I know it's almst impssible to know who is captaincy material as we don't really know how the players carry themselves off the field and which one are real leaders. I remember people used to aways assume Jako was ultimate captaincy material because he was a great player and was always pumping the boys up on the field - however in reality he just wasn't a boke who was captaincy material.

So taking a guess, who do you think?

I think maybe Cox. Glass certainly worthy but I don't like the idea of a ful back or full forward leading a team. Embley a leader, but lacks fitness and form consistency. Stenglein is too dull for mine - too much in the Kane Johnston/Vandeburg category.

A dark horse would be Kerr. I suspect he lacks maturity (I don't even think he's in the leadership group atm), and not really sure he gets the ultimate respect that great leaders do. It may be possible that the captaincy could smarten his off field behaviour up and he could develop into a great leader.

But I think Cox would get it in front of Glass. Embley a chance. Kerr a left field smokey.

Out of these: Cox, Embley, Glass and a few dark horses may be Braun and Stenglien.

Cox Glass or Embers have to be the frontrunners

A fullback like Glass would be a great captain, and it would also strike the fear of God into the forwards, as nothing pisses off a backman more than seeing their hard work let down by profligiate finishing. Either they kick the goals, or they don't go near the huddle at the break.

It would have to be Cox, no doubt in my mind BUT I dont believe the captaincy is up for grabs for a few more years.

*hides*I just don't think they can go back there. He's a great leader and player but there's too many risks and problems with it.

Not unlike Shane Warne - always would have been a great captain - just that the ACB just couldn't go there. You can't have the captain of the country running around the world being a lout and taking diaretics.

Is Sir David an option? Even though he dropped that mark after being excellent all night?

Darren Glass and Matt Priddis played real Captains games on Friday Night.

A captain in todays game simply has to be good with the media. Dean Cox it is

How about a player that's likely to play more than 5 games for us next season?

Glass.

Cox. Well spoken, leads by example, the sort of player we want our youngsters to look up to.

Glass just doesn't have the off-field profile to take the role. Being captain is more than just on-field leadership, he has to be the face of the club off field.

Not sure about Embley. Just doesn't feel right.

Am I the only one who thinks his rep is still paying a price for his acts as a 20 year old when he was a real assbag

Clueless once again.

You actually think Cousins still isnt the leader on the field? . Judd doesnt say a word out there on the field so im not sure how that aspect is all that important. A guy like Cox is media friendly, vocal on the pitch and a very hard worker. Its a pretty easy decision and its the difference between Cox and Glass. Dont make a bloke captain when he doesnt enjoy the media aspect of footy I say

No, even though it did cross my mind its not the reason I don't feel right about Embley.
Its more a case of watching him on field and not feeling like he will be a good leader. But as a supporter i know fork all about his actual leadership.

Stenglein??

My vote would be to Judd ;) or Big Cox if he has the leadership skills. Then Stinger followed by Glass.

Cox or maybe Glass.

Both are first choice players and give their all. It seemed to me they both also stepped up early this season during the Cousins fiasco, particularly Glass.

Dont make a bloke captain when he doesnt enjoy the media aspect of footy I sayActually, you said "all a captain has to be good at is media".

Take 3 exceptiona captains: Hird, Ricciuto, Voss.

All adept with media. Are you saying their presense on the field didn't count and it was all because they were good with the media?

A genuine leader of men is priceless. And a leader of men doesn't necessarily have to be a pump up rah rah man on the field. Cousins' no doubt still has onfield leadership - but that doesn't mean we don't need a strong onfield leader as captain.

Fair enough. I've always wanted to see it though.

Stenglein??
I think the Eagles have too many other more talented players with leadership capability to need to go down that route. You never know, he may be the man down at the Eagles but that doesn't sound right to me.

My gut feeling is Cousins and Judd have been such strong leaders that no one else has been able to become "the man". If Judd leaves then that person needs to be developed. I think there will be better options than Stenglein.

I just can't see how Glass can become the captain on field. He's too far back in defense. Obviously if he was playing in any other position, I would want him as captain. But thats the problem. Midfield captains > all.

I'd like to see Coxy as a soul captain. I hate rotating captaincies or multiple captains! I think Glass would be great but he likes his 'quiet life' too much and I think that could affect him on the field! Coxy would be the man for me!:thumbsu:
