Hi Footy fans...

Finals footy is less than four weeks away, with Central District locking away first spot plus the minor premiership there are two other sides that still have a chance at breaking into the top five. Norwood has a shot, as does Port, but first they've got to get through each other next week. The Magpies have a more difficult road, they have a bye in the next couple of weeks and the Redlegs do not. So which is going to step up best? That depends on the fortunes of the current fourth and fifth placed sides.

Welcome to this week's edition of the SANFL Wrap-Up for Round 20.

First we head off to the Alberton Oval, where the Magpies hosted the Double Blues. Sturt was stunned by the Eagles last week and were mighty angry and soon the 'Pies would feel the brunt of that anger. Port were inaccurate early, they kicked 2.5 while the Blues put through 4.3 to be up by 10 points at quarter time. The visitors would then follow that up with a 6.4 to 4.3 second term, putting the gap out to 23 points by the long break. Brant Chambers relentless march to the Ken Farmer Medal continued today, with more punishment coming for the Magpies in the third term. They kicked a further 5.1 to 2.3, stretching the gap to 39 points at the final change. The game was all over by this time, Port coach Tim Ginever would be left scratching his head and the headache is still to come as his men face a week on the sidelines and two games to pull it together. The final term was the only time the 'Pies outscored the Blues, kicking 3.5 to 3.1 to bring the final margin back to 35 points. Chambers kicked nine goals for his day, but it was Jade Sheedy who was named best for Sturt while Kristian DePasquale was voted best for Port.

We now head out to The Parade as the Bloods payed a visit to the Redlegs. The Redlegs are on the verge of breaking into the final five, a bye to the Tigers this week was something very handy to them while the Bloods are just playing for some pride. The opening term was closely fought, the difference being six points to Norwood at quarter-time, 3.4 to West's 2.4. Norwood then put the boosters on, kicking 6.4 to the Bloods' 4.2 to stretch out the gap to 20 points at the long break. The competitive spirit that West has displayed the last few weeks wasn't all there this day, without Marc Dragicevic in the midfield did hurt the Bloods bad. Norwood could have blitzed the Bloods in the third term had they been more accurate, they kicked 3.5 to the visitors' 2.2 to take a 29 point lead at three quarter time. But the Redlegs saved the best for last and did finally blitz the Bloods. Still a bit inaccurate, no-one at the Redlegs would complain as they kicked 8.5 to 3.2 in the last quarter to win by 62 points. Nick Lower was voted best for the Redlegs, while the Bloods voted in returning captain David Piasente as their best afield.

The ABC Match of the Day could not have been chosen any better, the viewers at home were in for an absolute treat as the Eagles and the Roosters locked feathers at Woodville Oval. The Roosters started off best, kicking off to a 13 point lead at quarter time with a 3.5 to 1.4 first quarter. The Roosters extended that lead to 20 points at the half-time break, North putting through 5.2 to the Eagles' 4.1 in the second term. But the Eagles were about to put a shock into the visitors camp when play resumed, they kept the Roosters to just three behinds in the third quarter while booting through 6.5 for themselves to lead by three goals going into the final change. The return of Mark Passador to the Eagles league side was really felt by North in that term, where he booted his five goals for the day. The last quarter was a belter, North didn't surrender for a second and it was an absolute frenzy as the lead changed twice in the final couple of minutes. But it was the heroics of Ken McGregor that saw the Eagles through, a Sam Fairclough goal after a McGregor tackle saw the reigning premiers win by three points. McGregor was named best for the Eagles while the Roosters named Trent Sporn as their best performer.

In the final game of Round 20, the lights went on up north at the Hamra Homes Oval as the Bulldogs hosted the Panthers. This one wasn't going to be a contender for match of the year, both sides guilty of some average skills. But the Dogs were going to take the Panthers for all they were worth, booting 6.1 to 1.3 in the first term to be up by 28 points at the first change. The skill errors of both sides was evident for the next two quarters, starting with the second term where the Bulldogs' entries into their 50 saw them share the ball around too much, resulting in them scoring just 2.2 to South's 2.5. At the long break the Dogs were up by 25 points. In the third term the Bulldogs inaccuracy would not have impressed the home crowd, they kicked 3.5 to 1.1 to put the gap out to 41 points by three quarter-time. The final term would have put some smiles on the faces on some Doggies fans, they kicked 6.3 to South's 4.1 in that last quarter to take out a 55 point win. Chad O'Sullivan was named best for the Bulldogs, South named Scott McGlone as their standout with his 29 disposals and 17 marks.
