View Full Version : Cotchin V Ebert V Masten V Palmer
I don't know much about this year's draft picks, partly because I assumed that finishing so low we would get someone quality with pick two regardless.
However it seems from the talk on bigfooty, there is a group of standouts of about six players, added with the best ruck option and possibly best option in Kruezer and the best tall prospect (non-ruckman IMO if Richmond can't get Kruezer it wont got for a ruck) in Morton (is that true BTW?)
Besides that two there's four midfielders which are constantly brought up as possible top five midfielders. Since Richmond has the second pick, I'm just curious to find out what everyone thinks is the best midfielder possible. So I propose a vote, to see what the bigfooty collective thinks is the best.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

West Coast recruiting manager said that Cotchin was the best available mid
I will go with him, he has a good record.

Cotchin has conventionally been rated the highest, but all four bring such different things to the table that it's hard to compare them.
The way I have them ranked is purely on who I think is the better player. Once I know the final draft order, then that may change a little. However, just on ability, I have them in this order:
Cotchin
Masten
Palmer
Ebert

Guess that makes Melbourne the losers. :thumbsu:

Wrong poll lads, you missed out on the likely number 2 pick, Mc Evoy from the Murray Bushrangers. Do your research before posting!!!

I rate Palmer a better performer than Cotchin...
I rate Kruzer as overated... hyped up by the media. He is a very good junior player but not a big game performer.

Hmm.
is it true that Masten is averaging about 10 touches a game in the wafl the last month or so..whereas palmer is averaging above 20?

Masten is suffering form some OP and probably a long season with AIS duties and is being nursed through games (probably getting 40-50% game time). Check out the early season form in the WAFL and I think you'll find a different story.

Where is it carved in stone that carlton won't take Cotchin at number 1?
I cousin is mates with a Richmond's recruiter who said Tigers want kruezer and failing that Morton.

It was in no particular order, I just happened to type Kreuzer first then Cotchin second. The post was merely having a dig at the melbourne supporter who posted......

Should Morton be included in this discussion?
I was under the impression that he is a potential top 4 pick.

it's not just you anyway, everyone seems to have decided kruezer is the no 1 pick. Carlton might not actually see it that way

once again, aint a midfielder.
i actually wudnt mind to having rhys palmer down at carlton, although there are other classy players, he brings a bit of flare and excitement. its like dancing, sure the ballet is great and skillful, but you'd rather be watchin a break-dance comp or somethin like that.
cotchin is unreal and skillful and all, but id rather watch palmer.

There are plenty who would - My concern with him for Carlton would be that with guys like Gibbs, Scotland and Houlihan, you probably have enough of that sweeper-type player, which is really where Morton is likely to be most effective. Even a guy like Bower is likely to play a role similar to that of Morton.
A guy like Cotchin, Masten or Palmer will be able to play right in the thick of it in the midfield, which might make them a better choice.
I really see Morton going to Melbourne with their first pick, because they've got guys like McLean, Jones, Bartram and Petterd to do the meat-and-potatoes type midfield work, and Morton just fits in as the cream on their cake.
EDIT: I realise I mixed food metaphors there - Meat, potatoes, cream and cake DO NOT go together.

Great post VV, I agree with everything you said - aside from the meat and cream..yummy
Morton would be a great pick-up for Melbourne.

Cotchin has plenty of tricks and X-factor - he's worth the price of admission alone. His uncanny ability to win the contested ball AND burst into space and deliver the ball with class is a joy to watch. Tough gig this year for those with early picks...

No, just research from Hughes' awful draft picks of recent years other then the most obvious ones as in the top 3.
You snap very easy.

Anyone who thinks Richmond would draft another midfielder or HFF ahead of Kreuzer is in denial.
Richmond will turn Cotchin into another Tambling or Meyer if they draft him.
This might be the reason for the rumour the Tigers want to draft Morton, their development of midfielders is the worst in the AFL and pathetic.
It must suck to miss out on the player you desperately need.
It's Lance Franklin all over again. :)

Polo is a gun if you bag him you have NFI.
Thats about right actually.
Pattison was thrown to the wolves when he was clearly not ready to be number 1 ruck and held he's own.
McGuane is a gun and better then any young KPD Carlton has, Tambling is improving with each game and Casserly is all class, just can't get on the park.
Hughes and JON I wouldn't throw in the scrap heap but the other two suck.
If anything that post showed nothing but you're extreme ignorance and lack of knowlede.
That sums you up really though.:thumbsu:

You haven't got Cotchin yet and we haven't got Kreuzer yet we could draft Cotchin instead of Kreuzer or you could draft Morton instead of Cotchin... Hold your horses buddy!
Now do you understand? Or are you going to type up another idiotic rubbish like comment saying "dribble, dribble, dribble, I'm glad we have Cotchin, he's better than Kreuzer, dribble, dribble, dribble" etc. etc.

Following Richmond is no reflection of your intelligence, but it is an indication of your spitting ability :)
You are trying to already bag Kruezer. Would love to see you choke on your words if you end up picking him. We're happy for you to get Cotchin if it means we get Kruezer. Keep trying to console yourself in your deluded mind that Richmond will be getting the real number 1 pick. HA! :D
