Since there will be no football in September for Freo, who else will be watching the Rugby World Cup.
I recon Australia are in with a good chance to grab it, but will have to bring their A game to defeat the All Blacks.
Who do you think will win the RWC?

As much as it hurts to say I see the Kiwis finally winning the games that matter and taking it out this time. Mind you I would much rather them win it than the Souf Efricans

hmmmmz... perhaps the French can win it as they are at home. They love to play the Kiwis and they can beat anyone on their day when they get there game going. I'm hoping of course the wallabies will win, but I think we may have a European winner.

If you judge it solely on paper the sheep-shaggers should romp it in, that being said they have a pretty big mental hurdle to overcome.
I like the Argies, Frogs or Irish. Would love to see us win it obviously, but our lack of decent forwards will stop us getting anywhere near winning it.

I dont think we can win the World Cup this year. Our forward pack lacks ferocity at the break down, and our scrum is piss weak.
I have selected Ireland. If we cant win, I would like to see them get over the line. They have a good squad, and they play a technically sound style of rugby.
Well the World Cup is off and running, with Argentina beating France 17-12
What are peoples thoughts on todays games?
NZD v Italy - New Zealand
Aust v Japan - Australia
Eng v USA - England
some pretty easy tips there I'd of thought! How short are the odds! Even a multi bet of all those tips winning only gets you 1.01 for every dollar invested!

My Tips...
NZD v Italy - New Zealand
Aust v Japan - Australia
Eng v USA - England
The matches seem to mismatched for actual entertainment. Only the only opponent that plays test matches on a regular basis is Italy..... the rest are amateur players....
Bloody Frogs... looks like my France cup win tip wasn't so spot on...

Well, it was a nailbiter but we just managed to get over the line against the Japs 91-3.

Don't worrry too much about it, My tip Georgia isn't looking too good either....then again the only reason I picked them is because everytime I hear the name Georgia I get this uncontrollable urge to sing 'Geogia oh Geoooorgia' (to the tune of Rolling stones Angie).....and that's it:confused:.....then everyhing returns to normal (well as normal as it can be after that).

It's results like that that hardly promote the game world wide. Who in their right mind would enjoy watching their nation being smashed by a global heavyweight. There really should be two tiers to the world cup...Obviously the big guns fight it out in top tier, and the lesser nation s like Japan, USA, Namibia, Georgia can all have realistic entertaining close matches in a corresponding tournament.
yeh it was pretty funny game to watch, those poor Japanese players got flogged.
Who in our group will put up a half decent fight though? Wales, Fiji?

How ****en stupid is John Connolly and is Tuqiri the most overrated player to ever pull on the Aussie colours. Mitchell has been electric all world cup and he is sat for Tuqiri who hasn't even scored a try. As soon as Mitchell came on in the 60th his worried the English with his first possesion. Barnes had a shocker also as well as Gits not getting into the game as the Aussies would have liked. The scrum was atrocious as well, I just dislike Dunning for some reason.

My tip re Ireland was way off the mark.
However, my analysis of the Wallabies was spot on. Our scrum is shit, and our counter-rucking is non existant.
John Connoly should be sacked.
I agree with the anti Tiquiri comments. The "dark shark" is a goose - he brings a selfish and poisonous attitude to the squad. The "dark shark" is a typical rugby league convert in that he is crass without any hint of class. In many ways he reminds me of Des Headland - plays well against the minnows but cant justify his big pay packet in the big games.

You dislike him because he is shit.
Fat Matt is just not a world class loose head prop - that simple.
S14 is probably about as high as Fat Mat can go i think. He just doesnt have the strength to perform at the international level.
We need to get some props that are capable of giving good service on our scrums and are also capable of pressuring opposition feeds. For a start all of our props should be 6'2 plus and at least 120 kilos - the days of the short fat prop are gone - most of the good props are guys who were tall enough to play number 8 in juniors but then made the switch to prop late in their teens - eg. see sheridan for england, or hardy for Australia.

No doubt about it, the problem is there doesn't seem to be that talent coming through.
I can't wait to see David Pocock make an impact in the coming years.

I thought Pocock was a flanker?
Yeah there is not much talent coming through.
I think what the last 6 years show is that spending all this money on recruiting ex rugby league outside backs has been a waste of money. We have plenty of good outside backs in the system - what we need is some big guys in the front row.
The ARU really dropped the ball on this one. They should have been recruiting front rowers, not expensive ********s like Tiquiri. In the mid nineties the ARU recruited Noreiga across from Argentina - this was a great move, and he was an integral part of world cup winning team in 99. But since then the ARU has wasted money on guys like Walker, Tiquiri, Sailor, Rogers - not one of those guys has anything to offer. FFS the ARU was even thinking of going after Joey Johns - what a joke.
Gee how fortunate are the poms .. the best team in this and the last world cup were NZ. Granted they have a habit to choke but that would still be good enough to pulverise the poms. So what happens, we knock them out of he last semis and now the french knock them out of the quarters this time.
Gives poms another chance to win without beating the best of the tournament. After that win hope France do it, if you beat the best you deserve all the accolades !!

You are right about Pocock, I was just saying I can't wait to see a kid who I believe has HUGE potential make an impact at the higher level over the coming years. Unfortunately in the front row there doesn't look to be much out there.
I'm still filthy about the decision to bench Mitchell for Tuqiri, the guy is the most overrated sportsman in the world. The ARU should never have offered him the new huge contract, he is Sailor MKII. If the ARU wanna poach players from league they should follow the same sequence they did with Cross, go for players who have played the game before.
Hell I would have preferred Cameron Shepherd out wide last night instead of Tuqiri. Also Berrick Barnes was shown how inexperienced he still is, the guy still has a long way to go if Australia wants to be successful again.

Have to disagree here, if NZ were indeed the best in the world, then why did France beat them.
Credit, where it is due, to all the remaining teams. :thumbsu:

Ladies, for those of you who are still following the cup, what are you tips for the weekend?
England v France?
South Africa v Pumas?
I think the french and the boks will progress. But I would love to see the argentines beat the boks.

Its now hard to decide who you want to win. SAF or England? I hate them both equally. I think perhaps, SAF, they have always felt they deserve it, and have a similiar culture of working hard, whereas the England team will act like premadonnas for a couple of years if they win.
