View Full Version : Anyone going for Port?

Obviously a Port win this week would be disastrous for us, but
as Adelaide supporters, I can only assume that a Port GF win
wouldn't sit well with alot of you either
Are there any crows supporters going for Port this weekend?

only one
Why would it be disastrous?
I am tipping Geelong because I think they have been the better side all year. If Port win then good on them I wont lose any sleep or slash wrists . Just make work a bit more unbearable but I can deal with that :o

Yeah I will be, I have a few so called geelong supporters that I work with. I didn't even know they followed the football the last 5 years and this year they have been that arrognant. It hurts to say this but I hope port flog them this week, so in a weeks time on the Tuesday morning I can go to work and rub their noses in it.
Just joking people ;)

I created a win/win situation out of it. On Friday after work I went down to the TAB and put $100 on Port to win the premiership (got $4.25).
If they win I get $425, if they lose it is $100 very well spent!! :D
I don't care who wins.
Bit it will be nice to see Geelong do it.

I'm not from Adelaide originally so I don't have that "good to see a South Aussie team in the GF" thing happening. When Adelaide isn't in the GF, I generally go for the under-dog or interstate team. This year, I think Port will probably go in as the under-dog and of course are the only interstate team, although I think it is a fairly evenly matched final, but I just cannot bring myself to barrack for Port.
A logical mind would support good footy at it's best, no matter who the team, but I guess my heart rules my head where footy is concerned! :o I'll be barracking loud and hard for Geelong, but I won't lose any sleep or be suicidal if Port get up.
I don't have a massive inferiority complex meaning that my happiness is not irationaly linked with the failure of the Port Adelaide Power Football Club. Good luck to them and I hope it's a cracking game:thumbsu:

I hope Port lose and i hope it's with a kick after the siren, something that will gutter them and wipe the Smirk of Chad Cornes's face that he's had on the past couple of weeks! You know the "FIGJAM" Smirk!
Am I the only one that still thinks Port aren't that great, that they got 2nd this year because of luck with injuries and luck with playing crappy teams at the right time and playing good opposition teams with injuries.
They're good, but not Geelong good, I mean they just beat a injury ravaged West Coast at AAMI for christ sake.
Honestly based on form, they are going to get their arses handed to them next week.

I thought they've finished off the season strongly. Those wins against Hawthorn and Geelong were bloody handy that is for sure.
Then they came up against WC who didnt have Kerr or Hansen and Judd and Cousins played basically no part in the first final because of injury. Then they played North who were not even in the same class as them. I know you can only play the hand you are dealt, but talk about a dream run in to the GF !

yeah i agree, they've had a arsey run thats for sure. Its just so even this yr a few injuries and you're at a big disadvantage.
Dont know if the cats can do the right thing for us, its a 50/50 match once you get there imo.
Can't help but think if trent hadnt been injured last yr we'd been a real chance this yr btw.

However I do have a daughter and a nephew who do barrack for them so if the Power do get up I will be mildly happy for them.
But ignoring all the Crow/ Power stuff...I think Geelong are deserving of the premiership as they have played fantastic football and have been by far the best team in the comp.
Geelong by 26pts.

I just cannot bring myself to barrack for Port. Not so much the team itself, after all, most the players are just there to play football. But its their supporters that get me. All the bandwagonner's that dont watch footy until Power get into the finals, then they're experts and the first ones to jump up and down and talk them up and point out how the Crows are'nt there and they are. Not to mention they 'Boo' absolutely everything. Hope the Cats absolutely belt them!!!

Will be watching it with some Port Friends...But I couldnt care less. In 04 I was disapointed as they beat my second team in Brisbane. This year couldnt care less... Dont really like Geelong either.

Yah this is what I think also.
They played the bottom 3 teams TWICE, all wins. They played a dead West Coast team & a Geelong team missing a few stars. They somehow beat the Hawks with that ebert goal.
Thats 9 wins just there.
Finals, they play a 2nd grade West Coast team at AAMI. Prelim, they play a team who has got BELTED by Geelong and who even the Crows smashed.
Port wont make the top 4 next year, thats my red hot tip.

I agree. I reckon Geelong may regret that Hawkins wasn't given more gametime during the year as Nathan is a very average tall forward. I reckon they will go into the game 1 QUALITY KPP short, could prove costly. Geelongs only chance is if it's wet.

