Friday Night in Adelaide opens the finals with the only all interstate clash of the first week. The prize at the end is massive; a HOME Preliminary Final.

For the home side Dean Brogan is in doubt with a knee problem and Adam Thomson won't be recalled after getting KO'ed in the SANFL last weekend. Judd and Embley are very likely starters but the Friday Night timeslot may well keep Hansen out for another week.

Last time the sides met the Power thumped the Eagles by 91 points, but expect the margin to be a LOT closer this time around. This is the first time that these 2 sides have met in a finals match.

TIP: Port Adelaide by 15 points.

What the hell. They both get a 2nd chance so as long as it's a good game and not a blow out! West Coast will need to bring their A game to win but it's far from impossible! Freo showed what a little pressure can do last week!

The optomist in me is hoping that Port's luck has run out :o

Port won both rounds 20 and 21 with a handful of seconds to spare, and were given a real fright at home by a Dockers team missing fully half of their first 18. It took some last-quarter Farmer brainfades and Burgoyne magic to get the margin back out again.

Of course the Eagles were pretty poor themselves on the weekend...but with the calibre of players returning, I'm hoping we get up by 8 points :thumbsu:

Apparently the consensus in Adelaide is that it will be a walkover. Port are happy they got West Coast.
As long as we dont get thumped like last time, then im not too fussed.
A win would be pretty darn nice though!

surely you've got to be taking the piss.... no one on the port board thinks that it's going to be a walkover. as far as being happy that we play west coast, well it doesn't matter which team you play at the end of the day as long as you play finals football.

I don't mind if they feel that way. I'd rather the actual team felt that way though. Port can be as complacent as they want. But, do it at their own peril!

My initial feeling about this game was that it was the worst possible situation for West Coast to play away.
But thinking about it, West Coast were embaressed last time, and they will want to set the record Straight.
West Coasts home form has been shaky this year, so a final away may do them good.
Time to seperate the men from the boys.
Port have been one of the form sides of the competition, (and they beat the form side) and in saying that, I think at home will be just a little too strong for West Coast.

It won't be by 91 points i assure you though.
West Coast will get close, but port by 9 points for mine.

A biased prediction ;) It would indeed be a blessing if Port won, assuming Adelaide escape unscathed over the next couple of weeks (which is possible - Hawthorn and Kangaroos is your likely path to a Showdown with Port).

Port really should win this, but as always finals are a different ball game and West Coast didn't finish 3rd for nothing. Can Port stand up to the pressure? I think they can, Port by 16 points.

It would be better for the Crows if you lost. If we manage to win the elimination and then the semi we'll face the winner of Friday night's game. As you know all too well you're our bogey side so please, just lay down and do the right thing by the Crows. ;) :p

Seriously good luck, if it means we have to go through you to get to the Grand Final then so be it (although I'd rather we met IN the Grand Final).

4 Sep 2007, 23:59
At this stage I'd put Port as warm favorites. They've had some good results and form running into the finals, and seem to have settled well. They'll have plenty of confidence, and if they can start well then they could blow it open early.

WC, on the other hand, have had to drag themselves out of a poor slump in form, and as much as they've done well to win some crucial games, they really are starting to look tired. That last quarter against the Bombers was a case in point - everything to play for but simply not enough juice left in the tank - they just stopped. With that and some serious injury concerns to key players, I can't say I'd have a great deal of confidence. Strangely enough, I'd probably give them a better chance around the semi/grand final rounds, with the return of some players. Even then, they haven't displayed anything like the consistency of previous years.

So, having said all that, I think Port will get up by a margin of between 20-30pts, though it could still be close up until about half-way through the last.

If Q Train kicks at least 4 goals from his 15 shots on goal, Ben runs 100km, Glass destroys whoever he plays on, Rowan Jones dishes out 38 handballs and kicks 3 goals from his 4 kicks, Chad Fletcher has less than 10 turnovers and Chris Judd can bend over far enough to nearly touch his knees, we should be in with a shot of knocking off Port. The Eagles have always been best when the odds are against them!

I cant see any reason at all why we cant win this one by a similar margin to the last game between us at AAMI. It is obvious that the Eagles just cant match up to us, I dont know why; and I dont care to be honest. I just want to see us really put them to the sword at AAMI again.

Port easy, 40+

Embley & Judd are underdone, Lynch can kick 5 or 6, he probably will on Thurstans but we should be able to close most other scoring avenues. Glass will goto Westhoff and Tredrea will run amok in the first half. Cousins will get Kane Cornes and wont be able to touch the footy, Chad will walk around the ground and do as he pleases. Brogan will sit in the hole in the def 50, Lade will give the eagles defence all sorts of problems. Wirrapunda cant play on both Ebert and Motlop, will probably get dizzy swapping back and forth between them all night. TBH i'd be just as confident of beating them in Perth, the fact its in Adelaide just gives us that extra 10%. We also have about 180 finals experiance between our preferred 22, including about a dozen premiership players, so its not like we dont have players who cant or know what playing finals is about.

Just a few pointers:
1) Hunter will play on tredrea. hunter has been poor this year, but had arguably his best game for 07 in the first 2 quarters of last week. He will run the old man off his legs.
2) Wirra will play on Motlop or else he'll play in the forward line. Chick or Staker are most likely to take Ebert.
The rest of your post is pretty subjective, so I won't bother trying to rebut.
If Priddis, Embley, Judd and Selwood pull up okay I will be more confident. It won't matter which midfielder Kane tags, the others will dominate. Embley and Selwood are our keys for this game I believe. Selwood to take either S.Burgoyne and may get moved onto Chad if he gets too much of it.

I know 2 hours zomg!!!!12

I can't wait, i really hope we are going to play competitively, decision making is the key here, last time we played them we made crap decisions and executed like crap also.

Too true! I'm sure they'll be very eager to make ammends for that game, and there could be no better opportunity to shut up the knockers by doing it in a final! This is gonna be the longest 2 hours!!!:thumbsu:

West Coast to be down by 30 pts at the main break, kick 8 goals to 4 in the 3rd quarter and storm home to win by 17 pts :D Chicky to rack up 17 mad man tackles , Cox to tear Brogan a new one, Staker will kick 4 goals and glassy to snap the Hoff in Half.
