I went to see this movie today, and was suprised that it was a musical. I thought it was a movie in which music featured prominently. To clarify the difference, Grease, Singin In The Rain, The Sound of Music & The Wizard of Oz are all musicals, wheras The Wedding Singer is a movie in which there is a lot of songs, but it is not a musical. Also, movies that contain one musical number, frequently as a fantasy sequence, are not musicals (Billy Madison is an example).

Anyway, despite not usually watching musicals, I did enjoy this film, as I generally like anything retro, and it was entertaining with a good cast.

Has anyone else seen Hairspray, and what did you think?

I saw it today. I thought it would be really good, but I came out of the cinema terribly disappointed. It only got interesting when Christopher Walken was in his scenes.

I guess it is a fairly fluffy way to teach kids about the segregation of the African-Americans, but I didn't really enjoy it at all. I was constantly looking at my watch hoping for it to end.

Meh, now I know why I hardly go to the movies anymore :p