Apparently because I'm not a true Adelaide supporter. Haven't you read the thread?
In all seriousness, I'm in on the rivalry as heavily as anyone, but we're effectively in off-season, and, after the amount of times our club has been screwed over by the Victorian administration and ignored or belittled by the dominant Victorian media, I'd like to see the Non-Victorian winning streak continue for as long as possible - even if Port are the team to do it. I'm very much hoping Port will "poach" another flag from "footys real home".

I completely agree.
Did you guys see the thing on the main board about the AFL fining Port $200k if they don't send their players to the Brownlow. ****ing outrageous if it goes through.:thumbsd:
We really need to remember there is a shitload more that unites us then divides us. The administrations and playing groups are on quite good terms, 1990 was along time ago now. The only reason the rivalry for mine is so hyped up is that it's the best way for Graham Cornes to get people to listen to 5AA and for Michaelangelo Rucci to get people to read the Tiser.

I couldnt care less about the non-Victorian winning streak.
If its not a Crows premiership year, then as long as Port dont win it either (or those damm WCEvils lately) then the Vic clubs can raffle it amongst themselves for all I care.
I know you make your own luck but damm if they havent had an armchair ride into the GF. played all the bottom sides twice to get top4, had no impact injuries at all playing against better sides that were injury riddled at the times, and then beat up some of the worst finals teams in recent years. couple that with the whole bandwagon support they get (where are those 43,000 supporters any other week except when they are in a final) and I dont think they deserve to win it.

They're not a Melbourne team, but the Victorian media has well and truly adopted them as the great white Vic hope to take "back" the flag.
And if you think they get treated anywhere near as badly as us, take a look at all their father-son picks.
They don't have the AFL on a leash ala Collingwood, and they might not play all their home games incl. finals at Skilled, but they're still treated a ****load better than we are by our impartial administrators.

I am really surprised anyone would support Port because they are South Australian. Big Bloody Deal. They are our arch enemy, their supporters are arrogant ferals, their coach and captain are wankers and we are competing in the same market for $$ and supporters, why would we want them to be successful?
As was mentioned earlier they have had every ounce of luck to get where they are. Wouldnt it have been nice to have played a crippled WC or the Kangaroos in 05&06?
Basically we blew it, if Port do win it we have no one to blame but ourselves and Neil Craig. They should have been playing us. Once we lost to Hawthorn we gave them a free ride to the GF. Thanks Neil.

Geelong were better than port in 2004 & are 10 times that in '07. I will be barracking for the CATS!
Most of the posts in this thread are crap.
First of all this post above, we smashed Geelong in the first final at home.
Brisbane then beat Geelong at the MCG in the Prelim and we then went onto pants Brisbane by 7 goal in the GF. We had injuries throughout the year with one game having a list of 27 players to pick from and were able 12 out of the last 13 games to win the flag convincingly.
Secondly, you say Geelong are 10 times better than us when we lost only 3 more games for the whole year and beat them on the eve of the finals.
On other posts, the whole theory of the Kangaroos is crap and it was an easy path is about as credible as your dream prelim final.
The Kangaroos smashed the same Hawthorn team that eliminated you from the finals a week prior.
If you go on the basis that West Coast were injury depleted, what excuses has your team got when you have lost two prelims to them last year and year before, quite funny seeing all these unused flights when I flew from Adel to Melb for last years GF.
Several of you clowns also bring up these biased statistics eg, Kangaroos got beaten by 106 points against Geelong and only 87 points by Port. It is so deperate, it is like saying Geelong only beat the Pies by 5 points, the Crows beat the Pies by 20 odd points, we beat Collingwood by 20 odd points so we are nearly 10 goal better than Geelong. When in all reality we beat Geelong 4 weeks ago by 5 points on their home turf!
Looking at some of the desperation on these boards lately from Crows fans, eg PC's thread that Port are in a 6 year era and not rebuilding at all is just showing how speechless you Camry's are at the moment.
Myself, I'll be barracking for a PORT Adelaide WIN! :D

Everyone who has watched any footy this year knows Geelong have been the best team, and Port has had a good run. But what do some of you guys suggest? Wait for Cousins and Judd to get better so we can play WC at their best, or ask the AFL to only play Carlton and Richmond once?

