Gooooooooood weekend. :thumbsu:
Oh no! But what about the `dream prelim'????
What do you mean the Crows had to win two games to get to it?
What do you mean they lost the first one?
Oh.

That was ****ing fantastic.

On even more of an upside, anchors/season ticket holders are probably going to be able to buy 2 prelim tickets each now.

Do you think crows home loans got into the subprime lending market? The corporation's stock took a hit today.;)
I remember coming home on the train after the Collingwood pre-lim and having Crow fans stand by the side of the track jeering us, holding signs and the like.
Very very tempted to return the favour.

Why?

Geelong are the best team out there. I'd rather face Geelong after we've had the week off and they haven't in a prelim. then in the GF. Unless they go out in straight sets we're going to have to beat them sometime to win the flag and it's the match I most want stacked in our favour.
That said, the Roos in a GF is not exactly a pickernick basket either.
Whereas Geelong in a GF has headcase history.
So really, whatever happens it'll be about the same for us, IMO.
Brilliant weekend for South Australian football. :thumbsu:

Delighted with today's result. |Although I'm sure we could and would have beat them in a PF if it came to that, this way there are so many plusses for us.
1. The run-up to OUR home PF won't be all about Adelaide.
2. Port people will actually be able to come to the game. (And sorry, AFL, but I'd much rather a few empty seats than a stadium full of cowpeople.)
3. It will be a helluva lot more peaceful around here. A good healthy loss -- an end to one's season -- is a good cure for arrogance and invasive trolling.
BTW, is there any chance we could actually get Lance Franklin?:D

I understand the shared history and all..
But in 1997 Port became the 16th Franchise of the AFL...The PAFC of SANFL was Dissolved....Hence AFL ackknowledges 1 premiership, but Collingwood 16.
Has no Junior devlopment ie U17s 19s Res..
Works in a Draft system
Has no say on Jumper (Eddie does)
Has no Home Ground (shares with Crows)
Sends Players to SANFL clubs like the Crows
Structure is Exactly same as Crows...just different Colour. What is the Difference??
ALL AFL clubs are...Its a Franchise system
Toots Hibbert
9 Sep 2007, 02:03
No Geoffa, the PAFC was not dissolved. It moved from the SANFL to the AFL. After being awarded a licence in 1994 it finally moved across in 1997.
This is from the official SANFL website:-
In 1994 the Port Adelaide Football Club was selected for the second AFL Licence by the SANFL and subsequently joined the AFL competition in 1997 after 127 successful years in the SANFL. Their entry into the national arena has assured the South Australian football public of an AFL minor round game being played at Football Park every week.

So that means EVERY player plays in same team when they not in the 1s....How come the other week Mahoney was on Damon White....and Damon White and Ian Perrie were teammates yesterday...
How come Roger Delaney, Rohan Smith and George Fiacci wore the Power guersey on the Jumper unveiling night but never wore it in AFL.
How come these players didnt stop playing in SANFL in 1996 and then Played in AFL in 1997. Surely if its the same club it would happen?? By the "Official Logic" this should of happened...

How did the Power listed Ryan Willits go against his "traditional" club Port Adelaide today??? Must be hard for him not to handball to the black and white guernsey....with all the tradition of the Magpies he has instilled in him at the Allan Scott headquarters...Poor lad.
Face it Port Power took the Magpie heritage and use it as a marketing tool.

OK heres an answer for you:
Port Adelaide entered the AFL on the back of the tradition and success of 1 SANFL club. The Crows entered the AFL on the back of a court decision.
The Crows market themselves as the Team for all South Australians. Port dont.
The Crows wear a heritage guernsey with the insignias of all SANFL teams. Port Adelaide dont.
The bit about Port players playing in the SANFL for various clubs is irrelevant, its merely a part of the interchange agreement with the SANFL.

Most logical answer I have had...
But this agreement does set Port up Technically as a composite team, ie "take players from all SANFL teams on formation and send players to their SANFL club when not playing for Power. Players drafted outside SANFL to go in Mini Draft and go back to the Club they are drafted too"...by definition?? Similar to the Crows??
Your points on the Crows are 100% correct...didnt exist prior to 1991. No history as an entity prior to october 1990. agreed. I dont beleive the Crows should participate in the Pyjama round. Unless we wear the jumper we wore in 1991. Father son rule a joke too...what relevance has Bryce Gibbs got to the Crows NONE.

Technically, any of the non SA players are Port Adelaide players before becoming SANFL players. Mahoney, as you used in an earlier example, had a Port Adelaide Football Club contract before he was aligned to an SANFL team.
We (that inclides the Cows) distribute players to the SANFL, the SANFL does not distribute players to the local AFL teams.
You really are new to all of this arent you?

I think the composite team term came by the fact that the Crows represented the whole SANFL as opposed to Port (who failed in their initial bid) who were representing Port Adelaide. From an SANFL perspective i've never liked the interchange agreement as to me a player is either a Crows player or a Norwood supporter (as an example) and not both. But its the system we have. But i think you're mixing up the interchange agreement with it being relevant to a definition of what a composite club is.
As for father/son, i think the system stinks basically. Gibbs probably has no link with the Crows but if theres going to be a system for Victorian clubs there needs to be some type of equivalent for interstate clubs. From a Port perspective i'd like to see us being able to recruit the sons of Port SANFL players but not sure if this will ever happen.

Why I got the location and team mixed up but I think the 'Go Power' in my location details shows my allegiances.
Are you being naive in saying that the PAMFC is the same PAFC that formed in 1870 or are you just taking the piss???
Your argument about Port having glenelg, North players on it's list meaning it isn't the PAFC is a pathetic argument.
Look at Carlton, they are still Carlton although they have Glenelg, West Adelaide players etc on their list. Every club in the AFL has players from different state league comps ranging from Southport to Claremont.
Clubs cannot breed their own players anymore, everyone comes through a draft.
Obviously Victorian Clubs have debatable reserves teams where they can align players, but the SANFL don't want Port to have an AFL reserves team. Also the costs make it not a viable option.
You are barracking for a new club in the SANFL, if you cannot work that out you are completely ignorant of the great PAFC that is in the AFL.

Its sorted Port GW explained it to me...and without insults...
But you insulted me, I found that funny from someone who cant fill out an online form....

Its an emotive issue mate, Port supporters are passionate about their club. I'd just say be a bit cautious about what you say on the Port board because if its anything deemed detrimental theres likely to be negative response.

Your going to love it next year as all Port Adelaide merchandise has been approved by the AFL to have Established 1870 on it.
This is great news. Floodbuster .. thank you for this little gem. There was some stuff I would have picked up this year if it hadn't had that infuriating "est 1996" crap on it. Should do wonders for the Club's marketing...

DO any of you ever see , maybe in 10 years or longer...Being Called "Adelaide/SA Power"....Current Membership is 34odd k and has dropped, even with on field success...
And would drop even further if the club abandoned its tradition.

Not really. Roo's Farewell Tour has been cancelled and the showdown prelim final is off, but the two are sort of linked ... ;)

Enjoyed watching the clowns sook after losing in the dying seconds to Hawthorn by 3pts... haha Hawthorn have stolen our party trick..:D:D

Unreal, this weekend gets even better.
I just got the Sunday Mail.
:thumbsu:Indeed, here is a little tidbit from Mc "Derrr" mott. He obvisouly wrote it before yesterdays tragedy.
"However, in a season of twists and turns you know the Crows are looming as their next hurdle"
Doesnt answer my question.....
Crows ARE a composite as are the Power...Exact same strucutre...
So you as a member get to vote???
You have a licensed club you can go to any day of the week for a beer?
Your membership is separate to your season ticket??
There is a side in the SANFL named "Adelaide"??
You have a history that goes back to 1870???
You have a number of different guernseys and colours you can legitimately call your own (by wearing in the past) for heritage week??
You get to elect members onto your own board??
You should, as you have the "Exact same strucutre(sp)"

lol it is clear now....as I said thanks for educating me....Jabsy
I admit I was one gloating about a dream final....I think our palyers were too and got complacent..
Hawks look the goods tho, good luck against them...If they beat North will be a good game to watch, could be one of the best of the year,...Very attacking...Hopefully Craigy will watch and take notes...
