The Herald Sun's Mike Sheahan is poised to nominate Hawthorn's Lance (Buddy) Franklin as the leagues best player in his soon to be published top 50 AFL players. Not far away will be another Hawk, Luke Hodge.
Go Hawks, Go Buddy.

I love Buddy but I don't think he is the leagues No 1 player....
I think Sheahan is jumping onto the bandwagon there to try and get some people onside.
Sheahan is still No 1 in the Top 50 tools...

That's nice for the boys to get recognition but i can't stand that fwit sheahan, and i hope the boys take no notice of what he writes and continue to perform the way they have....

IMO Hodge is better then Franklin. Sheahan is a moron though.

he's up there but surely jonathan brown would be number one.
i hope your not taking someone who never laced a pair of boots in his life's comments too seriously though.
Judd is still number one for me.

Buddy doesn't deserve to be number 1 yet, he's too fresh.
Great player, maybe top 10 in the league, but not the best.
However if Sheehan does put him as number one it will be a good thing, Buddy seems to respond quite favourably to hype and expectation.

I've been fearing this. It's Chris bloody Judd all over again. Stand by for the inevitable "Is Buddy the best ever?" questions. The moment any young player comes along with above-average ability the media can't help themselves, and then the footy public follow like sheep.
Already we see claims that Buddy is a greater player than Dermott Brereton, which of course is nonsense. In time he may be, but right now he has a long way to go, and many more things to achieve to claim that mantel.
Jon Brown is the best player going around and no sane thinking football person could edge Buddy ahead of him .. which probably accounts for why Sheahan did.
I love Buddy and have no doubt he's going to be a great player, but let's just take things one step at a time shall we?
