Essendon player Adam Ramanauskas's bravery in twice beating cancer to return to the AFL has earned him a unique honour from the head of a group of war veterans synonymous with courage.
Rats of Tobruk federal president Murry Burles, 85, yesterday spoke to the Bombers team before training.
He presented Ramanauskas with a plaque bearing a map of Tobruk, as it was during the famous World War II siege.
Burles, who served in Tobruk as an 18-year-old, praised Ramanauskas's courage and said he would be the first person he would choose to fight alongside him in the trenches.
The veteran chose to present the Bombers player with the one-off plaque, despite being a life member of the Kangaroos. -hs
Congratulations to Rama.
That is a massive honour/award to be given.
He deserves it,and it's something that will keep him going regardless of the issues life may bring him (touch wood, nothing like this again).
I'm sure he is a big inspiration to the team and fans.
Well done Rama! :thumbsu:
