest exp of his life, but he isnt a leader yet and needs the team to perform so he can hit his own potential. I'd be dirty if Dempster got dropped again, but not surprised. Hes been unlucky. Buchannan is inconsistent, but when he is 'on', hes very very handy to have running. Those who said TK is no good unless fully fit, are correct. And like all of us, we want Hally there, but we know the reality of where he is at. Tricky. Its gonna be a gamble with the swans, as its been all year. who knows, i think even Roosy flips a coin half the time.
Very excited about The Cheese! Amon will come in for Ablett (assuming no more freakish miracles from the medical staff) and Eddie will play, Hall for Demspter. But if Ablett pulls up I'd say it'd probably be Dempster and EB/Bevo to go down. Bevan has been one of the most improved players on the list since his return. Can't see him going down now. Only height matchups might give Dempster a berth. But Barlow realy provides us options the lenght of the field - he even filled the FF position for a tick on the weekend, and pushed forward for a goal. So I'd love to see him retain a spot until Tiger returns.
Barlow just seems so much more potent an option with LRT and Leo back in the side. I was sitting there on the weekend and you could really see how much structure we've been missing all year without that big, blonde mobile CHB! Goodey's role transformed, and almost never had to push back, exposing a few Hawks around the breakdown in the middle big time.
Pies could be in for a shock this week. :thumbsu:
