Pleasant surprise I got when I got home... note the sarchasm here...

Geelong lost to the Doggies by 12 points after leading the contest at Kardinia Park by 40 midway through the second term, according to what I read from SeinDude on another thread.

To wit, here's what our dear friend had to say...

What a very disappointing result for us today to lose to the Western Buldogs after leading by 40 points in the 2nd term. Like the previous 3 weeks, our young kids are finding it hard to play with the same intensity for a whole quarter at a time which is proving to be very costly!!

Oh, so true-- but to me, this seems to be one of those results that can galvanise a season for good or bad.

I know the young players can be guilty of making the types of mistakes that go hand-in-hand with on-the-job training, but you have to wonder what's going to happen to their collective confidence after a result like this, losing the game in the manner in which they did, and doing so against a team lower than them on the ladder (albeit barely so, going into today's contest) and one which they should be capable of beating.

Is anyone with me on this-- and where do we go from here? Somehow, I sense the season slowly slipping away, and we're not even at the halfway point of the campaign.

Cheers,
William

you_idiot,

As far as I'm concerned, the results are irrelevant for us now. Geelong need to develop their young players and work towards the bigger picture which is Geelong being successful in a couple of years time.

The first step is playing players like Peter Street in the centre bounce. We need to find out who is up to it and who isnt and accept (like Sheedy did with Essendon in 1997) that this is a developing season for our kids and that you take the good with the bad when you play them, knowing that with more experience they will become better footballers.

It will be a challenge, no doubt about that and hopefully all our supporters will get behind the club and stick with the team as the rewards will come in time. :):)

Go Cats!!

I don't think the season is slipping away, the season was over for us at the start, we never stood a chance with that side.

We where on a rebuilding phase at the start of the year and nothing has changed we are still rebuilding so you can't expect much.

Our youngsters (who are all class) will take a year or so before they really find their way, the most disappointing thing is our experienced players are letting the youngsters shoulder most of the work when they should be leading by example.

And so far this season we have lost to the Bombers away, Crows at football park, Lions at the Gabba, Hawks away, Port at football park, and our bogie team Buldogs at home who have beaten us their for the past 5 years, I think any side would struggle against those sides let alone a side like the cats with so many young players and a captain that just can't hit form.
