Sounds like a good deal.
Me: How much would you pay to see Howard lose his seat to Maxine McKew?
You:$100
Me: Alright I guarantee it. And if I'm wrong I'll give you your $100 back Plus $70
You: Let's make it a thousand.

Mckew has buckleys chance of winning that seat. You should wake up from your Labor induced fantasy world. People talked up Bomber Beazley losing his seat every 3 years and guess what? It never happened, even when he went into election day "behind". In the end the people that make up their mind on election day decide the seat that close, and Mckew can do whatever she likes.. JH has bigger name recognition and he'll beat her.

I dont think it's that cut and dried. Sure, John has a bigger profile than Maxine, but she's not a completely anonymous candidate. Also, with the probability that the government will be turfed out, there will be a by-election in Benelong in the month following the election. Perhaps the people will realise this and not want to have to go to the polls twice.
Mind you, it would have to get out a fair bit from the guessedimated $2 on offer for MM for me to take on the punt.

Mckew does not deserve to win the seat.
She is a typical champagne lefty from the ABC who is grossly out of touch with ordinary Australians.
Howard will hold the seat no worries. The real problem will be the inevitable byelection that occurs when Howard retires before the 2010 election. Who ever is preselected by the Liberal Party to replace Howard will have a tough time holding a seat that now contains many "muslim enclaves" (that always vote for the ALP).
As an aside I think the Labor party's trend toward "celebrity candidates" is actually very damaging for our democratic system. The problem with a celebrity candidate (like McKew) is that she relies on her name recognition to overcome a total policy vacuum.
If the ALP continues with this trend, we will end up with a very superficial American style of democracy.

Its a shame that the ALP can just parachute in these celebrity candidates who are grossly under qualified for the job of a politician. At least the other parties rely on a somewhat merit based and transparent preselection process.

Yep, and the problem is that is discourages talented people who are members of the ALP at a grass roots level.
There were actually several young people in the ALP in NSW who have alot of original policy ideas that wanted a shot at the Bennelong seat (because they know it will eventually become a safe labor seat). The labor party machine (dominated by Unions) then forced Mckew onto the local branch members.
This was a disgusting attack on merit based promotion. But I guess there is no surprise there - the Unions dont like to reward hard work - they reward corruption and "knowing the right people".
The Unions are very elitist these days. They would rather have a Mckew a left wing rich kid from the ABC running for the seat, then a local who actually understands the area.
dont bowl there

Why are you posting racist names on a football website.
There is no place for racism on Bigfooty.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

No, I reviewed the post and decided to delete it.
People are very quick to report my posts around here (and the moderators seem to enjoy giving me cards) so I decided to remove the post.
On a serious note though, my original post was not targetting muslims. I was just stating fact - the fact is that recent redistributions have changed the "make up" of the benelong seat. It is also a fact that poling booths in areas that have a high muslim population always fall to the ALP at an election.

If that is the case then the more Muslim's that enter Australia the better.

Time to eat your words gentlemen.
Interesting parrallel, the last and only prime minister ever to lose his seat was Stanley Bruce in 1929 on the back of unpopular IR reforms. History does indeed repeat.
Hope the Libs get it through their heads that Australians are not going to get shafted at their places of work.

Noone likes a gloat mate. And lets hope History doesn't repeat considering the great depression was made worse by not pushing through those reforms.

oh so now that Labor are in, we are heading for a great depression? What next... the sky falls in on the first day of Parliament and the world dies?
