He's got some tricks this kid!!! But i hope he isnt another Dean Rioli were he is injury prone all through his career. Dean had chronic Hamstring problems & Courtney has had all year & last season. He is still young so i hope he can overcome these hamstring problems, it would be a shame if it cuts his career short.

Jim Hird, Robert Harvey, Michael Voss....just a few guys to spend the majority of their first couple of years in the medical rooms.

He is still growing into his body, be patient and give him time.

The way Coutney moves on the field with his quick reflex side step he reminds me of a player who wore Number 13 for us several years ago!

He has me excited desipte our bleak immediate future. I think we have a good crop of kids coming through, but theres a massive chasm between our veterans and kids. We need much more from our 40-100 game group.

He was very good tonight. He really impressed me. With him, Gumby, Reimers and a few others, I'm looking forward to next season already.

Very classy apart from his kicking, knows where to be to get the ball and looked very fit. Was running all over the ground. By far the best thing to come out of the game.

Not wrong, think we're going to need to be quite patient for some time unfortunately.

Just one of those nights when he does his hammy again when playing the best game of his career.

At least Rioli could kick......
Dempsey has had the same problem for a long while. He simply struggles to hit targets on the run. He has done it all year in every practice match, VFL game and AFL game and he does it at training as well. Once he get going faster than half pace his kicking is very ordinary. Lets face it he had 7 kicks last night , two hit Richmond players inside 50, two landed in space inside 50 and not even close to the target and he kicked a point from 25 meters out.

It's a balance problem.

James Hird could hardly hit a target in his first couple of games. Once he has the experience to learn to use his body better and be balanced when he kicks he'll be fine. At the moment he stretches out too much at the point of impact which means his ball drop is more like a throw.

He's a class act, to see him run away from stoppages was something we haven't had for a long time. He takes the game on, he just going through a stage where he is trying to do things his body isn't ready for.

It may well be a balance thing but it is still a problem and has been a problem all year when he has been playing. It has also been an issue at training when he hasnt been under pressure.

You would think he has two things to do ovver summer.

1. Get his body right.
2. Practice kicking on the run at pace.

He is young -we just need him to work on it.

Loved watching his burst work from the packs.

he kicked a point from 25 meters out.

Bit harsh, he did do his hammy as he kicked the ball.

Hopefully once he's able to train and play more than 1 week in ten his kicking will settle down. Bloody hell he can be exciting though.

He's played what, four years of footy?

He showed way too much class last night to suggest that with more time in the game his short-comings won't improve.

Factoring his lack of senior experience, I think he showed he was prepared to use what he currently has to the best of his ability. Big tick from me first game back.

Reminded me very much of Peter Matera the way he came clear of stoppages.

ANT555- you have strongly criticised his kicking and fair enough on what i saw last night. Unfortuanetly I cannot get to many bendigo games to give my opinion, but you mentioned yourself about his lack of game time would you think fatigue plays a part in his inability to finish? (and yes I believe players can fatigue early in a game).

Shouldn't of played - if he injured his hammy that easily he was obviously not ready enough for the speed of AFL.

Longy is on the money with his kicking - He needs to install an ABS system on those legs because he's just running too fast to get good timing from ball drop to foot.

As far as playing not much footy goes if you have a look at the Dempsey thread in bomber spotting i raised the conern about him playing and doing a hammy again in that thread. Yes i do think he was going to be underdone. He had had two part games back from an extended lay off. I wouldnt be surprised at all if he was fatigued.
The main reason i have been so critical of his kicking is becasue it is the same problem i have seen all year. His kicking problems had been noticed by a few of us who have been doing the training reports for BB very early in the pre season and i have seen KS giving him advice on his kicking everytime he has been able to train without injury.
If last nights game was a lone event as far as his kicking goes i wouldnt have worried too much. It is the fact that he has struggled with it pre season, during practice match's during VFL games and now at AFL level that is the main concern for me. Whatever the problem is it needs to be sorted.

Dempsey was brilliant...:thumbsu:apart from the disposal which was horrible..

Haven't seen much of Gumby but watching him yesterday & wasn't impressed at all. Was trying to look out for him and was hoping to see something that would justify his early draft pick but to be honest, i can't recall a single good thing he did.:thumbsd:

I know he's only played a couple of games but surely he's got more to offer than what i saw yesterday. Someone please tell me he just had a bad game and has been much better than that?!?!

Correct. Last week he had I think 6 marks by halftime before he dropped away in the second half. But it showed exactly why we picked him.

Cetainly wasn't having a dig appreciate your BB reports greatly as it is the only in depth summary available to people that cannot make the game. Thats a bit of a slur on both the BB and EFC websites as i'm sure all supporters are very interested to get a full run down on how the younger players are developing.

Let's just hope Dempsey is able to improve his kicking cos his ability to break from stoppages could become very damaging.
