View Full Version : Anyone worried about Gibbs or Kennedy doing a Judd in a few years?
Judd has just gone and done what every club fears, a star player getting home sick and wants to come home. We(Carlton) have a few high draft picks from interstate, will it ever happen to us?
I also think that this could affect how clubs draft in the future, they may become very wary of drafting interstate players. this woild disadvantage the Victorian clubs more so than interstate clubs.
Thoughts?
anything could happen..................lets hope it doesnt!!

There's always an element of doubt. Gibbsy seems pretty content. Just goes to show that giving someone the captaincy doesn't always guarantee they'll stay!

Then again, they could to a 'Sticks' Kernahan, and turn down offer after offer to return home and become all-time greats at the club.

How can he be a worry after 1 year? He seemed to be enjoying himself just fine this season, and that was in an awful side that won 4 games!
He even stated before he was drafted that he had every intention of playing for whichever side drafted him and not scooting home at the first opportunity.
I'm not saying it's not a possibility, but I've seen 0.00000 that says Gibbs is likely to fly home any time soon.

I wouldn't worry too much about Bryce, he'll be a Blue for life. I think the West Coast drugs scandal was the catalyst for Judd, i'm of the belief it was then when he made his mind up.

Totally agree with you here.
I think that Gibbsy will be fine.
And so will Kennedy

he was a worry, but his dad came out and said he wants Bryce to spend his entire career at Carlton and be a 1 team player.
No. The Weagles endemic drug culture was a huge factor behind Judds decision not to re-sign at Weagleland. :)

Geez, that sounds like living through your children! Maybe Bryce is being held against his will? :p

i don't think there is to much to worry about. Gibbs seems happy and there was a recent interview with Ross Gibbs where he said Carlton had doen everything right and Gibbs was content. Before the draft Gibbs said that he wants to play with one club his whole career. He does not have a huge attachment to the Crows or Port b/c he barracked for North Melbourne a a kid. The only reaosn for him to leave would be family but it seems like he is getting used to being away and he still has alot of contact with his family. i think he would have to be really really homesick for him to leave us.
as for Kennedy i don't know but he just signed a new deal also and he seems quite content. There is always a worry about interstate players returning home but why worry about things you can't control? Ironically our last major defection (Hamill) was a victorian. Given how bright our future looks i can't see to many guys wanting to leave.

Also I think Adelaide to Melbourne is different from Perth to Melbourne. It' not such a long way. Perth is quite out of the way of everything and more isolated, I think Gibbs will be fine

I would say that is about right...
Judd left because the weagles didnt do enough to stamp out the drug culture which as far as I am concerned begins with the head coach.
Bryce loves it at the blues even though we might have done some dodgy stuff this year. He will be a blue for life.
I think you just deal with it when it happens. The Chris Judd decision seems pretty considered on his behalf. West Coast will get compensated adequately just like Port Adelaide where following the departure of Josh Carr.

Its part of the game and happens all the time.
Hawks got dudded on McPharlin
Demons got dudded on Thompson
At least WCE got a premiership out of Judd. I dont think WCE fans have a right to be upset. Its part of the national game.
It looks as though most people think that we are safe with Gibbs and Kennedy. Do you think that we or any other Vic clubs will think twice about drafting kids from interstate in the future?

i think it's best to get kids from your own state. i even think it makes footy better.
