View Full Version : UFC 76: Knockout - September 22
Main Card
Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine
Mauricio Rua vs. Forrest Griffin
Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch
Thiago Tavares vs. Tyson Griffin
Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Lyoto Machida
Preliminary Card
Matt Wiman vs. Michihiro Omigawa
Diego Saraiva vs. Jeremy Stephens
Justin McCully vs. Christian Wellisch
Jason Lambert vs. Wilson Gouveia was scrapped earlier this week because Gouveia broke his nose, the UFC decided there wasn't enough time to get Lambert a new opponent so there's only eight fights on the show.
I'll predict Liddell and Shogun by KO, Fitch, Griffin and Machida all by decision, and Wiman, Stephens and McCully to win the prelims.

agree with Liddell and Shogun, I think Diego will be crazyily hungry and give Fitch his first UFC loss via some ground and pound. Michada will win and so will Griffin. Not too sure about the prelims, but Matt Wimen is pretty tough so I'll go for him, Saraiva and Wellisch.
Not so excited by this card, but it will be interesting to see Shogun in the cage and the return of Liddell after a loss.
there's something wrong with this ppv, I feel like it's only been put together to get chuck back on track and to develop shogun for future sells. Shogun v Chuck should've been the main fight, with the Vera Sylvia fight in support.

I disagree. I think that Shogun should get to fight a weaker opponent first before going straight to Liddell. One because the "TUF generation" noobs have NFI who shogun is so it would be a good lead in for him to go in there and destroy forrest (which he probably will), letting them have an idea who he is and how good he is. Also then there is a much bigger build up for the Chuck fight. Also if Shogun went in there and beat down on Chuck first up (a possibility), chuck would have 2 straight losses and have far less of a repuatation, which is bad for marketting from the UFC's perspective.
I also think putting Hendo in there directly against the champ was a little premature, becuase most UFC fans don't know who he is. Although the fight was great and close, it would have been better if he had have fought someone lesser, like a Tito before going to Rampage. Give the TUF Gen fans an idea of who he is. Although the "Champion vs Champion" was quite cool from the long time MMA fan's perspective. I just think they didn't build it up enough.

Not too sure about this. I think the Champion vs. Champion idea is enough to sell the fight on it's own and personally I'd prefer to see Fedor immediately step into the octagon against Randy rather than having a warm-up bout first. Of course, there's also the risk that Henderson loses the warm-up fight, ruining everything in the process. Remember we lost out on a Randy/Cro Cop fight this way.
As it turned out, UFC 75 did record ratings on Spike TV in the US.

Thats because it was on FTA not PPV.. it wasn't "Champion vs Champion" that pulled the viewers it was that it was a Free UFC. Granted it was a good event but the average TUF Generation SpikeTV viewer didn't know much about who Henderson was. An average of 4.7million viewers is awesome though.
I would definately like to see Fedor vs Randy but I stand by letting him pound at least a contender (maybe Silvia or Arlovski) before going directly to Randy. :)
At least that way the Spike TV fans get to know who Fedor is and why he is getting a crack at Randy (almost) straight away.

Huge call mate! Rua is allegedly the #01 light heavyweight in the world.

Think he means Tyson Griffin.

Think he means Tyson Griffin.
thank god!
haha :) yep, Tyson Griffin I meant!
But forrest will be absolutely loving to fight Shogun. He's got nothing to lose and will let it all hang out I reckon. It wouldn't suprise me if he god a lucky shot and hurt or even KO'd shogun. :D
how can anyone not like forrest? his technique might be shit but he's tough as f#ck and always makes a good fight. shogun should do the job but i'll be cheering for forrest this time.

Yeah, I'll be going for Forrest! He's just a legend!@
I'll be going for Shogun because otherwise Deej will give me this sh*ts about Pride being crap ;)
j/k - I'd like Forrest to give a whole lot of hurt to Shogun. If he goes out badly we might not see him for a while.
hey you know it's not about pride dude. just the bs pride was best stuff from the fanboys.
I find this a tough one cause i like forrest but shogun is a weapon and it'll be good to see him ripping apart his opponents in the UFC.

Ground game will be a factor, I didn't realise how much of a difernce the cage made to it until I CC's losses. But Shogun is very good on the ground, just look at what he did to randleman.

I was only kidding bud :) It's all good.

And he utterly annihilated rampage. Mind you rampage was underdone I think.
God it was hilarious watching Shogun with that Kneebar at Pride 32! Randleman really wanted to become one-legged :p

All that steriod use must have ****ed with the part of his brain that knows when to tap.
Remember I was always big on Kos to beat Sanchez due to styles? well folks, I think they have made another blunder with him!
I cant really see Sanchez winning this one either...Fitch should be too good in the stand up, and too strong with his wrestling base...I like the Fitch outright play $1.79.
Interestingly, Couture (his picks are flying right now) not only also picked Fitch, but likes Forrest!!! go work that one out!
How the hell can anyone pick Forrest? How does he beat him? This would be a much bigger upset than either of CC's losses if you ask me.
Great show of fights, but the two main event upsets floored me. I'm guessing we'll never see Liddell/Silva now and the Rampage/Shogun rematch is off for the time being.
What happened to Shogun's cardio? Earlier this month I watched him go balls out for 20 minutes against Rogerio Nogueira in the 2005 GP. Rampage has insinuated that he'd beat Wanderlei and Shogun in the UFC because they'd be drug tested, some accused him of sour grapes but it doesn't look as silly now.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the irony of there being no knockouts on a show called "Knockout".

hehhe, good show and lot of decent/good fights there. Not to mention upsets.
Awesome to see forrest beat Shogun! Amazing too, but not so much at the result, but mainly at the fact that I couldn't believe how poor Shogun's cardio was. He was gassed after 5 minutes! I know he has more talent than forrest as a fighter, but forrest truly impressed me - everywhere. He is getting better and better. Randy is the man, he trains forrest and he picked it. I reckon the loss might light a fire under shoguns arse though.
Deej is definately onto something with the drugs though, maybe coming off them has shot his cardio and he hasn't yet recovered. He also just looked too relaxed and nonchalant, giving up is back and showing a lack of respect for forrest early on. After a while his gas just totally ran out.
Real pity that Chuck lost to Jardine. I so wanted Wanderlei/Chuck to happen. For god's sake, just make it happen regardless! I mean where to for Chuck now?
Really, it seems we're are starting into a new 'golden age' of MMA, akin to the 04-05 era in Pride. Stacked divisions, upsets, talent wall to wall, it's awesome! All we need is Fedor and the MMA pool will be complete. IF ONLY the UFC allowed knees on the ground and stomps it would just be THE ULTIMATE!
