View Full Version : Review your sponsored player 2007

Well, since our season is over it's probably a good time to have a look at our sponsored player (for those of you that still remember who you sponsored) and see how they went in 07.
14. Mark Seaby - Started with a bang in round 1 against Sydney, when he stepped up in the absence of Cox and smashed the Sydney duo of Jolly and Everitt in the Eagles' surprise 1-point win. Never really reached those lofty heights again. Although he continues to be one of the best, if not the best, backup ruckman in the league his other performances when asked to shoulder the #1 ruck duties in Cox's absence were patchy at best, with the lowlight coming when he was smashed by Geelong's ruck combination.
When Cox was in the side Seaby tended not to get a lot of ground time. Occassionally was used as a marking target up forward, and IMO needs more time in the forward line next year. Seaby has demonstrated he is a good contested mark and a fairly reliable kick for goal. It's probably only confidence at this stage that is holding him back from becoming a regular forward. Too often he would take a mark inside 50 and look to pass off rather than have the shot himself. A true key forward needs the confidence to take those shots.
Seabs' work around the ground, although not at Cox's stellar level, was still impressive for a man of his size.
Eagles fans everywhere breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced that Seaby had foregone the chance of making big money at another club and re-signed with West Coast. With quality ruckman in short supply in the AFL, and especially on West Coast's list, his importance to the side should not be underestimated.

A little bit disapointed to say the least esp after last years outstanding GF Waters (like many others though) has a bit of an inconsistent year. Although the toughness side of him hasnt disappeared (thank god), his disposal hasnt been great and has actually resulted in opposition goals at time and then this in turn meant many fans turning against him (of course not me-but shame on them).
There is hope, at times he showed his disposal can be in fact good, just needs to become more consistent and preferbly no injures. I believe next will be his mark and lets hope he doesnt become the next RoJo - would be shameful if fans started abusing him.
Bring on next year where you will see the disposal king himself, Beau Waters:thumbsu: (lol maybe a tad over the top)

Right from the start when he dislocated his shoulder in a pre-season game where if IIRC from all accounts he had been very impressive during the pre-season. Came back via the WAFL first and played his first game in round 12. After 2 games was injured again and didn't play again for us until round 22. Played the last 3 games for the year but failed to reach the standard that he had achieved in 2005/6.
Hopefully his bad run with injuries has now finished and next year he will remain injury free. I'm not sure he is comfortable on the last line of defence as demonstrated by his poor decision in the last minutes of the game against Collingwood. My personal preference which as an armchair critic means SFA would be for him to be played on a HBF or through the midfield as maybe a winger. Where he can use his biggest assets which are his pace and raking left foot disposal to best effect.
All the best for next year Nico

Lynch didn't have the greatest start to the season in terms of goalkicking, but as a player he improved again. His up the ground work was fantastic as usual, and if we can keep improving on his accuarcy, only good things can come :thumbsu:
I've always wanted to know.. how the hell do you sponsor a player :o.
But >.< E-Mac is taken anyway
12. Mitch Morton
Looked like an absolute gun after his first game of the season when he kicked 3 or 4 goals and several people on his site were calling him our new small forward. A couple of weeks later, (as what happens on this site), he was suddenly disliked. His decision making was poor and messed up in the Essendon game when we lost by a point. He then kicked 3 goals in his final game of the season and is appaently looking at being traded

Andrew Embley:
Disappointing year for the Dancin' Man. Played only 13 games this year due to injury and couldn't get out on the park long enough to be an effective contributor.
Had a couple of stand out games against Richmond, Adelaide and the second final but for the most part his year was pretty average.
Given an injury free run the Norm Smith medalist should return to the form we know he's capable of, however getting that injury free run seems easier said then done as he always seems to suffer the injury curse every year.
Bring on 2008 for the Dancin' Man

Don't worry, I won't be picking E-Mac up again. The lofty standards I had set for him were not met.

Obviously didn't play a game with the seniors. Young, and more can be said after next year.

don't forget his marking and his ability to stay standing when the ball is on the ground. The guy has become a gem. Just needs to kick more goals.
