View Full Version : Lucas for the Doggies #5, Yay or nay?

Has been a great player for the mighty Bombers and has been of great service to the club and is still a great player. He is coming closer to the end of his career and would only have 3 or so years left, which brings me to the question, would we let go of him for the Doggies #5 pick and get a gun midfielder for the future with it, or should we keep as he has been been a great player for the club and deserves to remain a 1 club player?

makes sense for the future but I'm not sure if Essendon would be prepared to get rid of a guy who has provided great service the EFC. Would certainly be a very bold move by the new essendon coach. Can also use that pick to possibly pick up Judd or a gun midfielder

We couldn't do that to Scotty, he is one of few in this club that bleed for the red & Black, as someone already said.

Not a chance - forget it. You might as well offer up Lloyd too.
Lucas busts a gut every week, plays both ends and is a game turner.

Seriously guys... the doggies would not give up pick 5 for Lucas.

Eade said he wouldn't give up pick 5 for Fev so there's no chance for Lucas.

well then hes an idiot
hes delusional if he thinks a team is going to give up a 50 goal a year forward to plug there only gap and not get rewarded hansomley for it

the only way the dog will trade pick 5 is for Gumby or Ryder, if this is so you can get Judd. what is getting Judd worth to you?

This would be like trading Santa for a tattslotto ticket. Taking our chances in the draft (at any level) when we know Scotty will continue to bring us gifts would be a huge mistake!

In terms of our long term future... Yay
In terms of our short term future... Nay

The Doggies wouldn't do it unless they thought they were a serious contender for the 2008-2010 Premiership. Hard to see after their performance this year.
I doubt we'd do it because he's been such a great player for the red and black and he deserves to be an Essendon player until the day he retires.

The subject has been brought up quite a few times, and i wanted to ask the question to see where people stood on the idea. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. For the record, if we could trade Lucas as part of a deal to get Judd i'd strongly consider it, afterall he's only the best midfielder in the comp :cool:

Why do people bring this subject up all the time ?
Its ridiculous.

Players are people too. You don't just move them around between clubs like they're avatars on a video game.

Why would Judd want to come to a club that has just traded one of its most loyal servants ?
Wouldn't say much about the club, would it ?

Tell your story walking pal.

If Essendon come to us requesting pick 5 for Lucas we would laugh in their faces. Why would we want a 30 year old that has 2 maybe 3 years left in him?

Pick 5 is a powerful pick- the club that wants Judd will probably need this pick to secure the deal. In that case do you really think we will give it up that easy?

Pick 5 to us may mean landing Fev, Roughhead, Gumby or someone of like. And you know this is true b/c to secure Judd this kind of 3-way trade will need to happen.

forgive me if i'm wrong, but didn't the dogs just delist a very powerful pick 5 in Tim Walsh??

People seem to over estimate just what worth draft picks are, the Dogs window is open you have some older players on the edge of retirement why wouldn't you want a star forward who could win you a flag for a draft number that has no name to it yet??

And believe me when I say this, If you think you'd get a number 2 pick from a superdraft for a number 5 pick in a weak draft 12 months after he was drafted you have no clue my friend.

This is my point.

So why not trade for Pick 5 and send it to West Coast along with your 1st rd pick to secure Judd?

This way you will not be taking a risk in a weak draft and you will secure Judd.

the top 10 in this year's draft will as good as last year's top 10. it's just that the depth of this year's draft isn't as good.

Gibbs < Cotchin
Gumby > Henderson
Hansen < Rance
Berger = Kruezer
Boak = Masten
Thorpe = McEvoy
Selwood > Palmer
Armitage < Ebert

Not the order of this year's draft, just a comparison

This trade is about 5 years too late. The Bombers wouldn't be stupid enough to suggest it and the Bulldogs wouldn't be stupid enough to take it. Anyone suggesting otherwise is delusional.

The way I look at it, if the only way the essendon footy club will get chris judd is by us handing over Gumbleton to the eagles, well- too bad we won't get Judd, I am not prepared to trade away our kids for a topgun. :mad:

Pick 5, 6 and Johnson (lets face it, he's had his day)....

Judd and someone mid caliber...

your full of it. you really think gumbelton is worth pick 5 in this years draft, if gumby was in this years draft he would easily be number one, he was number 2 in the super draft for christ sake..
lucas with agood midfeild and not having to play second fiddle to lloyd could bag near one hundred goals in a season imo... if you think your club has the potential to be a threat on the flag getting lucas would be your best bet..

you wont get anything decent in terms of forwards for a pick 5.. eagles want forwards to remember they would just to a trade with the eagles instead of going through you

Hello, is anybody home. You guys need Lucas because he is proven to kick goals. Oh and ok maybe your argument is that you’re trying to get fev. Yeh ok whatever. Do u think that Carlton are going to get rid of fev for another top 5 draft pick? Why would you take the risk of getting rid of a proven goal kicker for a bloke in the draft that you wouldn’t have seen play much footy. Lucas would give you a chance to be a serious threat of making the top 4. But its not like I’m saying I want to get rid of Lucas. We r the 1s that should be laughing at that deal, not the bulldogs. Lucas is not 4 sale.:mad:

Well, in fairness, no one on the Dogs board has even raised this issue. Lucas was never in our sights, mainly due to his age. Sure great player, sure would fill a gap in our forward line, but we would never give up our pick 5 for him and you'd never give him up for pick 5 (apparently) so thread closed:)
