Best team player...

Hird was always a motivator and played for the team. This is what the medal should be for IMO

I think we should start this by calling the Big Footy player of the year the James Hird Medal

ANZAC Day is a big day because of our fallen soldiers, not because James Hird happened to play very well on it.

I'd find it a touch distasteful if that was to eventuate.

Im not sure if there is a medal for best player in the finals series but that would be a good medal for James Hird to have his name as he always lifted in the big games (well most games really).

I was also thinking today that if James' two sons both become good players and both are at essendon at the same time, who will get #5? Maybe one can have 6 and the other 4 :p

the better player of the 2 should get it.

Seeing the MOTY is called the Alex Jesulenko Medal and the GOTY is the Phil Manassa Medal, they should call the ARMY award the James Hird Medal for Courage and determintaion:thumbsu:

I agree. If, and I say IF, they were to contemplate renaming it, the Sheedy medal would be more appropriate as he was the driving force behind the day.

The Nathan Buckley Medal?
That would clearly be named the Heath Scotland Medal!

Hey, I second this.

The Nathan Buckley Medal?

Actually, I think they should go the other way with this. Let's start calling all telephone handsets "Buckleys". ;)

I'd be surprised if you're as stupid as you sound, do you know how to spell at all? It must be a piss take.

Anyway, for an AFL based medal, nope, no way. For a purely Essendon based award, perhaps.

They should award the James Hird medal to the player who can get his kids on TV the most :D

How about for most injury prone yet likable superstar and match winner? (At least the likable bit would disqualify Buckley...)

should rename the army award to the tune of hird, epitomises everything that award stands for
