View Full Version : If West Coast are to have Any say in the Final this year this bloke needs to play
Chad Fletcher, week in week out.
He adds extra run to a tired midfield. Is a certified ball magnet with a big body. Kicks well to a leading player and has semi-decent hands in close.
His game in the GF last year showed how damaging he could be, and unlike most of you I feel better for each game that he plays.
I like the way he goes about his game and is a good endurance runner.
So, if Embley, Kerr, Cousins and Judd are back is it Priddis or Fletcher?

I like Fletcher, very good player. 2006 aside, he's been excellent for us. I just think that with our abundance of midfielders he struggled with the rotations last year, and injuries this year have made him the forgotten man in our fabulous midfield. He's not capable of playing HF or HB or in a tagging role, but is still an excellent midfielder.
Play him through the centre and he adds a lot to our side.
I'm with you Trumpy :thumbsu:
Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Stengein, Priddis, Embley, Braun, Rosa, Fletcher, Butler
Next year is going to be a bitch to the midfield selectors.
With hurn, selwood and macnamara (eventually) coming in every now and then.

Agreed.
He was brilliant in last years Grand Final after his form was questioned.
Great hands and foot skills in close and under pressure.
Required to be firing :)
As long as we dont play him as a half forward flanker we dont have to worry. Thats when his form slumped. When we moved him out of the midfield and up forward
Keep him in the midfield this time and let him use his great in-tight ball winning ability to get us to the big one.

Now I have a lot of time for Fletcher, so dont get me wrong I am not a "hater". However I think a lot of people have forgotten that last years GF is in fact the only final he has ever played well in and his disposal is often woeful! There were a lot of times last year when his head was called for as often as Rojo's!
Apart from those facts, Fletcher is suffering groin pain similar to Judds, so he is not really in a position to suddenly turn it on in the finals. He has only played eight games this year because of injury/ form, yet you think he is going to be the difference in our finals campaign?
We are in more trouble than I thought if that is the case.:o

very good as an outside rover
great at putting the ball inside 50
CAUSE FOR CONCERN

if he doesnt stand up with over 20 good disoposals over the next few weeks before we get kerry back its not looking good imo... him, priddis, braun, stinger and cousins all need to put in mammoth efforts to destroy the bomber and quell the power next week...

Fletcher is a handy player to have, but Priddis is a much better in and under player.
They bring different things to the side. With Judd out, Priddis is much more valuable than Fletcher.

I'd pick Wooden ahead of Fletcher.
I'd pick Wooden ahead of Fletcher.
HAHAHA :D good one.
Fletch is a very handy extra midfielder. because of injuries he has had to stand up and coming back from injury isnt helping.
He has the abiltity to get 30+ possies in any game.
He, Brauny and Cuzz wil have to fire this weekend if we are looking for that % booster we need.
Just posted this in another thread.....
Since Benny has been back we have won 5 out of 6 games which is with Cuzzy, Judd, Kerr, Fletch and other stars missing!!
We should at the very least reach the Preliminary Final. if that is a "BAD" year for us then thats a great sign for us.
Saying that, we're in it and we can win it. We just need our full team to stay together for a month... PLEASE FOOTY GODS

I will say it again
No one should compare Flecther to Cousins Kerr and Judd...hes compared to them because he made AA one year
hes a solid AFL player, good endurance.....will try his guts out all day and will be syill going in the 4th...he must play as hes in our best 22....

I'm a fan of Fletcher, finds plenty of the pill, good workrate, and good lateral movement & skill in congestion. Had a good 06 GF, and in all honesty had a pretty good 05 GF too, apart from one incident where he bounced the ball and left it behind.
I think he sometimes suffers because he's a 'pure' midfielder, he doesn't adapt well to defensive and forward-line roles that he sometimes has to fill because of our midfield depth.
Priddis>>>>>>>>>>>Fletcher
What he said.
Or part of. :)

There's room for both of them, even with Embley, Cousins, Judd and Kerr all playing. In the finals last year both Butler and Fletcher played along with the core four.
