I think it would be a nice touch to name a wing at Subiaco after Mainy.
Thoughts?
Again depends on the outcome of how he died.. doubt the dockers will like it anyway :(

I doubt they'd make a fuss.
Not sure how the club will handle all this too be honest. Depends how it plays out from here.

I would wait until the dust settles and naming a wing is a bit over the top. He was a great player but I am sure there would be others who would deserve the accolade just as much ie Polly Farmer etc
Its a nice thought though

Wagin FC named their Wing 'Matera Wing'.
should name one wing mainy and the other wing bell that way both sides are satisfied this will be with the new stadium by the way not subiaco

Good idea. Build a 65,000 seat stadium in Fremantle for the dockers, western force, international cricket and international soccer and let the eagles, the glory and the warriors share Subiaco Oval. :thumbsu:

Nah you got it wrong, name one wing after Mainy and the other after Macca. They both had similar kicking efficiency, although I think Macca had a better left foot.
Seriously it is a great thought but I think there are champions ahead of Mainy for this type of honour. eg. Polly, Cable, Glendenning, Moss etc. The other problem is that Subiaco is not the only "occupant" of the oval.
I can see some tribute on the footy architecture in the Geraldton region for Mainy.

No matter how he died, nothing will change the fact was a champion during football and after football. He always had time for anyone and everyone.
I cant speak for the dockers but as a supporter of freo id be happy for a wing/stand to be named after him.
I dont know much about west coast but freo have the doig medal for our best and fairest, what is west coasts? Maybe something could be named after mainy.

I agree with this. Naming a wing I don't think is right. I loved Mainy as much as any eagles supporter and thought he was a top bloke, but I think it is a little to far to name a wing after him. He was a great player, but where do you draw the line, we have had plenty of great players. I would prefer to see it as Worsfold Stand or something, as a captain, coach and hopefully when he's coached for 28 years and broken Sheedys record it happens.

Mainy loved the Eagles, wore his heart on the sleeve for his club and bled blue and gold. That's how I remember Mainy, not for the ALLEGED circumstances on how he died.
