So the crims next door win their 8th close game for the season against the bad kicking and severely undermanned saints. Only one good thing out of all that ..

Freo can still grab 8th spot and if Essendon play anywhere near their best, a win against WC for them and other results falling into place can see WC fall to 5th...

Then is us (8th) versus the crims in week one of finals at Subiaco ..

flaw in the plan...if Essendon beat us, chances are they'll take eighth spot. See the dilemma there? YOU'LL BE IN 9TH!!!! bye bye final :thumbsd:

Iscah - you are an optimist of the highest order.
We're gawn for this season - consigned to the catacombs of the AFL.

agreed is hard , but if Richmond beat essendon, essendon beat the crims. We finish above Essendon so that is not impossible.

We are all allowed to dream. Your club can try dreaming about beating up on Freo for a change or financing the dicks who supply our kids .. get back some credibility as a club before you bother about drowning other club's hopes on their own board

too much still to go on this week before we can make a realistic stab at "what if" scenarios for next week

Still an outside chance. Results that needed to happen this week that have happened ..

- Saint Kilda lose
- Fremantle win big
- Adelaide beat Brisbane, but not by lots

Likely next week we will need at least :

- Brisbane to lose at home to Geelong (feasible)
- Adelaide to lose away against Collingwood (feasible)
- Richmond to beat Saint Kilda (possible if Saints have as many out again this week).

It would then mean our winning margin against Port plus Adelaide's losing margin to Collingwood needs to add up to around 80 points difference. Possible ..

Is a pity the fixturing is such that each team who can make it, know it just before their game. That is Adelaide know Friday night a win gets them in. Then if they lose, Saints know a win agaiinst Richmond get them in, if they lose, Brisbane know their win gets them in. Would have been great in reverse order so teams play not knowing if a win helps them.

If you took odds on it you would be looking at around a 20/1 shot at the moment for us to make the top 8. But then would have been 100/1 before this weekend as an accumulator.

Losing 4 games this year with more scoring shots than the opposition has not helped .. such a very very average set of teams outside Geelong this year. Bit like Adelaide being a class above last year before a mountain of injuries. Then 5 goals up in Prelim before their only fit ruckman went down, luck plays such an important part, maybe our turn to get some !! :D

We might conceivably beat Port, but not by ten goals. At half time yesterday, we looked on for a 100 point win, but it didn't materialize. I wouldn't get too excited by beating the 15th placed team on your home turf.

Port will be playing for a top four spot next week. They will do to us what we did to them at the same stage last year.

We don't need to. If it comes between us and Adelaide then it comes to % and us catching up about 80 points. If Collingwood are running into some form (which looked like they were last night) then can win that by 60 points. That means we only have to win by 20 points.

Other results are likely to mean it inconsequential anyhow, but the 80 point catch up on Adelaide is not hard as you suggest ...

Chance of a home final of Freo (8th) versus WC (5th) has come in from about 500/1 to about 60/1 after this weeks results.

Needs all of this :
COLLINGWOOD to beat Adelaide by about 8 goals (possible)
RICHMOND to beat Saint Kilda (possible)
GEELONG to beat BRISBANE (probable)
ESSENDON to beat West Coast by about 4 goals (possible re Brisbane, Saints and Freo have all done it at Subiaco this year)
KANGAROOS to beat Western Bulldogs by about 12 goals (probable, given they have given up almost)
HAWTHORN to beat Sydney (probable, Sydney can't move from 7th/8th)
FREMANTLE to beat Port Adelaide by about 4 goals (possible)

Needs just 1,2,3 and 7 for Freo to make the top Eight.
Needs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 for Freo to play West Coast the first week at Subiaco

I realise it aint going to happen, but it would put a bit of interest in the game if Adelaide lost by 10 goals and Richmond won wouldn't it? :D

Of all of them, the bold one is the biggest unlikelihood and therefore stumbling block.

With Adelaide's game plan, it's unusual for 10 goals to be kicked in one of their games, talk about them lose by 10.

Oh..and nice dig at the Eagles in a topic that had nothing to do with them. Relatively subtle at least. ;)

subtlety - not one of my strong points sometimes huh ?
True Adelaide do close up games, but tired players playing away from home, always a chance for a blow out, anything over 6 goals would be nice ..
