All I seem to have been hearing about in the lead up to the WC v Coll game and in the aftermath of Collingwood's win is all about Collingwood's young squad, how their young players had to stand up to the experienced hardened eagles blah blah...
Interesting stats from the Semi-Final below from Footywire
Average Age
West Coast 24yr 11mth
Collingwood 25yr 3mth
Average Games
West Coast 88.9
Collingwood 92.2

exactly, the commentators on the night were singing the praises of Thomas, Pendlebury, clarke etc and I was thinking how I would choose our young guns above theirs any day of the week

Out of the 4 teams that played on the weekend Collingwood had the oldest team
Bentick's My Man.

You think you guys have it bad in the west. We have to hear it every time Dale Thomas touches the footy. I think Pendlebury is a good young player and Thomas is just a glorified half-forward flanker.
And for their such a young team look at;
Wakelin, Rocca, Burns, Buckley, Prestigiacomo (when playing), Clement etc.

Let's not get too precious..these stats can be inflated or otherwise by a few key players.....
Replace 3 of ours with Kerr, Judd and Cousins and the games played would certainly increase, and McNamara along had an obvious affect on the averages.
In Collingwood's case, yes they have some veterans, but again in the world of averages, Buckley alone gives the entire team of 22 an average of over 10 games per player, Burns, Clement and Wakelin have the same affect.
They had I think 10 players in the side who started the year with less than 50 games. We had 8 if I can count. Stats can usually tell whatever story we want.
Reality is they have some good exciting young players, as do we. If we had Pendelbury, Clarke (who surely will just get better), Travis Cloke, Thomas we'd be crowing about it too.

Fair enough re stats.
In the end though the kids stood up in overtime. Its wasnt the old guys , the young guns shone in overtime.
