Quick summary. A few minutes before the siren went a couple of NP players were yellow carded. One of their players left his bench and went to the Eltham bench to throw a few and was dragged back to his bench. The last few minutes saw plenty of cheapies being thrown by NP at the Eltham players who did not seem to retaliate. Siren went and a few NP players started laying into some Eltham players.
The problem came when supporters came onto the field and then it erupted into a massive melee with at least 50 people involved pushing and shoving but there were also plenty of punches and kicks being thrown.
In short you could see it was going to happen about 5 minutes from the end and several players absolutely disgraced the Northcote Park football club.
And before any Northcote people think I am an Eltham supporter I was there watching and have no allegiance with either side. I was standing about 10 metres from where the fight started after the siren .

13 reports were made from today's game - all NP Players
# 25 - 7 reports offered 2 auto weeks each = 14 weeks
# 32 - 4 reports offered 2 auto weeks each = 8 weeks
# 43 - 2 reports offered 2 auto weeks each = 4 weeks.
No doubt more N.P players, officials and supporters will come under scrutiny once the video has been viewed.
My suggestion is that they should have their U19s booted out for a season, which I know is harsh on those who had nothing to do with it, But NFL does not need shit like this, no matter what.

I think the main instigators of the blue should be punished severly, but i think kicking the rest of the blokes out is a bit harsh. Where would the u17s coming up from next year play. Dont think the whole club should pay for the actions of 4-5 blokes. A couple of my cousins play for northcote u19s and they werent involved and i dont think its fair if they are punished and called scum for something they had nothing to do.

Firstly KA congrats to EFC on your win.
Now, having seen some footage of what transpired today I can only say that I hope that the new NFL take appropriate action and hand out to NP what ever is required to once and for all to stamp this sh33t out of our comp. Hopefully they will not be as limp wristed and p33s week as the old DVFL were back in 01 when they ignored the equally as bad incidents in that years 19s GF only to allow the trangessing club to play the tune.
Incidetally if it is proved that any EFC people were involved they should also cop thier own wack.

Not often I agree with you stooge, but I do here mate.
No your Cuz wasn't involved and infact I am led to believe he shunned the actions of the ratbag few from his team that were involved. I appluad his courage as he is a good bloke and played nothing but the ball all day aswell.
As for penalising the club, somebody has to take responsibility and if that means the kids that want to play footy have to look somewhere else - so be it.
Hopefully it will rid the scuzz that don't want to play from the NFL.
And No not all NP are that bad, but certainly there is an unruly ferral element who are. They know who they are.

DEFINITELY. THEY MUST MAKE A HUGE STAND ON THIS CRAP THAT HAPPENED TODAY.
I think that the new NFL have already made big improvements on what we as Clubs have accepted in the past. Now it's time to go forward and improve our league.
Couldn't make it to Preston today but yesterday took in the WGFL GF - Sale v Maffra. Great footy, pretty hard but little or no sh33t apart from a relatively minor skirmish in the 18s in the last quarter. Probably had the potential to blow out of control but didn't. Still, was nothing like the crap I witnessed on the video tonight.
KA, I do believe that there may have been a long haired Eltham person involved but by that stage all rules had certainly been thrown out the door.

Not sure who that could have been, but with what happened, it would be inevitable that someone got caught up in it, and no I don't condone.
I did hear, that an off duty copper copped a fair hiding by some of the unruly mob.
I would like to also bring to everyone's attention a comment I made after a fracas in the u19 1st semi final in which I made comment about the lack of police presence at the venue.
Where were the "pigs" today ?? I only spotted 2 and they were hardly going to be of use had the incident got even further out of hand.
The NFL. I believe have done a terriffic job this year, but still scope for larger improvements.

i would just like to say SUCK D**K to NP footy club. you blokes are possibly the most undiciplined side i have ever come across. we were the better side and deserved it so much more than you. and to you and your supporters you call us soft? so it takes a real man to kick blokes in the face whilst they are on the ground and have 10 guys around them beating them up...geez i must be soft as then. id like to finish by saying # 25 nathan smith have fun next year on the sidelines you little rat. I was also at the GF in question as an unbiased spectator.
You did nott have to be Einstein to work out what was happening. NP players sent from the ground, confronting Umpires and then having a go at any body who was withing arms length. Disgaceful exhibition of player sent from ground, trying to assault Eltham bench. NP player 32, came on in last 1/4 and had no intention of going ball, attempted to go the man, tried to run through any one he could see, or catch up with.
Disgraceful effort by a few NP players and their ferral mates, who just attacked anyone that they could see. Unfortunate bloke on ground, copped a fair old kicking by some hero, who had great delight in attacking from the rear, real hero, took off in hurry when others came.
Felt sorry for a alrge number of NP players who took no part in mellee, they too were disgusted by the others actions. NP officials were not impressed by the action of the thugs, and I believe that this matter is far from finished by NP officials.
Overall, good game spoilt by bad sportmanship. Well done to Eltham,

