View Full Version : The nuts and bolts of a Judd trade

I don't think many supporters are aware of just how this move is going to shaft the side.

My understanding is a side must utilise at least 3 draft picks every year and any picks received in trade are to be utilised.

My thoughts on delistings: Wooden, Chick, Sampi (obvious). Noone else sticks out.

My understanding is all 5 of last years draftees are safe as they are on 2 year minimums.

So who goes? So what of our rookies?

I would love to have McNamara promoted but I just can't see it occurring.

So if we take a combination of draft picks and a player then we are going to have to cut at keast another from the list.

I would prefer at this stage to see:

Carlton get Judd and pick 13.

West Coast get pick 1, 3 and 20.

There is NO WAY in HELL Carlton will give us pick 1!!!!

I am hoping for Fev & pick 3

If Fev comes down then Hansen must be packaged up with a Fringe or a late pick for an A grade 22-24 yo midfielder.

Kenneddy offers us zilch. I'd rather develop M.Brown.

I suppose the ball is in the VIC teams court as he can go in the PSD and WCE get nothing if they play to hard ball

Exactly. We've got to play this smart. I'd be looking at no less than picks 3 & 20, plus a gun player. But, I really don't think Fev would be willing to leave Victoria.

We delisted or are going to delist 3 players to make way for draft picks. So far it is wooden, sampi and most likely chick.

That means for a Judd trade, the most we will take on is one player (unless a fantastic offer involving two players comes along).

Saying that we aren't going to take a draft pick and a average player. Draft picks are still a lottery and will most likely never be as good as Judd. Therefore we will be wanting a star player and a very early pick minimum. IF they star player is a forward, all the better for us.

I doubt that the trade for Judd will be a deal between us and just one club.

We are going to be asking for a lot and play as hard as we can - expect this deal to involve at least three clubs and completely dominate trade week.

Most other deals will hinge on what transpires with the Judd deal.

Not sure if its been said on our board yet, but I dont think Carlton can trade their prioirty pick (ie #1).

I dont want Fevola. Would rather all picks.

All picks would be mean we would be no hope for the cup next year.

Now how does the cup sound with Fev, a 24yo A grade midfielder and pick 3 in there?

They can (Freo traded theirs to Hawthorn for Croad - Hawthorn then used it to get Hodge)

Why wouldn't Carlton trade pick 1 for Judd. They'd be mad not to.

I dont want Fevola. Would rather all picks. Picks can be a huge gamble whereas a proven player has runs on the board.
