It is pretty well known that Des Headland thinks he can "make it" as a pro-boxer.
What do you think? Could Des cut it in one of the world's most brutal sports?
Danny Green seemed to think so. But I have my doubts.
Whilst Des is clearly a great athlete I think he would struggle in the ring where there is no where to hide. If you go missing in the boxing ring you get knocked out - Des wont be able to pull his finals game "dissapearing act" that we have all come to know.
Having said that, boxing can be very financially rewarding if you have a big profile. Des loves the $$$ so the lure of the big bucks may be too strong.
Interestingly, it has been mooted that Des Headland would probably fight in the same weight range as Anthony Mundine - that would certainly be an interesting show down.
I'd say that Desmond's first fight against someone half decent would end up being just like Apollo Creed's last . .

I think, if Des had his way it would even include a similar circus to what Apollo Creed puts on before the fight too.

Des doesn't have a big profile, he just has a big head.

Yeah, could see Desmond showboating like Creed.
Knew him when he was a kid and he already thought he was the sh@t back then.

Yeah, could see Desmond showboating like Creed.
Knew him when he was a kid and he already though he was the sh@t back then.
The thing is, he couldnt even land a punch on Sickwood (and Sickwood wasnt even fighting back).
He is clearly an unintelligent guy, so he may have a hard head.

It's hard to tell without seeing him in action. I always thought Mundine would be a failure, especially early on when he seemed to be ducking anyone of note and fighting a succession of journeymen. But to his credit he's proved me wrong. Though I guess he has good bloodlines.
One thing's for sure - a Mundine/Headland bout would be a big money earner. There'd be a lot of sports fans who wouldn't normally watch boxing who'd pay to see that fight.

Des has got praise for his boxing from teamates and trainers, but he has never pumped himself as a great boxer as you are suggesting.
Making shit up just to bag a guy shows what a weak, insecure, gutless **** you are.
Face it GJ/Belnakor, the fact that Des has made a career as a professional footballer burns you up so much that you have to revel in the possibility of him failing in something that he has not even tried to pursue.
It's quite pathetic, and all too transparent. Time to let go of your "Des" envy.

The chances of Des Headland becoming a world renowned boxer would be 10,000 to 1. Just because Mundine won a world title there is an assumption that other athletes could do it. The reality is that there are thousands of boxers in this country who have been at it full time for a decade and haven't got to the level of Mundine. "The Man" is a freak, and the fact that his Father was a world class boxer played a huge part in him being able to make that transition.
