I was studying our list and geeez it is quality
Listen to this:
Forward Line
Fev, Fisher, Kennedy, Houlihan
Centre
Stevens, Carrazzo, Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs, Jackson, Walker
Backline
O'Hailpin, Thornton, Jamison, Waite, Scotland
Ruck
Hampson, Kruezer, Cloke
+ The additions of possible solid players in Anderson, Hartlett
++ Whichever player we pick up with #3 this year
We have the best young spine in the league, we have a core group of about 15 players also which cant be beaten
Next year we will finish at 10-11th, at time we will be in the finals hunt but i dont think we will make them
then in 2009 we will make the 8 in position 5-8th
Then 2010 should be a year of top 4 and a real crack at the flag
2010 - sounds while away, butt, Walker will still be 24, Murphy 23, Gibbs 22, Kennedy 23, Simpson 26, Carazzo 26, Fev 29 (Peak), Kreuzer 21 - 22
Good times ahead fellas - this is our last year of draft picks

God I hope that is true, but if we finish 10-11th next year, imagine the outrage:
We would only get pick 6 or 7 that way! Not high enough! Must lose more games!

As much as we all are excited about our young fellas - it's a bit too early to be saying our list is quality.
Of course it's all good to analyse and think about what it CAN be... but lets not forget where we are that the current stage.
I hope Gilly doesn't see this thread.

please don't buy into this and have a 20 page thread about whther or not this is true...

I don't know whether I should respond to this... but I have to for my own piece of mind.
The only way Pagan brought young talent into our team is by taking us to 2 wooden spoons and 2 15th placed posi giving us a crack at some good low picks. Pagan didn't have full control of whom we selected that was not his job.
If Pagan was still coach do you think we would of seen Hampson, Grigg, Austin, Jamison play this year, or even Bower get a bit more of a run?
We now know that with Hampson, Jamison, Grigg and Bower we have four more kids with uploads of potential, selling to us supporters that next year we have a bit more depth and something to look forward to.
We have a coach now that hopefully sees Houlihan as a forward (was it not great seeing him playing forward again), we have a game plan and some sort of tactics in play... instead of mmmm this seems to be working so lets use this game plan for half a season.
Pagan was not the right coach for our team... he would have done wonders for another mob for us he just didn't get the best out of our group.

i am gonna ignore the coach section cos that could be used on a different thread. not this one. PLEASE. but yeah the core group of our team is looking very good. I am very excited for the future. even though we didnt get anywhere this year i can see us on the rise. CARLTON PREMIERS one of 09,10,11?

very possibly as Pagan would often give players a run in the last couple of games to se where they were at. i really think the argument that Pagan didn't play enough kids is weak. also the arguments that he played them out of position or he left them on the bench to long were very weak arguments and would not stand up to any reasonable analysis.

all we have to sell to our supporters is about 10 losses in a row and more priority picks. not to mention an unproven coach.

there are always going to be things you disagree with regarding the coach of the day. Is that really the best u can come up with to criticse Pagan?

would any other coach have done better?
Dennis Pagan 4 wins in 2007
Brett Ratten 0

Let it go...........everyone can see pagan was past it; he was a DUD. Thankfully there was a reward for his pathetic coaching

Can any of you seriously comprehend Carlton challenging for a top 4 spot and a premiership in 2009? Really? In 2 seasons time?
LMAO
Carazzo is the only young player who has taken big strides forward this season as well as small improvements from Waite and Walker.
Your forward line looks pretty good with Waite, Fevola and Fisher up there. The midfield looks reasonable with Scotland, Carazzo, Stevens, Simpson, etc. The ruck department is downright pathetic. Cackland, Cloke and O'Hailpin have all had plenty of opportunities at AFL level but all look disinterested and uncommited.
The term 'backline' is a relatively new one at AFL/VFL level: in fact, its only been around for 150 odd years. Carlton obviously need a few more wooden spoons before they can understand this phenomenon and the need to have key position backmen.
I would like to see Carlton doing well for a change, especially to annoy Eddie McGuire but I just can't see it happening in this current climate.

Listen up you patronising dill! I told you before when we want your opinion on our great club we will ask for it.
What part of the term 'bugger off' don't you understand?

Cackland, Cloke and O'Hailpin have all had plenty of opportunities at AFL level but all look disinterested and uncommited.Aside from the fact you are trolling, you are also lack a fundamental knowledge about our players. Ackland I grant you. Cloke was extremely committed until he was injured, a real go getter early this season. Now comes the funniest thing I have ever read on BigFooty .... O'hAilpin looks disinterested? LMFAO. Probably the most passionate player in the AFL right now, he pumps his fist when he gets a spoil in, let alone what he does when he gets a goal.
Let me send you some cash, get on the phone, get three quotes and go buy yourself a clue!!!

Thus the recruiting of Austin, Hartlett and Bower and the elevation of Jamison. Sorry they are not overnight stars but don't think for a second that we are still ignoring the defence.

carltons list next season will be as promising as any going round
Fevola, Walker, Gibbs, Murphy, Hampson, thornton, kennedy, Kruezer (most likely), grigg, waite, betts, simpson, carrazo, and whoever u get with pick 3 - is a group of young men with definite ability.
next season carlton should be looking at a minimum of 7 wins - but more importantly no big blow outs - no performances that make these kids start thinking " shit - we still can't do this"
they must regain the ability to believe that carltons glorious past - is just not that - the past.
carlton are endanger of becoming a st.kilda or a bulldogs - teams with undoubted talented youth and potential - but issues with belief.
7 wins with losses of 5-6 goals or less is a stepping stone and something which should be very very realistic.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

i know you didn't mean any offence but i don't think we are in any danger at all off becoming like those teams. We didn't underachieve this year. We have one of the least developed lists in the competition and performed acordingly. In a couple of years time we will be fine
