View Full Version : Draft not far away
What are your priorities for the draft?
Ruckman, midfielder, KP forward/defender, small forward, utility etc

Quality Midfielders & a KKP, specifically a Fullback IMO. There's were we are lacking the most.

A backup ruckman would be handy. if JLo doesnt recover from his injury we will have only 2 genuine ruckmen on our list.

Pacy midfielders, a full back and maybe a ruckman in that order

Chris Masten you'd think ;)
Bugger KPP...not many in this draft....
I think Freo need to reposition Muprhy as a Full Back (if he doesn't get traded). i know we tried him as a CHB with limitd success a year or 2 ago, but he wasn't given a good crack at it. Has skills, bit of aggro about him (when he wants to)...I think Harvs may turn this man into a very good Full Back.
Maybe a late pick with a smoky KPP?
Otherwise all picks must centre on fast midfielders or just fast players with skills...
...the next Alwyn Davey/Leroy Jetta would be nice

I like this Idea :thumbsu:. If he is playing FB next season a bit more bulk over the pre-season would help

If we want midfielders - Masten or Palmer (one should last til 1st pick).
If we want quick midfielders - Rioli (wont last til 2nd rounder).
If we want KP defender - Rance or Pears (both wont last til 2nd rounder).
This draft isnt deep, would love another top 20 pick to get 2 of these guys. If Spud wants to go then trade him, his value is still good. If he has another so-so year his value starts to slide. Kiwi is just as good anyways.

When Murphy has been trialled in the backline he was constantly beaten to the ball. That is, he was too slow to keep up with his man, and was outmarked on the lead. He has the same problem as a forward, as well as other problems mostly that look related to work ethic. The only thing that I like about the idea of him being played in the backline is that it is much harder to get away with that.

At CHB mobility is more important and so doesnt suit Murphy. But to combat gorrilla CHF like Gherig and Johnathon Brown we need bigger bodies at FB. If we dont trade Murphy we might as well give him a second chance in the pre-season and trial him at FF.

I don't think we need to worry about the gorilla forwards too much. Most of them are retiring soon (Neitz, Gehrig, Lloyd, Fev maybe when he gets slow, who else??) and modern teams don't seem to go for that. We should make do or trade for a recycled player or retrain a forward. Don't waste a high draft pick. There aint many out there the calibre of Glass with size and pace.
Murphy turns like a battleship and has done since his early few games in defence. His work as a forward has been as an old fashioned dunstall/lloyd type who runs in straight lines. His overhead marking is not that strong.

there will always be room for the gorilla forward, i think johnathon brown will end up a gorrilla full forward, and im sure there are power forwards out there just waiting to be unleashed

A midfielder who is good at clearances.another midfielder then another.I dont believe we need a fullback as we have enough defenders.

Have to agree with that. There are ALWAYS big boys out there that are big, can kick goals and run blokes down like a steamroller.... Hence some teams will go for the Gorilla Forward... The seem to get better with age as well which is an advantage...
If we had a chance to get a Brown type I'm sure we'd all be saying "GET HIM"!!!....
Is not Pavlich heading towards a Gorilla Forward when he gets a bit older??!??

We already have a doughnuts!
Murphy was dubbed "doughnuts" by his team-mates after his debut because his stats sheet read 0 0 0 0 0 0. True story.
A fruitcake with no nuts? I'll let that one go...
