I was just thinking, what would our midfield be like in '08 if we couldn't pick up judd. Who will ruck and who will be our rovers.

I'm guessing our midfield will be:
Ruck: Can't choose between Hille or Laycock.
R: Jason Winderlich or Monfires.
RR: Brent Stanton I reaken is sealed.
C: Mark McVeigh or maby Jay Nash.

C: Jason Winderlich Brent Stanton Leeroy Jetta
RR: Jason Laycock Jobe Watson Brad Ebert
Firstly i dont think Jetta will be running around on the wing all year. More likely to be played at ahlf forward.
Secondly whoever we take with pick 6 (if we still have it) will not be walking into the midfiled straight up. There is more chance that Houli , Hislop , Dempsey and guys like Lonergan and Hocking (if retained) will be playing some footy in the seniors.

R: Jason Laycock - Jason Winderlich - Hislop
With Angus Monfries, Hocking, Jobe Watson all rotating off the bench. But if all goes well and we draft Masten, i think he may be up to the task to play senior footy early on. He's been dominating WAFL footy so i see no reason why he couldn't come in and have a small impact. If this happened, i'd move McVeigh to Half forward with Jetta and play him as an extra midfielder whilst having Masten in the middle instead of McVeigh. Meanwhile IMO, Jobe plays his best football in bursts off the bench later in the game, so if we are going to use him effectively he is going to have to play off the bench.

You guys to realise that there is no such thing as a rover, centerman and ruck rover these days?
And that often, wingman are just about redundant as well.
And that there is no such thing as six midfielders.
The reason our midfield is exploited is because we only have 6-8 players running through there. We need to find another 2-4 players that can run through there as well.
We should come out of a game with at least 10 blokes having played in the midfield at some stage.

Huge difference between WAFL and VFL, let alone AFL.
FYI, VFL pantsed the WAFL by 100+ points this year IIRC not even in the same ballpark.
The midfield would be Hille/Laycock, Stanton, Watson, Lovett, Winderlich for the first 5...the 6th midfielder could be anyone of McVeigh, Nash, Houli, Dempsey, Hislop

Today's Sunday Mail here in Perth had this to say about Masten...
East Fremantle's Chris Masten will sit out rigorous testing at next months AFL draft camp due to osteitis pubis.
Masten,18,was diagnosed with the dreaded groin problem last week after carrying the complaint though the Shark's late-season finals push.
The sublime midfield talent, rated a top-five pick and potential No1 in November's draft,is believed to be WC's preferred on-ball target.
Another superstar junior footballer who might have pushed his young body to it's limits in a quest for an AFL career.....

I think Winderlich should play at half back, providing us pace off half back. Lovett should be half forward along with Monfries. Slattery should play in the back pocket. Which leaves:
C: Mcveigh Watson Dempsey
R: Laycock/Hille Stanton Houli/Hislop
Pevrill can be on the bench!

Winderlich off half back is a not smart IMO. Nash/McPhee and others can play a role liek that. Winderlich will definitely be played in the middle as he runs hardest out of anyone in our team IMO. Lovett off half forward would be very dissapointing as we need him to step up into the midfield like he did in the last few games, as does Monfries. Slattery would surely play as our tagger rather than in the midfield.
I reckon Nash will get plenty of time in the midfield next year.
Laycock Watson Winderlich
Nash Stanton McVeigh
Then on the Flanks
Back Flanks
Mcphee and Dempsey
Forward Flanks
Lovett Davey
Bench
Hille Hislop Monfries Jetta
If we pick up Judd, hislop will play vfl, and watson watson will come to the bench.

Can we fit in davey somewhere? We really need him for his pace. Maybe off the half back line perhaps?

our recruiting managers lasst yr were rly bad imo, cuz we didn't rly need a KPP we had Lucas And Lloyd -.- and we needed a better midfield, i.e WE COULDA GOTTEN SELWOOD
but he was overlooked cuzza his injury, thats just. ARGH.

When Lloyd and Lucas retire in two years time who is going to play forward ? Takes a couple of seasons for the KP fowards to devlop.

pfft two years time.. we WILL need KPP's but not at the time wen we need midfielders a hole lot more. anyways. not like we won't do well without Lucas and Lloyd
we have tonnes of small forwards
like west coast and it works for them..

Well we did draft 5 midfielders last year and you are kidding yourself by saying you dont need tall forwards. West Coast play Lynch and always include Hanson when he is fit. Sellwod is only one midfielder.

small forwards as in forwards that score goals but not ass much as lloyd andstuff.
We do need tall forwards, but not as yet.
Also, Gimme the Midfielders?
Hislop, Houli, (AND)?
Jetta is the forward pressure along with DAVEY another draftee
Reimers = Forward

Key Position forwards take time to develop, so by drafting them now they are ready to take over when Lloyd/Lucas leave.

Pendlebury and Thomas were first played as small forwards before they were introduced into the midfield later on. Jetta was a rover in his junior days. Davey will probably remain a forward but that still leaves 4 midfielders taken in the one draft.

That is best case scenario. As they age injuries become more frequent and performance also drops.

but, if u haven't noticed, Lucas is getting better, and lloyd is varying.

They will be fine for a couple of years but they won't be playing at full capacity until they are 35. What we have done is taken the best key forward prospect in the draft at a time when he can learn from Lloyd/Lucas and then replace them after they retire.

If we are relying on Lloyd and Lucas to kick our goals in 6 years time our side will be shit house.
Gumbleton was the smart choice long term, and the safest bet on the table. Coming off a horrible season we could not afford to take any risks with our pick 2, and I feel Gumbleton will at least be a good player. Selwood certainly looks better now, but give it a few years and for our side Gumbleton will be more important to us than Selwood would have been. Adding to that, it was a top notch draft for key position talents and it almost would have been a waste to not use the chance of picking up an 'A grade prospect tall' when there are normally good mids every season. Essendon picked sensibly with #2.
I think we need to develop more players rotating through in bursts this year, and I'm looking for the bursts to come from young players like Hislop, Nash, Dempsey,Hocking ect. If you look at all the class sides of the competition they have many players rotating through and great depth. We need to continue this development. Hopefully we pick up someone who can strenghten our centre line in the future with our draft pick.

Believe me Gumbletons going nowhere, you would have to have no brain to let him go.
He will come around soon and finally want to stay at the bombers.
