Matty Maguire is out of contract and seems to be looking to be traded. Some people might shoot me for saying this but IMO we should be after Matty just like we are after Juddy. As much as Judd is Judd, are we going to have to give to much away to get him? Can he really stop our major problem, conceding goals? Matt Maguire is only 23 and can lock down CHB for a number of years to come. This could then release Waite into the forward line if necassary and really help our defensive and team structure.

We need Matty Maguire, Judd would be an awesome addition if possible but we need the 'Goose'!!!

I agree. We have a chance of getting Goose via the PSD for nothing. He is exactly what we need in our backline.

Judd is great, but I don't want to lose picks 1 or 3.

Get over Judd! Let's start looking at Goose.:thumbsu:

The Pies can have Judd! They will lose a few good players for one great player. Not worth it!

Richmond would be all over him in the PSD.

Surely we could price him out of Richmond's reach.

Pick 36 -> Matt Maguire

His leg is f*****. I would be interested but wouldn't give up more than that for him.

Spot on.

We need to trade for him, he is exactly the player we need. Ever since there was speculation he may be offered around I thought he'd be perfect for us.

If we could add Maguire at CHB, to Jamison, Thornton and get more time into Austin and Anderson or defence is shaping up well. Then if we lost Bower to WCE it wouldn't hurt us.

Also if we added Goose, and lost Kennedy - Irish might be freed up to have a crack at CHF with Waite and Fish on flanks.

What would you be prepared to part with for Maguire?

Pick #36

I'd be over the moon with that, but I think you're dreaming! Saints would want much more.

You'd probably have to throw in a marginal player too, but who they'd want and who we'd be willing to give up would be interesting.

It's not often quality, young KP players are available and although he's had a shocking injury, I'm sure he'll be good to go after a solid preseason.

Let's hope we're not too preoccupied with Judd to have a crack at Goose!

There is no way known that the Saints will part with Maguire for pick 36, or pick 20 for that matter.

If we had a mid-first round pick, that would be perfect, but unfortunately we don't. As such, I think it's going to be very hard to get him.

One can only hope that we offer him a LOT of money to walk into the PSD and that it's too much money for Richmond. We can dream.

No way is he overated, Goose would be our only genuine CHB
if we could get him and at the moment we need that more than
anything.

Now that Hudson has quit the crows and they are not keen to help
him with a trade after he has shafted them, do you think that richmond
will be keen on taking him in the PSD as they have no ruckman
therefore leaving the big GOOSE for us?

Just a thought.

I'd definitely like Goose at the Blues. His injury woes are every bit as much of a concern as that other bald, out-of-contract guy we're chasing, though. I don't know where his legs are at, but a hurt Goose is worth nothing to us.

If that checks out, I think we should make a real, fair-price play for him from the Saints. Another quality, courageous tall back there would be great for us.

How does this sound. (IF WE ARE OUT OF THE JUDD RACE)
Pick 3 to Adelaide
Matthew Maguire & Brent Reilly to Carlton
Pick 9 to St kilda

Carlton gain a key defender and a quality midfielder.

how about we just keep all our picks and develop what we've got. goose is rarely on the park and is extremely injury prone.

Surely we could price him out of Richmond's reach.

Is your cap $15million???? Exactly how would you fit both of them in? In a year's time when Murphy, gibbs, kruezer start tearing it up they're all gonna want pretty big increases. Have a think.

What we really need is Richmond to commit to a player in the PSD early like we did with Ackland last year.

Once that is done we can then start to talk business with other out of contract players knowing we have the next "live" pick

as soon as someone jumps on the market we jump all over em' and say they'd be great in our team. forget the hacks! build your own team through the draft and develop kids.. it's the only way we'll get out on top.. except for the judas.. i'd be willin to trade 4 him and only him.

Have a think. We're using only 92% of our cap. With so many young players we can heavily front load the contract and blow most sides out of the water. That way there's room in the cap when the younger guys develop.

there must be something not 100% with maquire if he's being fished around as trade bait??? not sure...we have similar types in thornton, jamison, waite and bower lookes similar to maquire. we do leak goals though, so our defence needs to improve. Hopefully with 2 fit ruckman, we can leave setanta down back where he was so impressive earlier in the year

Not from the side.

Side on Bower casts no shadow.;)

Not sure about this one.
I would like to have seen more of Austin, and it also depends on whether Bower is going to be with us next year............hasn't been re-signed yet, and only 2 weeks from trade week......WA boy......Judd..............anyway.........McGuire will benefit from a full pre-season, but I wouldn't give much for him.

Saints don't have depth in their defence.........if they are shopping him around its either because he is asking for too much money or they think he won't get his pace back, and will struggle next year with the leg.
Either way we should pursue him, but not with any vigour.
