Akhtar hits teammate with bat

COACH Geoff Lawson and Pakistan's Twenty20 World Cup management is investigating a bust-up between fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

"There has been an incident between Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif and the team management are carrying out an investigation," said media manager Dr Ehsan Malik overnight.

"The result will be known tomorrow morning."

A team source said that during a heated argument between the two players in the nets, at the squad camp in Benoni, Akhtar had hit Asif on his thigh with a bat.

"It developed into a serious altercation and got out of control before the captain, manager and coach intervened," said the source, who declined to be identified.

Pakistan, which arrived in Johannesburg from Nairobi overnight after winning a four-nation tournament, is in Group D of the Twenty20 World Cup with India and Scotland.

Asif. And don't be surprised if Yousuf finds himself back into the test team ICL or not, yet the weaker players won't.

He should be kicked out of the team, permanently.
This is the shit that frustrates me with the Pakis, so much ability but they waste it and do stuff like this (I know they aren't all as bad as Shoaib, but they have a history of off-field crap).
Asif is ten times the bowler Akhtar ever was.

Mohammed asif?

Yes I was employing a pun even if it is Shoaib who will be going on. Neither should be playing for other reasons anyway.,

Akhtar Apologises

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has apologised for the actions which caused him to be sent home from the World Twenty20.
The 32-year-old's involvement in the inaugural tournament in South Africa ended on Friday - four days before the start of the competition - following a dressing-room spat with team-mate Mohammad Asif.
Shoaib, nicknamed the 'Rawalpindi Express', clashed with his fellow fast bowler in Johannesburg on Thursday after a training session during which heated words were exchanged.
A remorseful Shoaib told NDTV: "I am feeling very bad. Sometimes you do things in a fit of temper.
"I will explain the situation to everyone and apologise. I am sorry to all seniors, colleagues and fans. This happened and I am very sorry for that.
"I am human, I made a mistake in the heat of the moment. Two minutes of bad temper has ruined my chance of getting back into the team.
"Whatever happened was not intentional. I will call a press conference and apologise for my actions."
Shoaib, who was looking to establish himself back in the Pakistan side after having a drugs ban overturned, went on to ask the press to portray events in a kind light.
He insisted he had been provoked in the same way France captain Zinedine Zidane had been by Marco Materazzi to earn a red card in the football World Cup final last year.
"There is a lot of media hype. Everything I do makes news for them," Shoaib continued.
"I request the media not to make me look like a villain. It is very upsetting that I won't be playing in the Twenty20 World Cup.
"Asif said something that made me lose my cool. I apologised to Asif at the time but I am very upset.
"It's something similar to what happened with Zidane in the World Cup."
However, despite having been sent home, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf claims the player could face further sanctions.
Ashraf said: "Once he returns further disciplinary action will be taken. This is disgraceful and cannot be condoned at all."
Earlier, PCB chief executive Shafqat Nagmi confirmed the news that Shoaib was to be sent home to news channel Times Now.
He said: "A decision has been taken to call back Shoaib on the basis of an initial inquiry by the touring team management in South Africa."
The decision was met with approval from a host of former Pakistan stars, who believe he has let the country down.
Waqar Younis told news channel CNN-IBN: "Harsh punishments have to be given to Shoaib. Anyone behaving like this should not be in the team. His act has brought shame to the team and the nation."
Rameez Raja, now a cricket commentator, added: "Both the players are the temperamental type.
"But this behaviour is not acceptable. I don't see him playing in the immediate future for Pakistan. I don't think he will get much support from the fans as well - people seem to be tired of his tantrums."
Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail believes the PCB had no option but to take a firm stance with Shoaib.
He told Geo News: "Any player behaving in such a manner was detrimental to Pakistan's image.
"Shoaib Akhtar has also been involved in conflicts and such behaviour in the past, but the team management had failed to correctly handle such matters."
Mohammad Sami has been tipped as a likely replacement for Shoaib in the Twenty20 squad. Pakistan begin their Group D campaign in Durban against Scotland on Wednesday.

I dont think we will see him in international cricket again, so much disunity in Pakistan cricket in generel but this effort has gone way too far for him to work witht the team.

An individual is one thing but to attack the team is another.

Shoaib blames Afridi but Afridi has denied this and accused him of lying saying that Asif should be consulted. Shoaib also blaming Pak media for blowing it out of all proportion.

Pakistan Pleased Hothead Is Gone

KARACHI, September 11 (ICC World Twenty20) - Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf claims the national squad are "relieved" at the decision to send Shoaib Akhtar home from the ICC World Twenty20.
The 32-year-old's involvement in the South Africa-hosted event ended last Friday following a dressing-room spat with team-mate Mohammad Asif during which he is alleged to have hit Asif with a bat.
The incident has cast a cloud over Pakistan's preparation for the Twenty20 tournament, which starts on Tuesday, but Ashraf believes it has brought the players closer together.
He told The News newspaper: "I've talked to some of the players and officials (of the Pakistan team) and they all feel relieved.
"They feel that a huge burden has been lifted off their shoulders. It was an unfortunate incident, there is no doubt about it.
"But it hasn't dented our team's confidence at all. All the players are fully motivated and are looking forward to winning the Twenty20 World Cup."
Ashraf also rejected suggestions PCB chief executive officer Shafqat Naghmi's recent trip to South Africa had anything to do with the investigation into the incident.
He said: "There is no truth in it. We have said that the inquiry will start after the tournament. Shafqat Naghmi has just gone to South Africa to attend an ICC meeting.
"I believe those with a vested interest are trying to make use of the situation. They are spreading baseless rumours. All I can say is that any further action against Shoaib will only be taken after an inquiry."
Pakistan begin their World Twenty20 campaign against Scotland at Durban on Wednesday.
