Apparently Mike Love has full rights to the name 'The Beach Boys' for his band. The 41st anniversary of the band has brought this news officially. It's actually been unofficially so since 1998.
Brian Wilson is now just Brian, and Al Jardine is just Al. Mike Love and his party are 'The Beach Boys'. Just to clarify this for anyone who didn't know.
In other news, it appears John Stamos is no longer part of the band. This is rumoured to be due to his disgraceful TV movie about the band, however it's just more likely he woke up. :D LOL

What next? Will Tony Danza replace him.

Worse than that......it's a cover band that thinks it's the real thing. :D

Lioness,
You didn't respond in the thread below.
I'm looking to buy some different CD's and I'm willing to get some Beach Boys.
That is, as long as it is not the high-pitched screaching surf's-up happy horsescheize. In a post not long ago, you mentioned they had recorded some "serious" stuff other than the genre in which they are known popularly. If you'll recommend the album, I'll buy it and proffer up an honest appraisal.
If it's just one or two songs mixed in with their more ordinary work, recommend the best album, and specifically mention the numbers I should listen for. Thanks,
Mooster

Wooooohoooooo Mooster - you won't regret this. :D
Okies I have a few suggestions.......
Wild Honey (1967) - Probably their first departure from their trademark sound. Very raw R&B. Highlights: 'Wild Honey' (my signature song :D) 'Aren't You Glad', 'Country Air', 'Darlin', 'Here Comes The Night'
Oh and this is my fave album aside from Pet Sounds. :D
*Most likely you will come across the 2-for set, b/w 'Smiley Smile', ignore that album for the most part, lol
Sunflower/Surf's Up (1970/1971) - GET THE TWO-FER!!!!! This is possibly the Beach Boys at their non-commercial finest!!!! Occasional harmony warning. :p
Higlights from Sunflower: 'Slip On Through', 'This Whole World', 'Forever', 'Cool Cool Water'
Highlights from Surf's Up: 'Feel Flows', 'Til I Die', 'Surf's Up'
I'll finish this later............... :)

Thanks,
I've written all that down. I finally nabbed a couple of days off and will do some shopping. Armed with this list, I can do "guy shopping." Head straight in, get what I want and be out in ten minutes - enroute somewhere else for another surgical purchasing strike.
Go ahead and make any other recommendations. For the time being, I'll start with 'Wild Honey' and the 'Sunflower/Surfs Up.' I'll be completely honest. If they are half good, I'll take back half the bad things I've said about the BB's. If they are really good, I'll champion all your BB posts. Deal? Jeez, I hope it doesn't come to that. ;) :D Peace,

You have yourself a deal my friend. :D
I actually think these albums are pretty awesome too, maybe even more so than the Sunflower/Surf's Up combo:
Carl and the Passions - So Tough/Holland (1972/73) - the former is very gospel-like, very un-Beach Boys but fantastic. Highlights: 'Marcella', 'Hold On Dear Brother', 'All This Is That'.
The latter is a real gem of an album, avoid the Fairy Tale at the end though!!!!! Highlights: 'Sail On Sailor', 'Trader', 'Leaving This Town'.
20/20 (1969) - Very nice little album, few surprises included. Highlights: 'I Can Hear Music', 'Be With Me', 'Never Learn Not To Love' (slightly re-written Charles Manson ditty, formerly known as 'Cease To Exist'.), 'Cabinessence'.
There is also a hits package I would recommend if you get totally stuck:
Greatest Hits Vol 3 - The Brother Years - a wrap up of highlights of their 70s albums. Pretty good line up.

"Darlin, I've got to get you off of my pretty girl list ..."
PS: John Stamos? Good Lord.

So if this 'band' tours Australia, will Daryl Somers be the replacement drummer?

To be totally honest, with this band, any one of us may be chosen. :D
