I attended the Charles Sutton Medal Last night and was quite impressed with how Rocket, Grant, Smorgo and Charles himself managed to assure me that we will be back in 2008.
Rocket and Smorgo imparticular focused on keeping the members and supporters assured that 2008 will be far from what we witnessed in 2007.
They vied a promise that a major review of everythign invloved in the WBFC has been assessed and is heading in a positive direction. After this review, it has been promised that a major turn for the better will be waiting for us in 2008.
Smorgo sounded incredibly passionate about getting our club where we deserve to be, in the eight at the very least.
He said that a leaf has been taken from the Geelong book and the club is doing everything possible over the pre season to get the dogs playing great footy.
The most intersting thing that Granty said, was that he rated Bulldogs simply as a 'pretty good side'. He thinks that what the Club stands for, in terms of stil being around makes him proud to be a Dog. But on the field, he feels slightly differed. He says for too long in his career, The Dogs were a good side and hes had enough of it because we need to be a great side. He said that any Whitten Oval redevlopment, and any profit that can be produced will go no where towards earning respect in teh football world for being a GREAT side. He said the only way to do that, was to be a GREAT footy side ON the field, winning football games and winning a flag.
At this point in time, Im positive that the Club is in good hands for 2008 and beyond. I was inspired last night, and any player that wasnt doesnt deserve to be playing at our club. The players should have listened closely, taken it to heart and now have a huge pre season for 5 montsh before they can put it onto the park.

It also highlights how important it is that we keep Grant around at the club, because it's more people with this sort of attitude that we need right now....

I had tickets for last night and didn't go. To be honest I've heard it all before. How we will be better next year etc. For once I'd like for what they say to come true.

We are hurting aren't we.:(

i agree - have all the reviews you like smorgo, but at the end of the day talk is cheap.
like the boy who cried wolf, there's only so many times you can hear the same thing.

I really couldn't care less what is said at a B&F. What matters is the performance on the field.
Actually, I would be much more assured if I heard nothing at all from the club and just saw hard work and commitment.
Words are just words at the end of the day.

Geez cheer up people, do you all wake up every morning feeling like crap cause we didn't win the premiership this year, or are you bitter your not geelong supporters?
There are alot of good people at this club who are working hard to make your dreams a reality so don't be so hard on them.

At the end of the day it is the players who have to make the commitment and do everything possible to achieve their best and work together towards the common goal. Everyone else at the club has done all they can to strengthen our position and turn us around and make us successful.
Just because we have had a review process put in place doesn't mean that we will automatically have a season like Geelong, I could catalogue the times that players from the club have come out and said 'blah blah effort not up to scratch, blah blah not acceptable, blah blah next week blah blah'. only for next week/year to roll around and nothing has changed.
I think we need grant around the club to strengthen us up a bit. He is struggling of age.

The only thing we should take from what Geelong did last year is sit everyone down in the same room and be totally honest with each other, tell a few home truths!Because what they served up the last seven weeks was a ****ING disgrace!!!!

Great to hear Doggies05 and thanks for the update.
There is no doubt we need to gain the respect of the football world. How do we do that you ask?
Firstly, we need to be aggressive during trade week, not sit on the fence and wait like we have done in the past. There are only a small number of "untouchables" at each club including here at the Dogs so we may have to be willing to give up someone to get a KPP. Find those touchable KPP at each club and be agressive.
Secondly, we need to produce big bodied players and the only way to achieve this is to get the right person involved to manage this. Another key is to have a good solid pre-season which will breed confidence in the playing group and provide a much higher level of fitness than we had this year, this is the key IMO. Mix this with sound injury management throughout the season and at least we have given ourselves the best possible opportunity to achieve.
Finally, we need some bloody LUCK. As any side has shown who have won the premiership or who make the top four, you need to be bloody lucky injury wise in particular to your key players.

Perhaps Grant could replace Bond as assistant coach??

Agree.
Sit them down and get them to be open and honest with each other.
this is the only way to get them to snap out of the daydream world that them seem to exist in. It will mean more coming from a team mate than a coach.

Couldnt agree with this post more. I wont to see at least three players who played over 13 games this season traded. Chris Bond leaving is a much needed change ; during his tenure we made finals once, the previous five years we made finals three times ; and the five years before that three times. He has been effectively demoted.
These are just words.Heard it all before.

Have reviews but every football mind can see our side is a bunch of softies at the moment, thats what they have to turn around.
Is the club goin to annouce what the results of their review was? Or is it a secret?