I’m sorry but anyone who is actually supporting Port has no idea. This is a club football, not state football!!! Even those who “don’t care about the result” are insane. I don’t care how much criticism I cop, if you’re a Crows supporter you should NEVER want Port to win, not even a H&A game let alone a Grand Final. :thumbsd:
I am sick of hearing about how we need Port to win to keep the flag away from Victoria for another year. I couldn’t give a stuff about keeping the flag out of Vic; I just want to see Port get hammered. We’ve won 2 flags and with a victory to Port on Saturday they’ll match us.
But here are Crows fans actually WANTING Port, our arch rivals, to win the PREMIERSHIP. I'm not sure how that can possibly sit well with any fans of the Adelaide Football Club. There are actually fans of the AFC who are supporting the club that Michelangelo Rucci, the tool who writes articles every day paying out the club and slandering us whenever he can, supports. If you want to see Tredrea holding the Premiership cup at 4:30 on Saturday then I’m sorry, but you have no idea.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I hope it's the most one sided Grand Final in a very long time!

If Port wins I'll respect their efforts to the hilt, but I'll be barracking mad for the Cats.
I've been a Norwood supporter all my life, and, let's just say I am not to fond of that Alberton mob.
Incidentally, it would be an amazing result for Tom Harley who may well hold the premiership cup aloft as Cats' captain after being traded by Port Power after just 1 match with 'em.

Very well said! :thumbsu:
Well done macca23, for actually bringing common sense to this thread.
Everyone who has watched any footy this year knows Geelong have been the best team, and Port has had a good run. But what do some of you guys suggest? Wait for Cousins and Judd to get better so we can play WC at their best, or ask the AFL to only play Carlton and Richmond once?
Its a club competition nowadays, you support your team and thats it. You must either have some inferiority issues or work with some real port wankers (every team has them) if your barracking against us this week.
See what happens macca when you bend just a little.
You bring a Mr Rucci clone out of the cupboard. ;)
Go Cats, go Vics, go Melbourne, go Kennett, go the lost Grand Prix & go what ever else it takes to deny the Port Power it's 2nd flag. :thumbsu:

Yah this is what I think also.
They played the bottom 3 teams TWICE, all wins. They played a dead West Coast team & a Geelong team missing a few stars. They somehow beat the Hawks with that ebert goal.
Thats 9 wins just there.
Finals, they play a 2nd grade West Coast team at AAMI. Prelim, they play a team who has got BELTED by Geelong and who even the Crows smashed.
Port wont make the top 4 next year, thats my red hot tip.
Rubbish
Port finished second, have won both their finals and are the last team to beat Geelong.
They are an excellent momentum team (when they get it they put score on th board) with an excellent midfield and damaging forwards. Their ruck combination is the best in the AFLand I note that the Pies only lost to Geelong because they had no ruckman.
On form it will be a very very close game and could be a classic grand final
Credit where it is due.
I am barracking for Geelong of course. Chad Cornes and Warren Tredrea lived up to their reputations on Saturday, that alone is enough for me to pray for a Geelong win.
Terrible luck for Michael Wilson though, a champion player who deserved better.:(

check out this I got in an email a few days ago.. pretty funny
Port Adelaide Club Song
We've got no Power at all
Our dicks are so small
Come on, Port Adelaide are wankers
We are the Bogans from Port
We're always in court
It's true Port Adelaide tradition
We'll never stop, stop, stop
Growin our big drug crops
There's history here in the making
Port supporters are sad
No-one knows who's their dad
Paternity tests are ours for the taking
With our drug network so strong
We can't go wrong
We're the Alberton crowd
Port Adelaide proud
And the losers are those
Who've earned the right
To wear the silver - teal
And black and white
And the Port supporters
Oh so small
True Ferals
One and all

I hated port with a passion until i lived in Perth for a while, The west coast supporters have put that hatred into perspective.
Whilst i wont be supporting them or hoping the win, won't be devastated like i was in 04 if they do get up. I only go for 1 team we aren't there so Saturday to me now is just another game.
I like the SA players in the Geelong team more than the ones in the Power
go Geelong :D

