View Full Version : Another Scalp for the Media!

I hope the football media of this country is pleased with themselves! They have blood on their hands now as far as I am concerned.

This year they have insisted in stalking Ben Cousins across the world while seeking treatment for a drug addiction. They have demanded Chad Fletcher show them his personal medical documents to satisfy their belief in a rumour. They have paid people to steal medical records of football players attending a clinic for drug treatment.

Now I am not defending Mainwarings actions here (I think he was an absolute idiot to be taking what he was taking). However the facts are that an ambulance was called for him, and he refused to go with them. I am thinking the only reason for this would be because he didn't want it to get out that he had been taking something he shouldn't.

If he could have relied on his personal medical information staying personal medical information, (ie the media wouldn't get hold of it) do you think he would have sort treatment? I am thinking he would have and that his kids would still have a dad this morning.

I understand your upset but this is not the media's fault. They don't help the situation but they are not responsible for people's actions, especially when dealing with an issue such as this

Ohhh, Piss off.

Did the media make him do it? Seriously, instead of blaming them, why not look a little closer to home. Your ability to deflect, is mind-blowing.

If anything I think its a good thing the media is focusing on the drugs issue as much as it is. Needs to expose the dangers of illicit drugs, because our society is increasingly accepting drugs use.

Only need to look at Bunsen Burners drugs thread on the main board, or the number of threads where people not only defend drug use, but openly brag about being regular users, to realise how acceptable drugs are these days.

I feel very sad that a family has lost its father/husband/son/uncle etc but at the end of the day I didn't know him personally. i have known people personally who have been in this situation and it is aways a senseless loss.

I just wonder though if he would have sort medical help if he thought it would have stayed private and not been splashed all over the newspapers. He was offered help, but for some reason refused it.

I am not for one minute saying that Mainwaring was not utterly stupid and irresponsible, and should not have been in that situation in the first place. Its just with all that has gone on this year in the media, it makes you wonder why a different choice wasn't made.

That's only the case because alcohol is more readily accessible.

I May be wrong, but do you know something we don't? As far as I knew, there has been no announcement about any "drug" related causes to his death. If there has been then I have missed it, and I apologise, but perhaps the media had influenced YOUR views on this matter, as you are quick to jump to conclusions.

RIP Chris, super footballer.

Don't blame the media.

Exactly. Did the media force him to take the drugs he has allegedly taken.

You cant blame anyone for drug taking but the individual who takes them

****ing stupid thread by a ****ing idiot.
Bite me.

Alright, I admit it was a long bow to draw, but the way the media has carried on this year when it comes to the drugs issue has pissed me off.

Mainwaring being in the media just means he knew first hand how these things get out. There is a reason why he didn't accept help when it was offered to him, why isn't that he didn't want it getting out that he got himself into trouble taking drugs a plausible one?

I don't care about your attack on media, they are a bunch of tossers.

I do however think your assumptions about Mainwaring and the circumstances surrounding his death are utterly speculative and completely disrespectful at this stage.

I'm sure it will all come out eventually. When I wrote the thread I was not aware that all the details had not been presented in the media as I hadn't listened to any media releases about it.

Well ok then, lay down all the details for us please, I've been hoping to find out, a bit of peace of mind I guess.

What was he taking?, What was his frame of mind?, How has his private life been going recently?

Chris Mainwaring worked in the media.

Correct.

So please Eagles fans, let's not make a tough day tougher, by adding to the speculation and pointing fingers.

How can we draw a bow at the media at all. I have read several reports since I made the now poor decision to log on half an hour ago, and have read 'mainstream' media reports suggesting a heart attack. I have logged onto BF to find drug allegations. Should we in particular really be pointing the finger at the media here?

I hope the football media of this country is pleased with themselves! They have blood on their hands now as far as I am concerned. I sincerely hope that your view is minority in Perth and that the West Coast Football Club pulls its head out of its arse and actually does something about a culture that is destroying your club.
