EDIT: If we make the GF that is! :P
Hi all,
Am a bit disappointed that there will only be about 12,500 tickets for 30,000 odd Hawthorn members and got thinking about how the ballot should be run.
I know to get a guaranteed ticket, you have to have one of the higher memberships (and will probably get one next year, the last time I got one was in 2002, when Mr. Schwab said we were a GF chance ... and we all know how that turned out!).
But for us regular members, I reckon the longer you have been a consecutive member, should give you more of a chance in the ballot.
For example, I have been a consecutive member for 8 years, so I would get 8 tickets in the ballot. The total tickets in the ballot would be the sum of all consecutive years for all members. If I got selected, then all my entries would be removed from the ballot.
So I would have 8 out of say 200,000 chance of getting a ticket. A new member would only have a 1 out of 200,000 chance of getting a ticket.
The aim is to give those who support the club in good times and bad a better chance of seeing GF action, rather than someone who only signs up when things are good.
If it were all computerised it would be cinch to setup.
What are your thoughts.

supporting in bad times actually means buying a reserved seat when the team is playing like crap.
If you want to ensure a GF ticket, cough up tight arse, and buy a season seat ticket, even if you dont think they will get there. The club needs the cash.
I think that's a great idea :thumbsu:

Nice Idea, but, 8 in 200,000 chance, need to increase the odds a bit ;)

Well yeah .. but 8/200,000 better than 1/200,000! :P
Next year and for a few years I will get the el-primo membership, but for every other year I can only justify a normal $180 membership.

No. I think you have misread it.
It would mean that you have 46 entries in the ballot.
I would have 8.
A new member would have 1
If we were the only 3 members, and there were 2 tickets available.
You would have 46/55 chance of getting a ticket.
I would have 8/55 chance of getting a ticket.
The other would have 1/55 chance of getting a ticket.
If you get selected first then, all your entries are removed.
Then it becomes
I would have 8/9 chance of getting a ticket.
The other would have 1/9 chance of getting a ticket.
That is exactly the point. Reward those that are members in the good times and bad.
Hope that makes sense.
That's deliberate

90 odd thousand tickets available, get them whichever way you can , it's the way of the world...

You'd have very few children there under that scheme.

Lets face it, there is no fair way to do this. The only fair way is that there is enough tickets for everyone and that just isn't the case.
I have been a member every year that I have lived in Melbourne (10 years) and my Son all 6 of his life. On the idea of using the number of games attendend, should I be penalized that maybe I am moving house or am sick or away?
I understand that some can't afford the higher membership cost too. The main positive of that system is that it was known at the start of the year!
You can't win but this seems the fairest it can be.

Yeah, that could be an issue. Maybe it wouldn't work. Maybe it would create other problems. But I definitely think that there is a better way than the current system.
And this is only as a result of the meagre amount of tickets that are allocated to competing teams in the GF ... if they could just fix that, but we all know that will never happen. Too many deep pocketed head-honcho's who want to sip their chardy all day and couldn't give a stuff about the game.

The current system is also unfair to interstate members like myself where it is an obvious waste of money to have the highest level of membership. Some sort of ballot where your consecutive years of membership is taken into account sounds great. Though you would still have very little chance of of succeeding:thumbsd:. For members like me it is just a matter of buying tickets at a ridiculous cost out of our states newspapers.

One good thing is those good people from hawthorn or north would not be penalised for going to footy park for the prelim. if you are over there where do you queue ofr a ticket ?
If the hawks or roos were lucky enough to win that the people who attend should be guaranteed GF tickets

Got my Social Seating membership for the first time this year. Nice timing methinks!
Was the best decision ever.

What if (like me) you have been a member for 20 years and missed a year 4 years ago? Good idea if you drop the"consecutive"!
I think a better idea would be to reward those that go to the most games. I'm pretty sure because of the barcode on the membership it is recorded when you enter so the club should give first dibs to those who have attended the most matches. Bandwagon supporters should be the last to get a ticket. I'm very pissed off because i've been to every game in Victoria for the past 7 years (yes, when we were shit! PA at the 'G when there was 11,000 people there was particularly memorable). To have my ticket taken if we were to make the GF to those that have 'jumped on' would be bitterly dissapointing. I had a Social club membership a few years back for few years running but never once used it.

Some people buy memberships in the knowledge that they cant go to games because they work weekends or whatever.
Others buy them to save money cause they go every week regardless.
Cant judge one above the other.
