With the return of Nick Stevens and the immanent arrival of Chris Judd these guys are all on notice and will be make or break years for all three of them next year. Will all be entering their 4th seasons i think so will be very interesting to see who makes it and who gets the cut.

Don't let the door hit you in the arse. Russell is ok, but Bentick and Blackwell are average at best

If it's true that Carlton have already discussed options with the weagles I'd be pretty sure Bentick's already being put out there to other clubs.

Russell will be alright with improved gametime. Bentick GAWN this year or next. And Blackers will have to really step up if he still wants to be a blue.

If we get Judd.

Send Russell home for Brad Symes from Port.

Trade Bentick and send Blackwell packing.

Hell, do this even if we don't get Judd, because if we don't get Judd
then hopefully Richmond do and we will have Cotchin anyway.

why would westcoast take your soon to be delistings for the best player in the land, what a waste of space on their list. if you told west coast you were going to give them a below par fringe player that would probably sour the deal. judd would go PSD before he went in a trade with b1 and b2

Obviously you can't read properly or you don't understand things very well.

He said trade those 2 players to a club for a pick that we can package up
with other picks and a player to get Judd.

I rkn Bentick had a pretty good end of year. Was getting a lot of possessions, and contested ones at that, whilst still making his usual high amount of tackles. Each team needs players like him, and b/c of his end of season form id now rather drop blackwell than him

Keep: Russel, Bentick
Trade/Delist: Blackwell

While Bentick is slow he has shown the hardness and passion for the jumper we need to have in the side. A very hard worker and while he may never be one with Judd-like speed he is a very handy player under the packs and will be able to this better -in bursts- with the addition of Judd and Stevens.

lol i remember so many posters were bagging Pagan for not playing Blackwell when he was getting 40 + possies for the Ants. Now the consensus is that he is on the way out????????? Bentick may not be an elite talent but he has a real crack and i hope he sticks. Russell i am not convinced about. He showed a bit in 07 but needs to show more in 08

Another point to make in Bentick's favor. Only a year ago Ratten came out and praised Bentick for his work ethic and footballing prowess. He also handed down his famous #7 jersey down to Bentick. Hopefully over the pre-season the boy can add a notch or two to his pace dial or his goal kicking.

lol i remember so many posters were bagging Pagan for not playing Blackwell when he was getting 40 + possiesHe showed he was just a level above VFL and has not duplicated his form in the firsts. A common occurrence among AFL-listed players. Though guys like Carrots can improve Blackwell looks beyond it and it would be best for Carlton to cut-our-losses.

Both Bentick and Blackwell have had some pretty good games i.e. BOG's and/or 30+ possession games.

Can someone just explain to me exactly what Russell has actually done in the last 3 years?

I find it hard to believe that people are more willing to discard Blackers and Bentick more than Russell.

Does Russell carrying a pick #9 tag enhance his value and enable him more game time and more chances at AFL football??

IMO Russell has done SFA in his time at Carlton, Bentick and Blackwell on the other hand have done far more then him.

Russell may have more potential but he is running out of time to fulfill it.

I'd be more inclined to hang onto Russell purely becuase of his size, speed, and the fact that he did show something against Collingwood as a lead up HFF. I also think he deserves another year under Ratts, as Pagan didn't seem to want to give him much of a go.

Benticks lack of leg speed will see him leave the AFL scene either this year or next, and Blackwell will need to step up next year.

id say scrap bentick, he never seems to know what hes doing with the ball. only upside is his defensive pressure (ie leads the club in tackles.)

That's why a guy like Russel will be given more of a go. Purely on potential which in the right environment should go a long way to Russel becoming a great player for the Carlton football club. Will need to add a goal kicking dimension to his game to survive in the cut-throat Carlton midfield by becoming the goal kicking midfielder we need.

Every club needs a scrapper and obviously compared to the likes of Harris and Mitchell he is pretty average. For where we at he is a required player and the grunt and skill under the packs which is required in the modern game. Hopefully the tank gets a bit of an upgrade over the pre-season and the boy will be set, I rate him well above the likes of Blackwell, Saddington and co.

I sense from this comment that you rate Blackwell ahead of Bentick. On what do you base this assessment? Blackwell is certainly no quicker than Bentick, & except for the Brisbane game in 2006, has not demonstrated that he is able to find the footy as often as Bentick does.

I get the feeling that some posters rate Blackwell based on his 40+ possession games in the VFL, instead of taking into account the fact that he has still not put his hand up at AFL level. The fact that he was omitted for the last 2 games of the season, games that Bentick played & picked up 36 & 24 disposals respectively, I think indicates that the club ranks Blackwell behind Bentick & of course Bentick's top 10 finish in the B & F this season, tells us that he was doing what the coaching staff expected of him.

I'm convinced he's got something against Bentick, everytime his name comes up the old chestnut comes out "but his lack of pace hurts him" its almost like a mantra now.

2007 stats

games- 18
average disposals- 10.5

Ross Young averages more disposals than him this proves how shit he is

out of the 3 players:

Russell is average and a bit soft but has pace so next season will decide if he can play or not

Bentik is our tough inside player hell someone has to get the ball out to our runners. He can only kick 40 and is slow so he must be the tough nugget inside!

Blackwell is probably slightly behind the other 2 as he lacks the pace of russel and thetoughness of bentdik but he does have superior foot skills to the other two.