Smith and Anderson are two hacks that cant play the game to save themselves, just absolute knob heads who should be dealt with accordingly. It is dissapointing though to see Markulis getting involved and making an idiot of himself, this kid can actually play and if he had his head screwed on would be an absolute gun. Has all the attributes, but is wasting it, the Northcote Park coaching staff should get into his head to just worry about playing the game, because if he gets his head screwed on he has a bright future.

I say well done, it is about time some one had the courage to stand up and take a stance in regard to this type of behaviour.:thumbsu:

It's not just next year. There is a bylaw that states if a player has been suspended for a total of 16 weeks in their football career, they are then de-registered. meaning they can't play football ever again, they can then reapply to AFL Victoria to try and get re registered (haven't herd of any one being re registered though)

totaly agree. what happened in 2001? Which clubs were involved.
Similar story in 2001 Montmorency v North Heidelberg Grand Final whereby North players realised half way thru the last qtr that they could not win and started going the man and not the ball. They were belting blokes behind play while the Monty boys continued as they had all year, put their head over the ball and kept kicking goals!
One of the North Heid clowns who was not selected in the big one jumped the fence and knocked out a goal umpire during the last qtr (gutsy), so one on Mont's goals was not officially counted as the flags weren't waved at both ends!!! Amazing scenes...
It came to an end when a DV official gave the order to blow the final siren 10 mins early at the 19 min mark of the final qtr because the violence was getting out of control.
The Monty boys from that year were outstanding in the way they conducted themselves during that match and the whole finals series for that matter despite losing the semi final to North Heidelberg.
They celebrated their premiership as anyone would with most players sporting black eyes and cuts to their faces as a result of the weak acts of the North players...
Well done to Eltham and i hope your boys enjoys the taste of premiership success as there is nothing like it, especially after defeating a bunch of morons and low-lifes like Northcote Park of 2007 and North Heidelberg of 2001.

fair enough mate. but in all seriousness our supporters would have never run onto the field if the NP's didnt jump it first. they were there to fight we were there to break it up.
I believe the emotional cup of the day spilt over. It's best we all keep in mind that the majority of NP & Eltham people are good solid people who have the best interests of their Club and League at heart.
After all what was a good solid performance by both teams up until about the last 15 of the game was sullied by that incident. Unfortunately, I believe that game won’t be remembered generally so much as the game Eltham won under the circumstances but that unsavory incident that spoilt what was a good final series. Whats the old saying, it takes two to tango? Funny how one club cops all the blame and the other club walks away with no blame, you cant say Eltham didnt fight back now, but none of there players copped a report, makes you wonder why

Perhaps the term complicit culpability may help answer why (no disrespect).

Final brawl ends in ban for players
Chris Vernuccio
24Oct07
THE Northern Football League reinforced its crackdown on on-field violence when it slapped seven under-19 Northcote Park players with one-year bans for their involvement in last month's Grand Final brawl.
In a year where the newly named NFL sought to clean up its image as a violent and corrupt competition, the under-19 Division 1 Grand Final between Eltham and Northcote Park on September 23 was a throwback to the Diamond Valley Football League days.
NFL general manager Kevin Crompton reassured people that such behaviour would no longer be tolerated.
``When we (new board) came on, without a doubt, probably the number one issue that everybody raised was the perception of football in the northern suburbs,'' he said.
``We felt it was one of our major tasks to change that.
``We wanted to make sure that parents were happy for their kids to play junior football in the northern suburbs and players from other areas of Melbourne would feel that they would want to come and play in the Northern Football League.''
No Eltham players were suspended after the brawl, which started late in the fourth quarter and continued after the final siren.
Eltham Football Club secretary Paul Smith agreed its players were the innocent party in the altercation.
Mr Smith said the brawl ``could possibly'' have tarnished the image of the league.
``It was disappointing that it happened and young players were suspended but I think their behaviour was unacceptable,'' he said. ``But I think the NFL and Northcote Park have handled it quite well.''
Undisclosed penalties were also handed out to two spectators, later revealed to be registered Northcote Park players, for taking part in the brawl.
Northcote Park president Barry Wilson said the club accepted the tribunal's findings.
``We're disappointed with the boys' actions and they're disappointed,'' he said. ``They're having anger management . . . and they're prepared to address (that); their aggression on the day shouldn't have happened.''

Not exactly the footnote the NFL administration would have been seeking to end their first season however the matter has been dealt with and the transgressors punished. One would hope it sends a clear message to all clubs that the "old" DVFL is gone. One also hopes the incident has not unduly damaged the new NFL brand.

I believe the NFL acted quickly and decisively. It’s also good to see NP taking responsibility. However, violence has many faces. Hopefully, the NFL will use the incident as a springboard for other clubs to get real about implementing strategies regarding violence prevention on and off the field.

dv worm u have 2 be joking suck on that eltham who won the grand final idont think it was northcote park i would sooner have gf medeal than a bf medeal ask the boys from eltham
dv worm i dont think ne eltham player wood care if the top 10 were all northcote park players as every eltham player has a medal around their necks saying they are the best team in the comp.... well done to studd who recieved the medal but that still leaves 23 NP players without one... including u worm u spastic excuse for a human being

Yes agree with the above statements, that is a ridiculous comment and one that would only come from a worm. Well done to Studd, but I do believe that the U/19's Northern Football League umpires have no idea. How could blokes such as Sacuzzo(4 votes) , Marlon Mitchell (3 votes), Brendan O'Sullivan(11 votes) be so fare off the mark. Yes O'Sullivan was only 5 votes off, but for a bloke that everyone had tipped to be in the top 3 and most likely take it out to finsih where he did is beyond me? Same as for Sacuzzo and Mitchell, two guns that could only manage 7 votes between them, and as you go through the votes and see blokes like Earnest, Price, Beames, and Davenport above them it is just downgrading to those blokes that they have been judged to not be as good as footballers as the four listed, and no offence to these blokes but you have to be realistic. They may have changed the name of the league, but the umpires have and always will be an utter disgrace.

Credit to the guys who polled well, but your right king gary, NFL umpires are deadshits, an award for the best player chosen by the players or the coaches would mean a lot more to someone than an award the dumbass umpires of the NFL decide on.

Worm suck on the fact that Eltham all have premiership medallions around their neck and that half the Northcote Park side wont start pre-season til 2009. I'm pretty sure no-one at Eltham cares about individual awards when we are winning flags. But well done to Biggsy anyway.

Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.
EFL Director of Umpiring, Kevin Smith is leaving the league after over 11 years of service, having been appointed to a similar role with the Northern Football League, formerly the Diamond Valley Football League.

Having witnessed the Grand Final and seing the way that Brown , Hood and Studd have played in the finals series, no one knows how these blokes played during the season. The votes would have been cast for the best players on the ground at those particular matches. I believe that we are being a bit harsh, in respect to the umpires who umpired the games. Whilst they do not have a very strong panel, the majority of the games that i watched this year, I thought that they done a pretty good job.
By saying this, I think the Eltham boys truly deserve the Grand Final Medals, and from what I have seen, those players from Northcote were good players in there team. These blokes cant be responsible for the actions of a few individuals who apparently get more satisfaction out of intimidation tactics in comparision to competitive and fair play.:thumbsu:

Magnanimous comments Trilogy. With the obvious junior talent at both clubs, hopefully they can lay a foundation for future senior success. Perhaps now we can all move on and focus on 2008.

Whats the name of this post, thats right, Northcte Park 19's= Scum, the whole point is, that how can they be scum when they have a player who takes out the Best and Fairest and aslo have the 3rd Best and Fairest player out of all the other teams in the under 19's
Definition of best and fairest
The player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires (http://www.answers.com/topic/referee) for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season (http://www.answers.com/topic/home-and-away-season).
Well done to the boys who won

and the reason this post called the NP players scum was because wat they did in the finals series not the HOME AND AWAY SEASON.. also those 3 players who finshed high are not scummy as they didnt get invloved in the fight but there was more players than not throwing punches, kicking, pulling hair and god knows wat else which is y u NP people get tarnished as scums... which u r
Irrespective of what happened, it takes 2 to tango, thats the other point people are missing
Also, whats done is done, and NP have copped there wack at the investigation
They have been a very sucsessful club in Under 19's Division 1, and they will continue to be. Just like the seniors of a few years ago with 4 in a row
Every year in the old DVFL and even the new NFL, there is a club who will be in favour with all the others, and one that will not, and it changes as fast as the weather
Lets get back to the footy

if that is the case out of the 41 charges that were made by the NFL y was there only one eltham person charged??? also not one player from eltham was suspended which means they obviously didnt throw punches... so im pretty sure it didnt take 2 to tango... it just took a pack of scums