Lets put this into perspective.
When the Crows played the Saints in '97 to bring the AFL premeirship to Adelaide (SA) for the first time, a big deal for the state. How many Port fans do you think were going for us? This was just after the whole Grand Prix thing when the Vic V SA thing was strong as it ever was.
I remember my uncle and the rest of my family were wishing us the worst of luck before we left to watch the big one.
Also not that this has anything to do with who I am supporting but in the context of the state thing. If Port win, it will be just like 2004. Crappy little parties and shit emails getting sent around (ive copped the first round already for them jsut making the GF).
Go back to 1998 (I was in Adelaide when they won that time...couldn't get tickets) when they won, where I live there was a street party. People everywhere. SO GOOD, Awesome. One massive party, I remember all the cars going past and just honking all the time. Best time of my life.
If they win this year, it will never ever be anything like that.

but as soon as that sirron went all I could think was "DIE PORT!" lol
this year, I don't mind them as a team as much, they aren't as 'dirty' as previous years, and I hate dirty football.
I am as big as Crows supporters come, but I also want to keep the premiership out of Vicotira! it's been 6 long years for them, may as well make it 8, because crows will win next year making it 8 :D heh heh
plus robert walls wil have to walk rundel mall in the nude, that will be funny. :thumbsu:

Why? Because I don't buy into a 10 year old rivalry when it doesn't benefit my side at present beyond the rival side not getting bragging rights? The SA vs Vic rivalry is VERY alive, and has been around for ****loads longer than Port vs. Crows. You can see the undertones constantly in both the administration and media coverage of our sport, and it's a rivalry that's caused our side a ****LOAD more grief than Port vs. Crows. Essendon Prelim umpiring 1993 and Bryce Gibbs are the two best examples. Call me crazy, but I was a SHITLOAD angrier at both of those than when Port won the cup in '04.
Look, I'm well aware that my view isn't the popular one, and Port and Crows fans alike aren't likely to agree with me. But where have I asked anyone to? We're all going to support different teams for different reasons and I'm happy to accept that. But for people to say I'm, and others with their own reasons, are not "true" supporters for having such views is flat out pathetic and petty. I'm behind my team as fully as anyone. Hell, there's plenty of posters on this board who have seen me in Bay 114 yelling my guts up to the extent that I can barely even talk by half time. How does me not recognising a rivalry in the same way you do negate that in any way? If we were to play Port on Saturday, I'd love us to smash the absolute shit out of them - perhaps even moreso than any other team. We're not. Port are playing Geelong, Adelaide's season is over, and I'm going for Port. I'm not labelling anyone a traitor to the state for going for Geelong, yet I have to put up with you, and several other posters, claiming I have "no idea". What a joke.

You wanting Port to win is pathetic, no amount of reasoning will change that. I was in Melbourne for the Adelaide/Hawthorn game, I was abused after the game and told to go back to SA, I read the papers and saw all the garbage about how the Victorian teams are rising, but I couldn’t give a stuff about SA v Vic this weekend. Next year when the SOO returns there’s the time for state loyalties. As for this, it’s Port v Geelong, our enemies playing off in a Grand Final and yet you want them to win. Sorry but that’s not right, it’s just not.

Since when does the rivalry stop just because our season is over? Not to mention I find it unbelievable that you don't mind if Port draw level with us in terms of AFL premierships.

Of course it does, but for you to say SANFL is relevant, but then discount SA vs Vic as being only relevant on the SoO stage is hypocritical.

When did I say it stopped? If Port were playing Brisbane/West Coast (although a strong rivalry is developing here too)/Sydney/Fremantle I'd love to see them get SMASHED - just like I did in '04. Well if the rivarly is still well and truly rolling why is it that you want our arch rivals to win the premiership? All you've given me is the rubbish about not wanting Victoria to have team that takes out the flag. Are you saying you think SA v VIC rivalry is bigger than Crows v Port? As Drummond said, SOO is next year, but for now Port are our arch rivals, not 10 victorian teams.
I'm just not so afraid of all the Port ****tards bragging that I'm desperate for them to lose.

Why do you have to be an arch rival with port to be a 'true' crows supporter?
the slandering that is going on in the thread is stupid. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it any less valid.
Crows supporters should be supporting each other. This banter is a waste of time and effort.

Of course it does - it would give me the shits. But it's not the determining factor over whom I support.
I'd also like to ask why people would be so upset as to bag other people and question their support of their team over the issue.
